This was my first time going to Simply Wholesome, Ive been hearing about this place for quite some time. Whenever I tell someone "Im Vegan", or the topic of vegan restaurants in Los Angeles is on the table, Simply Wholesome surfaces. Finally, I thought to myself, "I can try a new spot and quite possibly add it to my list of favorites". NOT in this case. Upon arriving, I noticed the dessert case. Large pieces of individually cut cake in plastic containers far from aesthetically pleasing. The slices were sloppy, and the cake looked very dense and heavy. The restaurant was poorly lit, and it was unclear whether I should seat myself or go to the counter for help. At that point, my friend, whod been there one time before, informed me to go to the counter to order and theyll bring the food to my table. Initially, I was under the impression that the entire restaurant was vegan/ vegetarian. I believe its safe to say that its not completely vegan/vegetarian based on several items on the menu. Speaking of the menu, there was SO much to choose from but the layout was poor. The menu would be easier to read if there was a clear defining line between the carnivorous and the vegan/vegetarian selections. Everything just appeared to blend together which causes confusion when it comes to ordering. I ordered the Simply Lite (greens, macaroni pie, rice & peas) with a spinach Jamaican patty, and an order of plantains. I ended up sending the Simply Lite back for a refund. The greens were bland and tasteless, even after I seasoned it with a little salt & pepper, there was no hope for the greens. The rice & peas were dry, and the macaroni & cheese pie was..."overcooked" and under seasoned as well. Im not sure what people are tasting when they go to this restaurant but, my experience, on a scale from 1 to 10 was a 2. When is comes to Caribbean or West Indian cuisine, which is what this dish was listed under, there are certain flavors and spices one should use when preparing dishes. I am not sure if this was suppose to be a "twist" on this Caribbean or West Indian dish, but what I do know is that is was POORLY executed. Instead, I ate 2 Jamaican patties, the spinach and cabbage. I didnt finish the plantains because they, too, were lack luster. I want to give this place another try...maybe have a juiced drink or something but, the food COUNT ME OUT! I will NOT recommend the food in this place to anyone. The girls at behind the counter were nice, and I didnt have any problem getting my money back due to my unsatisfactory dish. The service was "Good" but the food...left a lot to be desired. Not sure if anyone from the restaurant will read this but, I suggest revamping the menu and taking a second look and/or retraining the kitchen staff to prepare the food the way you intended for it to be prepared. Be Well

Dreadlock in my burger! I got a dreadlock - IN- my burger!! SERIOUSLY, there was a DREADLOCK IN MY BURGER!!! My husband didnt want to make a big deal about it. He wanted us to just leave but I couldnt in good conscience just leave. I insisted he talk to the manager, he did, we got our money back and we left. Needless to say, I will NEVER return to Simply Wholesome. My husband and I are new to the area and wanted to try a local restaurant. The name of the restaurant attracted us, so off we went, in hopes of finding delicious food close to our home. No luck here. Save your time and money. Negatives: -It took half an hour to get a veggie burger and a lentil burger to the table. Once the food was at the table, we noticed there was a DREADLOCK in the lentil burger. -The cashier doesnt look you in the eye when she is taking your order or your money. Weird. -People smoking weed in the parking lot. (well, to be fair, one person in the car next to me) I will never go back.

Good food, but service isnt fast. Courteous, depending on who you work with. I arrived with 2 minutes to spare before closing. I wanted to buy a slice of cake and i saw people were still eating. The woman at the door wouldnt let me in. She said, "we close at 10." It wasnt yet 10. Another worker told her i just wanted to buy a slice of cake but she refused. I asked what time I should arrive in the future to make last purchase and she repeated herself, "Sorry, we close at 10". We stood talking at the door about how they close at 10, me showing her it wasnt yet 10 for 2 minutes. I finally asked, "should i arrive 5 minutes before?" She replied, "Thats fair. We close when our clock says 10." Smh. I couldve bought the cake and been gone by 10. They would have had a few extra dollars, I wouldve been Happy and left a great review. This is what separates good businesses from poor businesses. Not only did they lose my sale that day, they are going to lose future sales.

I have been going to Simply Wholesome for 12 years ever since I lived in LeMeirt Park. Now that I am back in the neighborhood, I find myself disappointed with how few things on the menu I care for. I am not a smoothie/juice person so I cannot comment on that aspect of the menu, but with the exception of the patties (which are not like traditional Jamaican patties, but still tasty), I just havent found much on the menu I can recommend. Dont get me wrong, I find a lot of the offerings to be healthy and its one of few places in the neighborhood offering anything not drenched in fat. So I will continue to go even though the food tends to be flat and somewhat bland, but mostly because of the convenience and not because of the quality of the food. By the way, the service and energy in the place is really nice...

This is my third time ordering Nubian tacos and get home and the ingredients that are listed on menu are not in the taco! Worse...I take back my order after getting attitude over the phone from the staff (1st man blatantly put me on hold because he has no idea of how to conduct himself customer service wise) 2nd call she tells me owner not available to speak with me! Took my # and suggested I bring it back and get order right! I go back and their reasoning is oh! we dont have the purple cabbage and green onions! All I got was cucumbers! Their solution was take my bag from me and give me back my money! I am sadden by the lack of customer service and they should not sell the item if ingredients are not in my selection that I am paying for! My ratings for you is 0! Not coming back!!!

HalleluYah! The atmosphere at Simply Wholesome is one of a kind; refreshing, sensual and oozing with love. We are always greeted and welcomed by the beautiful black and brown faces & their light spirited hearts. The menu has something delightful for every one in the family to enjoy. The chef in the back is one of our favorites as he is always smiling. The establishment is also equipped with a small yet sufficient food store to meet your needs conveniently. April and Percil, the owners, are hard workers and very sociable (Mrs. Simply & Mr. Wholesome). Overall the spiritual energy here commands only the best experience for those looking to do something greater in life. You will be thankful to God that you discovered this gem. Be sure to pay it forward. Shalom.
