Ive lived within a 5 minute drive of maine seafood my entire life, and Im going to be honest. The place is not the end all of seafood places, its not fancy, its not kicked up, and its not trendy. That being said, it is a good, old-fashioned, new England seafood house that serves up huge portions of super fresh fish very simply prepared. Youre not going to find lobster thermador, or scallops over risotto here, so dont expect it. What you will get is the classics like stuffed sole, 4 different types of fish and chips, grilled swordfish, bowls of steamers, fresh steamed maine lobster and local oysters. The food is good, its simple, its new England. Now, be prepared to shell out a bit for dinner here, their prices are seafood restaurant prices. That being said, the portions are worth it, and youll be hardpressed to finish your plate after the bread, salad, and three side dishes they give you. What stops me from giving the 5th star, and what Ill warn you to watch out for, is the hit or miss service. And its not really their fault, but still, youd figure theyd upstaff a bit on busy days. This place gets A LOT of big groups, and a table of two tends to get lost a bit in the confusion. So, beware if you venture here for dinner in the latter portion of the week.

I never leave low reviews lightly, but was very dissapointed with this establishment. My friend and I arrived to have a light meal, and decided to share a seafood platter. Assumedly, a platter is made to be shared, but despite this, only one serving plate was provided for the two of us. When the food arrived, the fish and shrimp we had were very plain at best. Knowing the reputation of Maine for seafood, and the fact that this is a restaurant specializing in seafood, we were both expecting above average fish. Instead, we finished asking ourselves why we hadnt gone to Cracker Barrel for fish down the road, where the meal would have been of higher quality, whilst being close to half the price. When the bill came, we were shocked to find a $4.00 food sharing cost! Apparently this charge was listed on the menu somewhere, but came as a surprise to both of us. When I inquired about this charge with the waitress, she told us that it was for sharing our platter in a matter of fact way so as to infer that such a charge was obvious. To the contrary, not only have I never seen such a charge before, Ive never heard of a platter that wasnt made for sharing anyway! Needless to say, will not be going back for this overpriced, substandard food...

I ate there last night with my fiancé at the recommendation of my sister, who lives locally. We were very impressed with the food, particularly the Coconut Shrimp appetizer. I had lobster, he had fried haddock and sea scallops; both meals were cooked to perfection. Our server was good, but seemed distracted. My only complaint is that we were seated at a small corner booth, much too close to a very loud, boisterous group whose foul language and questionable dinner-time conversation would have offended most people. I sat on a shared bench with half of this loud dinner party, with only enough space between me and their closest diner for one other person to have sat between us. I would have rather been told we had to wait and to have been seated in our own space than to have been stuck with this crowd. I think our experience would have been even better had we been seated in an area further from this group and I think this is something that should be considered by the host when seating customers. Despite this, wed definitely go back. Thanks for a great meal!

We knew we were going to be in town for the night since my husband was going to a concert in Hartford. We initially were going to go to the Chowder Pot right in Hartford, but were staying at a place in Windsor Locks, so I found the Maine Fish Market on a google search. We read the reviews, checked out the menu and went. We were NOT disappointed. The service was top notch - we had a very attentive and friendly server. The steamers were perfect - not overcooked, my baked stuffed shrimp was cooked to perfection and the crabmeat ritz-cracker stuffing was delicious. My husband and kids ordered fried clams and chicken strips and those were also cooked perfectly. The clam chowder was the thickest I have ever had outside of Boston. The food is on the pricier side (if you are feeding a family), but the portions are very generous and the soup can be included with a dinner. We will definitely come back!!!!

Ate here twice before without incident. While the food was still tasty, the service was horrible. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated (understandable), we waited another 20 minutes to see someone to take our order. The huge issue for us was we were still waiting for soup and/or salads 40 minutes after we placed our order. When I spoke with a manager, I was made to feel this poor service was my fault. Unacceptable! We did get a different waitress and she was fantastic. I tipped her 20% because it was not her fault that the previous waitress played Houdini and the management was not concerned. In my opinion, Maine Fish Market is one of those places that will attempt to live off their past successes and not worry about a continual path to excellence. Well, they won’t need to look for that path for my party, we will NEVER return.

I thought it was going to be good because the place always seems to be packed. Its packed with old people who seem to have lost there taste buds because the food there sucks. I got fried calimari for an app and it was a small portion for $12. It was chewy and had no flavor. The bread they give you is frozen. I got fried clam strips for dinner. They werent crispy and were most likely frozen. The wife got some fried fish. It was saturated in oil. The only thing that was good was the cole slaw. The seating sucks in there but it is fine if you want to sit right next to a party of 6 people that wont shut up. We didnt read reviews before we went. We should have. This is the first review Ive ever written and Im writing it on the toilet because not 15 minutes later I feel like crap. You have been warned.

Excellent food, service was terrible. Our waitress couldnt be bothered to take our order due to serving a large group, several others took the order and delivered the meal, apologising for our waitresses lack of presence. (All after waiting 15+ minutes AFTER being seated. That was after the 45 minute wait at the door, which we knew of and were anticipating.) Silverware was forgotten, some sides were forgotten entirely. I know that this place is always very busy but our nights out are limited and that was entirely inexcusable. We will not return even though the food was incredible. I would rather spend my money at places Ive been to and have had better experiences. I know Im letting one bad night at a certain place ruin it for me, but, the price we paid for this night wont be paid again.

The place has nice enough service. I got a take out for their super surf n turf thing with a medium rare steak and their lazyman lobster. The lazyman lobster is basically lobster taken out of the shell so you dont have to crack it. The lobster tastes good but the portion was quite small for the price. I ordered the steak medium rare but it was so rare I hardly ate more than half. The clam chowder that was part of the order tasted good but I doubt there was any clams in the clam chowder. I also had to wait for 30 minutes which Im ok with but my food was apparently sitting all packed up for I dont know how long and no one bothered to get it for me. I had to ask about it for them to go get it.
