Issues in every stage. Bought a used car here in 2012. Price was right. Salesman was terrible. During our test drive, he didnt know anything about the car (which is fair, considering it wasnt a Toyota. Which is also stupid, because if youre getting a commission for selling a car, you might want to take ten minutes to be prepared to answer questions...), then proceeded with serious attitude to explain that he wasnt going to make enough commission on this car to make it worthwhile. Okay, why are you trying to sell it to us then, jerk? Also the longest paperwork session Ive ever had. It took two and a half hours, which is absurd. Service- the writers are nice enough. Very inconsistent with time- not ready when you have an appointment, then the repair takes either half as long or twice the time estimated. Always trying to sell something you dont need. I replace my own cabin filter, but they hound me about it every time I take it in for service. I suppose this happens at a lot of dealerships, but it is very pronounced here. Prices are higher than other dealerships for most services. Its important to me to bring my Toyota to the dealership, but I guess Ill have to find a new one. Parts- This is the area that prompted the review. I went to buy a part, had the part number ready. The salesman told me itd be $17. I thought it was high (for a wiper blade insert- just the rubber, mind you), but I paid and left. When I got home, it occurred to me to check out other dealerships in the OC. I called six, and the prices ranged from $9.97 to $10.79. SIX Toyota dealers were within a dollar of each other, and this place charged me $17! Thats over 60% markup from what their direct, already overpriced competitors charged. This is a principle decision. This is a poorly run, terribly audacious dealership. Caring that little about the customer and that relationship shows a staggering lack of comprehension. The terrible reviews here are certainly warranted.

When we bought our Sequoia from them in 2006, the salesman employed every trick in the sleezy-car-salesmen book: would not give us back the keys on the trade in, "I have to take this to my manager", lied about benefits of the VIP card, etc. Despite that, they offered the best deal, and hey, I am buying a car, not taking the guy to prom, I do not have to like him. Despite his behavior, the service department was great. They did the regular maintenance (at a higher price than I would like, but its a dealership, what do you expect?) reasonably well and with only a minor mistake here or there (like forgetting to reset the maintenance light). Unfortunately, since the name change (to Toyota/Scion of SJC from Family Toyota), they have obviously altered the way the service department is run. Instead of being able to call in with a problem and anyone being able to run with it, if the guy you first talk to isnt in the day you call back, you are out of luck. They have also gone to an upsell model on maintainence. When I called our regular (proven skilled and reliable, plus related) mechanic to get a price for the additional work they claimed I needed, he actually laughed. He told me that there is no way that a 2.5 year old car (w/ 30k miles) needed the work they said they needed to do. We will have the car in to see him soon for brakes, and he will check it then to be sure, but he said that if it is indeed a problem, the car has a major design defect which would have been apparent model-wide by now. So, if you choose to do business with them, be ready to play hardball with the sales folks, and watch your wallet around service.

It was after hours for the service department and I had just towed my Prius to Toyota. You see, I am THAT Prius driver that you laugh at on the side of the road with my gas tank door open waiting for my friends to come back with gas since I just ran out. Yes, apparently 490 miles to my tank was not enough for me to be worried. Upon the tow truck driver waving goodbye at me I realize I am in a predicament. You see, while I was driving on the freeway, my vehicle stopped accelerating and was decelerating. I tried the faithful maneuver that saved me many a times in my 1995 Buick as a teenager which was to start pumping the gas pedal until I could safely exit the freeway. Not a good idea. This drained my reserve battery, so once I put in 3 gallons of gas, my car still wouldnt start. As I was pacing about, I noticed in the horizon 2 figures approaching me. One of these figures was a man named Nasser and the other was a man with no name. Eager to help, they suggested I try putting in more gas. My mom (who came to my rescue as well) took me to get another gallon. The unnamed man as well as Nasser took it upon themselves to put together this horrible portable gas filler the gas stations sell, and, while getting a good amount of gas on themselves, Nasser was able to achieve the conquest of filling my tank up. But alas, the Prius wouldnt start. Determined, Nasser worked his magic and after 5 minutes, pinpointed the problem and saved the day (my hero)! His tenacious relentlessness and optimistic problemsolving skills make me give this man 5 stars, a clap of my hands, and a boisterous well done.

I am writing this with a heavy heart. This dealer took advantage of a 72 year old. The dealer sent out a flier to people about refinancing their car. Keep in mind he just purchased this used truck 11 months ago. They sold him on a new truck again. He asked 3 times how much are you given me on my old truck. They never gave him any numbers. He thought he was getting a new truck at 3.9 percent. He found out the interest rate was at 5 percent. We took him down to the credit union because they offer 1.9 financing. The banker took a look and said we cannot do anything with this because you purchase a 27k dollar truck and you own 41k on this new truck plus he put 5500 down. The banker called the dealer and talked with the finance department and did not give her the time of day. We went back down to the dealer to see if we can keep the trade in. The value of the use 2011 Tacoma was worth way more than the 9k trade in that they gave him. After talking to the manager he said there is no cooling off period in CA. We went round and round with them and they call the police department. The police did there interview and said you will have to take this to court. I ask the police one question. Was this the first time you got called out for this problem. They both said no. This happens at this dealer often. I took a look at reviews online and truly found the type of people that we are dealing with. They called him back in to change the percent rate and take off a 795.00 wheel and tire package that they sold him on. Buyer Beware!!!!

Do not buy from Toyota San Juan Capistrano!!! They will sell you a car and treat you like garbage afterwards. I bought new Toyota Corolla from them last year. Before the car had 4,000 miles, front tires got bold (right worse than the other). I brought the car to the dealership and inquired if the car tires were aligned properly prior they sold it to me. The service manager (he surely does not belong in the dealership) asked me a very "professional" question: "Well, do you make more right turns than left turns?" SERIOUSLY????????? He tried to brush me off to come on Monday, but I said I do not feel safe driving on this car because the tire can pop any minute. Then he tried to find another excuse not to take care of it and noticed a little red paint on the rim (from parking close to the curb) and that was his next explanation of a completely worn out tire at 4,000 miles. To the service manager, this excuse probably sounded very clever after "too many right turns version". They refused to take care of the car and I brought it to another dealer. After they checked the alignment, the technician said that there is no way the tire would wear like that in such a short period of time if it was properly aligned. He confirm that the rim and the tire does not have any deformations which could cause this damage. I have all the proper documentation and pictures supporting the above (including alignment data and statement from the professional technician). DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP!!!!
