My first experience with Whole foods was in LA years ago from a much more health conscious friend of mine. It was cool and back then I thought more trendy. I didnt actually know anyone who was vegan, vegetarian, ovolactopescadarian, etc. I was young and ate what I wanted. Now that Im back in San Diego and more conscious of what I put ni my body I often shop here for things I cant find at my local henrys or trader joes market like Seitan, sushi (best sushi outside of a sushi restaurant and very reasonable pricing and they offer brown rice options), quinoa, seafood (selection rivals a pure seafood market), meats (rivals a pure butcher). Compared to the WF is Irvine this places is tiny, but compared to the new one in Encinitas this place is large. Great hot food bar selections, decent breads and tasty pizzas. Parking lot sucks, due to proximity to other largely popular eateries, restaurants and UCSD. This place is packed from 11am-1pm every weekday and from 4pm-7pm everyday. Unlike other grocery chains the workers here are helpful and honest, will go out of their way to show you where things are, explain food options rather than just stock shelves. Prices are probably 10%-20% higher than similar less healthy items, but WF buys a lot of local and a lot of organic produce and carries options no one else does. A great place to check out once you start caring about your health and what you put in your body.

I get that good quality organic food costs a premium but Whole Foods really takes it to the next level. Ive done some price checking and you can get some of the same exact items at Sprouts, Trader Joes, Vons or even online (including shipping) for up to 20% less. Yes, they have a wider selection of organic produce, meats, seafood, cheese, etc and everything is always beautifully stocked but for me so Ill give them credit for that. However, its almost cheaper to eat out than buy groceries to cook from here. Additionally, I dont like the confusing way some of the items are shelved. It takes me twice as long to get my grocery shopping done here because of that. The hot bar is a total ripoff for the mediocre selection and taste. Got it once and was sorely disappointed for what I expected to be "good quality". Not making that mistake again. I will still come here once in a blue moon to purchase specialty items I cant find elsewhere but other than that, Ive learned my lesson.

I love Whole Foods. This is my "last-resort" for healthy finds if a food Im looking for isnt found in Sprouts or Fresh&Easy. Why? Because prices are slightly more expensive than at the other 2. No matter though. This place never lets me down when Im trying to find rolled oats, organic produce, a great selection of ready-to-eat hot food from their self-serve area, and even environmentally-friendly, organic non-food items. PARKING: Depending on when you go, this area can get really busy during the lunch hour rush, mainly because this particular Whole Foods sits in the same plaza as other restaurants, FedEx, CVS Pharmacy, and 2 banks. Youve been warned. :) SERVICE: Everyone is extremely helpful here. You wont be lost trying to find something because theyre always happy to help.

I stop by Whole Foods occasionally on my way to work in the mornings to pick up breakfast. Their breakfast bar is absolutely fantastic. You can usually find a good assortment of eggs, meat (turkey sausage, bacon, and the like), fresh fruit and more. On Wednesdays they knock around 30% off the price of the weighted food bar. The interior restaurant has cool daily specials and a nice happy hour featuring local craft brews. Last night (Thursday) they were offering pizza and a beer for $6.99 and showing the Chargers game. Love it.

My big problem with this Whole Foods location is the parking. Parking, especially at lunch time during the week (I rarely visit during the weekend) is atrocious. It has to share parking space with several other restaurants, fast food joints, a CVS and a couple of banks, and I have, at least twice, driven away after 10 minutes of driving around their parking lot trying to find a spot. Although it has improved after some renovations, parking is still an issue more often than not.

The layout is monotonous and the staff seem to gravitate towards a select crowd when it comes to friendliness. There is a lot to choose from but they dont do a good job keeping shelves looking neat. The hot food looks messy, reminiscent of a school cafeteria. Ive also been to the Brea location so I guess they set the bar higher. For the people that think wholefoods is expensive, youre not shopping here for savings, you would shop here for the convenience.

I was in La Jolla for a meeting last week and I decided to stop by the Whole Foods in La Jolla for lunch. I had been to several other Whole Foods before but none of them were like this. They had an entire BBQ section. It blew my mind. I got some smoke sausages, went over their pizza section and picked up a hot slice of peperroni pizza and sat down to stuff my face. I will have to come back here again soon and eat again!

Its not cheap feat, but while its draining your bank account, its coaxing your taste buds while dance in the delight of yummy, never ending selections of foods from all around the world. Also Whole Foods brownie bites are my favorite! Oooh and watch out for crazy Whole Foods checkout line drama. Those health nuts can get psycho! :)

Im really disgusted that Whole Foods only operates their stores in high income neighborhoods. Discriminate much! I live near SD Airport and have to travel to La Jolla to shop at this store, because WF permanently closed the one near Little Italy. Its for this reason that I now do all my health food shopping via Amazon.

Best selection of certified organic meats, including pork and grass fed beef, of any natural food store in southern California. The Hillcrest store comes in 2nd. When you get to L.A., just go to the farmers markets in Santa Monica or Hollywood, which beat all of the SoCal natural food stores for produce and meats.

Awful. Staff was rude and judgy. Lay out is atrocious, you can barely move, the patrons and employees are not friendly. Parking lot is horrible and super congested. All on a Wednesday in the middle of the day. Go to Vons or somewhere else where the people are actually friendly. Would have given a 0 if I could!

Filled with all the things you expect from Whole Foods, this location has it all--fresh produce, meats, fish, bakery, cheese and wines. The hot deli had a huge selection, and the cafe is comfortable and easy to navigate. Lots of flowers and plants for sale, accessories for the kitchen, water bottles, etc.

Wow this place has everything you need. THey just added an extra lounge/eating area. Their hot bar and is always amazing -- but you know that already. What can i say that hasnt already been said? Parking is touch, but its a very busy place and thus makes it easy to get all your errands done at once.

Not great. Good cheese selection and cool smoked fish but definitely the worst customer service I have EVER had at a Whole Foods. Waited to be helped at the pizza counter for 5 min while workers standing 4 feet away ignored me. This happens every time I am there. cheese counter is good though.
