I called to see if they had a book in stock n the price. I wanted 2 b able to read it over the weekend to help me solve some OS issues. I was put on hold 4 quite a while n about to give up when a man came on the line. He checked the stores stock n told me there were 2 titles with similar names. I told him which one I needed. He checked 2 make sure it was in stock. I told him I would come over right way n buy it, but told him I wanted to check the price of the book be4 he put it on hold 4 me. He quoted $23 as the price of the book. I told him I would come to the store to buy it right away. I was put on hold u til he retrieved it n put it on hold 4 me. I verified the location of that store and said I would b right down. He was very courteous and even told me the location of the registers that my book was being held. Unfortunately I did not take note of his name. I arrived at the store and when it was my turn to get help, requested the book being held n began to check out. I was shocked to be told the book was $34 not $23. I said that was not the price quoted on the phone and the price quoted was $23 and that it was in stock was why I drove all the way to their store immediately. The clerk said the price $23 was only 4 home orders to b sent 2 my home from their warehouse and shipping was xtra. I explained to the clerk this was unacceptable because that wasnt what I was told, the error was not on my part, the difference is too great and it was an unfair situation, I could buy the book online for approximately the price originally quoted to me over the phone so I thought the $23 quoted was not unusual. I said I tried to b very specific n clear with my questions, asking price b4 he put the book on hold, checked the stores location, etc. Eventually, the manager was called and after full explanation why I was standing my ground, to Barnes & Nobles credit, the manager finally agreed to the $23 price quoted to me over the phone. They finally did the fair thing. The manager told me they would never do that again 4 me as if I had created the problem. Too bad for that attitude. Oh, n by the way, they also advertised online when I was looking for the location of their store and phone # to call n check on the book, that there was a 25% one time discount per customer for 1 item, a discount I qualified 4 and which did not specify needed 2 b an online purchase. That would have brought the $34 purchase down to $25.50 which I would have happily accepted. U b the judge, but Im just saying...

I think I like this place. Pretty much have to go there when Mom is in town. Have pretty fond memories of visiting in my college years. Hasnt changed much since. The staff seems nice, not that I interact with anyone other than the cashiers. Does it matter to even talk about the inventory or selection? With online shopping, pretty much the only reason to shop at a big name bookstore is for last-minute gifts and non-book-related items. Bought a nifty notebook for self, chocolate for someone for Christmas, resisted the over-priced sugar delivery mechanism known as a "pastry," and had the person in line before me spoiling the Star Wars movie I was going to see the very next day. As I write this, I realize this is where my people are, so this is why I visit. And earplugs have now found another meaningful purpose for me in a place for reading.

I usually bring my 4 year old daughter to this place as a way for her to buy some toys from time to time. She squeals with delight every time she enters the store and makes a beeline for the kids/toys section. For adults, has a reasonable selection of books/magazines. Although some aisles (like physics/maths) do not appear to have changed significantly in the past couple years.I generally buy a book if its within a reasonable differential with Amazon (sorry , Barnes and noble) :) Store also has a reasonable seating area for people, although the electrical outlets appear to have been generally hidden/covered-up, as the philosophy seems to not engage long term store visitors. Good for bring kids along for special reading days etc.

One of the last brick and mortar book stores in the greater Silicon Valley. The store is laid out well and signs make locating book by topic easy. They also have a wide selection of magazines and graphic comic books. The childrens section is appealing and the coffee bar offers a wide selection of hot and cold drinks. As a bonus, the pastries are a couple of notches above what I expected at a bookstore. Easy access as this B&N is located on the corner of Stevens Creek Blvd and San Tomas Expressway. Most of the parking is behind the store and it can be a bit of a walk (not that I mind) if you arrive on the weekend during the middle of the day.

Barnes and Nobles cashier stated that the membership is for one year and that I had to authorize renewal for the following year. Do not believe it and keep an eye out for your credit card bill with "B&N". Barnes and Nobles has auto renew membership and credit card charged annual fee of near $30 without any notification or my authorization. When I requested to stop the membership and prorate the membership fee for the rest of the year, they refused. In addition, the online access to my account didnt even work and they were unable to fix it. I have activated a stop payment of my credit card to Barnes and Nobles.

They must have every book on the planet. Probably cheaper to shop on Amazon. But going there, you can get it now!! Plus you can physically hold the product before you buy it. & its a neat atmosphere. They have a Starbucks there with tables & chairs. Little places to sit all over the store. People relaxing & enjoying their reading. Very soothing, relaxing & peaceful atmosphere. The employees are really cool. Its an enjoyable shopping experience. (Almost reminds of a really clean, comfortable, well lit library... except you dont have to bring the books back because you buy them!!)

They have a great movie and music section! I didnt know they had one till I went there. The guy behind the counter, Miles was very nice and helped me find what I was looking for. I was also looking for a textbook for school but they dont carry text books the in the store. Trever was great in informing about how to go about ordering books. They dont have any outlets for charging your laptop but they do have some chairs and space to work and the cafe is nice enough. All around good store.

I actually want to live here! Its a pretty huge book store with a lot of books, magazines, games and toys, gifts, music (CD and vinyl). They have seats all over the place, so you can just grab a book and spend a few hours here. Also they have a cafe with starbucks coffee (better than nothing) and snacks. And you definitely should check their sale section. They have a lot of beautiful illustrated books here. Also good parking with a lot of spaces.
