If only all towns had a store like BookShop Santa Cruz! Not only do they have an excellent selection, friendly and helpful staff, but they are clean and, well, well-lit (I know, I know, cliched--and the name of another bookstore--but its true!) Though they are not the behemoth that the chain shop down the street is, they have character, ties to the community, *and* they have, for many many years, provided something that is always in short supply--clean and accessible public restrooms! (Well, not officially public as in city property, but its an added service that they have generously offered for ages). They also have a selection of used books, great recommendations, kids books, travel guides, an array of magazines, a club discount card (get your average purchase price free after a certain number of purchases), and cool BSC t-shirts. If youre in SC please make this your first stop for books--keep independent bookstores alive!

I love Bookshop Santa Cruz. Not only because it is one of the last book stores standing... but because they have a broad array of books, the staff is so helpful and nice, and they will order books for you in a heartbeat if they dont have them. I was in there last week and they didnt have a book that I wanted. The kind gentleman at the info desk said that he could order it for me no problem and call me when it came in. They literally called me 3 days later to let me know that the book was in. It is so much more gratifying for some reason to go to an actual book store than just ordering it on line. The only thing this place is missing is a little café to sit in and read. Anyway, definitely gets my thumbs up!

I love the layout of this little bookstore in downtown Santa Cruz. It seems like they have more content geared toward creatives, considering the size of the store. I really enjoyed the "Process" section, which was right by the "Graffiti" photo books and across from crafting/sewing. I had a bit of a hard time navigating Nonfiction. I generally gravitate toward self development, but instead the stacks were organized by author. Have to say, it actually caused me to do more browsing than usual. I learned a thing or two about my energy personality type ;) lol If youre a bookworm like me, dont miss the opportunity to poke your head in here. Its totally worth it!

What a great bookstore! Everything you might need you can find here. The staff is super helpful, and the quality of books (both new and used) is fantastic. I was having trouble finding a best seller and a more obscure book, but the staff helped me find both in about 5 seconds. The community around the book store and events there are great, too. Sometimes, the store has special events where you can win more books and other reading related prizes. I am always happy to return.

My favorite bookstore of all time. Theyre selection is rather large, both new and used, they can get most in print books for you on a matter of days and their periodicals rival what Borders had when they existed. Theyve expanded their manga/comic section over the years. Also, their buy back prices are fair and the prices they resell the books they buy from you is never much higher than what they bought the book for.

They never seem to have the books I want. Jazz book selection is particularly poor -- Ive rarely seen more than one, they never have the new ones. When I ask, they offer to order it. I reply that I can do that too, and it will be cheaper. Id buy it if they had it. I regularly browse their used section, and occasionally find something, but its always overpriced.

This is the very first really bookshop Ive met so far. Located in a relaxing street, this bookshop contains a variety kinds of books. The moment you entered the store, they have the best sellers, awards winner books, and some recommendations. In each column, they also highlight some good books. I love being there if I live somewhere nearby.

This is a fantastic bookstore! Its been more than a bookstore for over four decades. Its a community center owned by a family that truly loves Santa Cruz and gives back in many ways. As bookstores come and go, and are now struggling all over the country, its no coincidence that Bookshop Santa Cruz remains an integral part of this city.

I am a 35 year friend of Bookshop. The staff are well trained to help customers, the selection of books is top notch, and the atmosphere invites you to sit and dive into a book. I especially like that I can sell and buy used books here. The stores author series and other special events keep all us book lovers coming back to learn more.

This place has tons of wonderful community events! That said, I almost never buy books here because theyre significantly more expensive than Logos down the street. They also purchase books back from you (sometimes, call for availability) and they even have a self-publishing station in the back (short hours, call for availability).

Awesome book store with very knowledgeable staff. They are helpful and friendly just like the Santa Cruz community. Good place to also trade in used books and also get some great books for a fair price. This place is centrally located downtown and has coffee shops and eatery just around the corner.

What a great book store. They have tons of space and tons of books. My favorite part was how they had staff recommendations all around the store to encourage people to try different books. They also had sections set aside for certain age groups and interests. Overall, a great book store.

I never get to buy the weekend Financial Times, if I dont call them 9pm on the dot to reserve a copy. I really dont understand why there cant be more copies. Good, friendly sales people. More like a community hub than a professionally run, well-stocked book store. No specialisation .

A truly great bookstore. The presentation is perfect; I walk in and think, "this is how a bookstore should be." The staff is very knowledgeable and they often have great book signings and sales. They also have a good selection of used books. A great literary landmark in downtown!

Great bookstore. This place is huge! They have sections for staff picks and little mini-reviews on note cards below the shelves. Staff is helpful. It can get very busy. Last time I went, they had a free gift wrapping station for things that you purchased. Super convenient.

Great local bookstore! Theres a lot of books to choose from, including most new releases, and a very nice large collection of young adult fiction. The people who work there are very nice and helpful and good at recommending books. Best bookstore ever!

A huge selection of books. Used, new, sale books, and even books from local authors in the Santa Cruz area. The staff are engaging and really seem to enjoy working at the bookshop.Would come here again to purchase more books when I am in the area.
