You will be pissed to find out that you have been ripped off when you enter this store and see their fish selection. Majority of the other places that do sell fish set them at incredibly high prices--which is ridiculous! Because I did not know about this place for a while, I spent majority of my money purchasing fish that I was getting ripped off for. I have spent about $20-50 for some fish species that I found were HALF the price at Forest Lake Pets. I recommend that those who are interested in the hobby should check out this place. The sales associates were very nice and are knowledgeable about the fish that they were selling. When I asked a question about the transparent larvae swimming with the fish that just got bagged for me, I quickly found out that these were glass worms (live feed) for fish. Wow, incredible! I have never seen those before and they look kinda cool too. Without even having to ask, the sales associate went into the back room and came back out with a free sample of glass worms for me to try out and see if I liked it. I did not expect that at all and was completely astonished by their services. Forest Lake Pets definitely has been a great experience and I will continue to do business with them in the future. I encourage those of you who have not checked it out to suck up about the drive and take a look at them. It is well worth the trip!

I was here today to surprise my husband by purchasing a fish that he has wanted. We stopped by last weekend and received all the information we needed on the fish we were interested in. We held off on purchasing the fish until we cleaned the tank first. While my husband was at work, I decided to clean the tank and then run to the store to purchase the fish. There was a younger man there that decided to help me. He asked me a couple of questions and told me that the fish would pretty much murder all of my other fish over night. That was the complete opposite, then what we were told over the weekend. At this point I wasnt too sure now of whether or not I should purchase him, or if my husband even knew about how aggressive this fish was. The guy then told me I didnt have to believe what he was telling me and that he wasnt bullshitin me. He actual went as far as to refuse to sell the fish to me if I wasnt sure. He also said he would even go out of his way to write no refund on my receipt. I was very upset and annoyed at this point, so I left. My husband and I have bought so many fish and fish supplies at this store. We drive 30 minutes there and 30 minutes back to buy from this store. After today, I will never buy from this store again. They lost regular customers because of how some of their staff talks to people. Rude and disrespectful.

Ive been to Forest Lake Pets a few times now, and I have to say they are by far the best pet store Ive ever been to. Not only are the staff extremely friendly, but they also carry fish and fish foods that I wasnt able to find anywhere else (such as blackworms and ghostworms!) I spoke with their staff extensively when purchasing cherry shrimp, bristlenose plecos, and various plants for my tank, and each time they gave me great info and Ive never had any problems as a result. Their prices are also extremely reasonable, and they even carry frozen mice for cheaper than Twin Cities Reptile. Their main focus is freshwater fish, but they do have a saltwater section as well as a few reptiles and other odds and ends. If youre ever in the area make sure to check them out!

So we tour forest lake pets nearly every weekend 1-3 times. The owners Mike and Chris are extremely knowledgeable and personable and the staff is the best! The selection is amazing the guy who works in the salt water is extremely helpful and is honest with us when he feels a fish wont work for our tank. If you tell them what you have they will tell you what you can and cannot get. We heard one of the staff tell a customer he wouldnt sell him goldfish to put in a bowl (small koi and 2 fancy tails) because it wasnt a suitable environment for them and that brought so much joy to me as well as an avid fish lover and keeper. They care about the animals they have and want them to go to good homes. Ive tried to use other fish stores. I cant though because FLP is the best!

AWESOME!!! Forest Lake Pets have a great selection of freshwater fish and aquarium products. Out of all the fish stores in the Twin Cities area they have the best prices when it comes to fish and aquarium products. By best prices I mean low prices that the average hobbyist can afford. They get in rare and hard to find fish on a common bases. If they dont have what you are looking for, they are always willing to try and get it in. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Owners are friendly and always willing to help as well. They will never sell you a sick fish and will always give you great information and advice. I wouldnt look anywhere else but Forest Lake Pets for my aquarium fish and supplies.

They have alot of fish and equipment. However, they dont have it all and I suggest u do your research before asking them questions. I was looking for a sponge filter setup for a 10 gallon planted tank I was setting up but didnt want a loud air pump running it. The kid said a sponge for a 40 gallon and the smallest powerhead they sell would be perfect. The result was very turbulent water so I went to another store and bought one of those little elive internal filters instead. Most recently, I asked an employee about a plant I was looking at and he told me it was wisteria which it clearly WAS NOT. Great selection and prices but the staff isnt very knowledgeable. Do tour own research!

My first trip here was a bit confusing. I would compare it to walking into a casino for the first time. If you are going to purchase from this store give yourself some time to look around the vast inventory. They have lizards and fish and birds and its chock full of animals for sale. I did not purchase any fish my first trip only because I could not decide what I wanted to add to my tanks. I drove 45 minutes specifically to purchase some Bosemani Rainbows however they had only small stock. They get new stock in all the time so I should not have to wait long before they have some larger rainbows to purchase. Overall good experience

They had a very good selection, but apologized for it not being better. Said that because of my long drive (from St. Cloud, MN) in the future if there was something I wanted to look for or have them order, just to give them a call. The person that helped me said they would go as far as to check every tank for me. When he realized we came from St Cloud, he gave us a fish box (used for shipping) and didnt charge us anything for it. There were a few fish that werent labeled that the guy helping me couldnt recognize, but that happens with cichlids, particularly with juveniles.
