In my dreams, the ideal bookstore looks pretty much exactly like Spectator Bookstore. Rows and rows of books, in a seemingly endless maze of winding aisles, burrowing further and further into the building. What I love best about Spectator Bookstore, other than their stellar book selection, is that just when you think youve come to the end of the store, another corridor or set of stairs opens up before you - kind of like a magic treasure cave. Combine this with some great comfy seats on the top floor (with the owners perennial napping cat for company on the couch), and youve got the perfect bookstore. Bonus perks are the wonderful poetry / slam readings they do on weekday nights, and their fantastic late hours.

I bring my second graders here for a field trip each year to practice their money sense (spending $5 cash). The staff has been ever so friendly and patient, even taking the time to help the kids count back their change on their own, work out tax, and choose books they can afford. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of Piedmont!

Nice mix of new releases, new and used books at fair prices. Lots of great used art and craft reference books. They have a fantastically curated selecting of artsy independent greeting cards!
