Normally the service at my local McKlinleyville Safeway is great; never any complaints....but tonight was a different story. This terrible experience had nothing to do with the staff - I felt for each and every one of them. They were obviously very short staffed, and on a busy Friday evening. The two lines for the check-out were beyond unbelievable. Both lines (for the 15 items or less and regular) reached the distance of the store. By the time I actually reached the register, my line had apparently begun to swirl around through the produce section of the store. The checker, Casey, apologized, as did the bagger - but this was not at all their fault. They both looked very stressed out - the whole scene was crazy. Everyone was so amazed at how long the lines had become and how quickly they were growing! McKinleyville Safeway - please dont let this happen again. Its not fair to your customers or your employees. If Im in this situation again, Ill walk and leave my cart behind. Very disappointed.

Animate Yourself

They removed the sit down area!!! You can no longer grab some food or come in and warm up or relax. Nowhere to sit down and eat, no place to charge your appliances either. Horrible employee directions. The woman kept trying to get me to go sit on the cold ground outside while she holds my phone. She wouldnt stop asking me for my phone! And the employees said there was NOWHERE I could go to sit down and eat or warm up or charge my phone anywhere in town... They ASSURED me there was nothing. Of course as I leave 1 block South there is a Starbucks... of course! Horrible employees and lots of stuff I disliked about this store. Just go to one of the other markets close by instead. The only reason I went to safeway instead of the natural food store is because I assumed it had a seating area and I was wrong... And disappointed in the employees possibly trying to steal my phone and giving me bad directional advice and false information. Hate this store. Enough said?

Rented a rug doctor there yesterday, and it did not work. The lady at the customer service desk was very polite even after I was very rude and expressed my feelings. She refunded me the money right away and took down my name and number for possibly more of a refund if needed. She was very polite and kept composer as I was the one being very difficult and upset. She should get a pat on the back and a good job well done! Although I will never rent a rug doctor again, she made me feel like it was okay and there was not a problem!

The wait in lines are always bad here but they seem to be under staffed but that has nothing to do with the employees. But today I went in to get a sandwich for my son and I and the older lady behind the counter couldnt have seemed more inconvenience do to make if she tried. She went as far as throwing a loaf of bread . I will never go back to that safeway again if this type of behavior is tolerated. Ill be going over to Rays market from now on.

Its a pretty nice grocery store. I like their fake wood flooring, it makes it more interesting than your average grocery store. Good selection of things at a good price if youre a member. Theyve got a few local items, but the selection cant match the Co-Op or Eureka Natural Foods, so if thats your interest Id recommend visiting there instead. Their prices are better than either of those places though.

Found management to be very rude and unprofessional. Fumbling through customer interactions very neanderthal_like. If you have 17 itemsm you get kicked out of express lane. Avoid at all costs, take the extra time dealing with chaos that it is, and go to arcata safeway. Normal and above average management and staff.

Recently underwent face-lift that did wonders for the atmosphere. Nice selection of produce, organic included. In-store bakery and deli. My co-workers rave about their sandwiches. Nice cheese and wine selection. Much nicer lay-out than previous. Problem is I spend more now! ;)

We went in to get corn on the cob for a cookout and they had none, zero, zilch, nada. You know, we were really looking forward to having it with BBQ steaks. We walked out without buying anything. We wont rely on this store to have advertsed specials.

Parking lot is too small can never find a place to park. Not enough Checkers at the checkstand so there are long long line to check out store is extremely crowded. They dont offer carts for disabled people that are electric driven

Super long waits when its busy. A high turnover so theres not much experience behind the counter on the regular.dont go there in a hurry because the lines are at a stand still while people talk and argue
