There was no one staffing the grill section on the first Saturday in June. Since we couldnt get any questions answered, we bought the least expensive propane grill we could find and went to the checkout. I have enough past experience with propane grills to know to ask for propane at checkout. We did and went to the Customer Service counter with our receipt to get a $50 tank -- $20 we were told was for the deposit, $30 for the propane in the tank. Unbeknownst to me, the grill we purchased was fitted with the smaller receptacle for small, portable camping-type tanks. Okay. We head back to the same Home Depot to return the tank -- and presumably buy a half-dozen or so camper sized canisters. Only then did we learn Home Depot does not take returns on unused propane tanks. Okay. Fair enough -- I suppose someone could have drained the tank and put a new seal on it and seek to return it for full price. Surely we could get our deposit on the tank back, right? No. According to the manager, we had purchased the tank. There was no deposit. Now, Ive worked in executive management long enough to know that when someone beneath me makes a mistake or provides wrong information, I have to take responsibility. Not this manager. He effectively told us that he was the cashiers supervisor and that the cashier of 11 years had misinformed us. He told us to take it up with the propane vendor. To recap: • specifically told that part of the $50 paid was for a deposit on the tank itself • never advised prior to purchase that either used or unused tanks could not be returned (unlike every other item in Home Depot) • the manager made no effort to even provide us the contact information for the vendor for us to follow-through on his advice Simply put, Ive been going to that Home Depot for 20 years, I wont be going to it or any other Home Depot for 21 years! Baller Hardware on Hyperion will get all of my business now...

I shop at Home Depot several times a week. They have many products in the quality and price range that I want. Being close by and being open many hours is a big convenience. The few times that Ive needed help, it pays to know who the people who have worked there awhile and really know the department that your product is in. Just catching any employee walking through a given area can lead to misinformation or getting side tracked. Service can vary depending on the day and time of day. Prices are good because they really squeeze their vendors. Product lines carried varies with what is selling--after all they are in a volume business. Returns are easy and fair. The customer service desk can be of help. Most employees want to help, even new ones, though HD is not noted for extensive employee training. Personally I frequently look for and often help people that look like they need help, which increases my people skills, and many people (customers) think that I am an employee. My viewpoint is asking what did I do or not do to have my day go the way I wanted it to? Home Depot is a great place to help get done what YOU want to accomplish, and I like to participate in that process.

Every Home Depot is pretty much like every other Home Depot. A big box that contains just about any and everything that you would ever need for home improvement and repair. There is one thing about this Home Depot that drives me crazy though. Anyone that has ever stepped into any Home Depot already knows that it is a cavernous space of floor to ceiling isles. Finding what you want can be a bit of an adventure but over time you learn the layout of your local Home Depot and the pain of finding products isnt as bad. Not this Home Depot. They are constantly rearranging the isles of this Home Depot. They just arent moving products 20 feet down the same isle. They are moving products to a completely different part of the store that often doesnt make sense because they leave related products in the old location. It now seems like every time I go in this Home Depot, I am once again completely lost and I waste an hour just trying to find replacement faucet handles for my bathroom sink. It is enough to drive one right off the deep end. I wish they would finally leave well enough alone and give us poor customers a break.

Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. All the employees I spoke to seemed disinterested and disengaged. Everyone was on their phone before, during, and after my interaction with them. Nobody knew how how to smile. I asked for help to get a ladder from one employee, he was on his phone, just said that he would get someone else, 10 minutes later. Somebody shows up. I needed some wood cut, walked around the store to finally find an employee, told me to go over to the desk to make a call over the house speakers. Went back to saw and waited for 5 minutes, another lady called customer service because nobody showed up. Another call was made over loud speaker. 5 minutes go by, I call customer service and they transferred me to a manager. Another call, another 5 minutes. Two employees walked by, we asked, they said it wasnt their job. A couple more minutes the "saw guy" finally showed up. Apparently, its nobodys job to help or assist the customer at this Home Depot and you are 100% a bother if you try to ask a question.

This place has had its highs and lows. Recently they have made a lot of improvements with the store layout and they do have a lot more inventory. Its a convenient location and most of the employees really know their department and can offer help, but it does take some time because they are usually always helping a customer but they make sure you find what you need before they help someone else. I gave it one less star because they recently changed the store hours and it now closes at 11pm instead of midnight, and 10pm on Sundays. I also once had a issue at closing time a few years ago and I filed a complaint and the store manager actually called me and listened to me and he asked me to come back to the store the next day and gave me $300 off my purchase ($800+) and I noticed several changes in management right after that. So they really do try but with a store that large its hard to make sure everyone has a good experience.

I operate a Property Management and Development firm based out of West Hollywood. I have had so many negative experiences at this Home Depot--where we routinely spent at least $2.000 a month on our HD Commercial Revolving Acct--that I now drive to the store on Jefferson BL. for small items, and utilize HD Supply for most everything else. If it werent for our exceptional sales rep Troy at the Marina Del Rey store, I wouldnt spend a dime at any other Home Depot store. The Sunset store presents levels of service and accountability so horrific that Ive gone so far as to instruct my team leaders never to use their cards there again, even though they live within a mile of the store. Theyve cost me thousands of dollars in lost time and caused projects to run several days off base... dont let them do the same to you.
