Humboldt Bay

Odd that Pierson would rather attack the fact that my Facebook page, which I recently created, was not updated to include my new location and fact that I retired from TX Dept of Public Safety. I moved to Eureka upon my retirement; I have family in the area. I do not regularly use Facebook, so did not update my recent retirement/move. Of course, Pierson had no REAL response to their overly high prices; they were more concerned with attacking my Facebook page. They never denied that they rape every local pocket that comes through the doors. Why wouldnt they? They have managed to keep national chains out of Eureka so far and therefore have no competition. Yet, the same items in their store comes from the SAME suppliers that Home Depot uses. HD was 40% cheaper, including shipping. What was Piersons response? Attack on a recently established Facebook page that was not updated. One would think they would respond to the overpricing, but they never even attempted to deny the facts. Shop online until the new effort to bring Home Depot to Eureka begins; HD should be up and running by the winter. Then, we will see how Pierson tries to justify the massive overpricing.

Ill describe 3 really good experiences over the last month and let YOU be the judge. The latest was the youngish light-haired paint guy matched the paint on my old, faded piece of siding so unbelievably well that even I cant see where my touch-up begins and ends... and it wasnt easy, he tried a number of times till he was satisfied. Im just blown away by how extremely good and hard-working he was. 2 - the work gloves selection!!! My brothers motorcycle gloves were stolen and he had a 9-hr drive ahead of him, so we went there to get some to tide him over... astonishing selection, really high quality leathers, and so low we had to laugh!! Lastly, when I went to a nation-wide hardware store for about 12 wire nuts, I had to buy a huge amount to get those 12 nuts. Went to Piersons afterwards and saw that you could just grab the amount you wanted from the bin and pay just pennies versus the $10 I paid the hardware store. And their folks are SO encouraging and smart! What, exactly, is not to love here???

This place overcharges on EVERY item; most items can be had at Walmart or Home Depot for 1/3 the price that Piersons charges. If you like to be "pocket raped", then, by all means, shop at this money greedy store. The citizens of Eureka are learning why Pierson lobbied so hard to keep Home Depot from entering the local market; Pierson failed to stop Walmart, though. Soon, with Walmart planning a new SuperCenter for Humboldt County, along with Home Depot, the citizens of Eureka will only have to travel a short distance from the Eureka limits to get items at good prices; not a chance Pierson will be able to stop Walmart/Home Depot Center, since they have already purchased land and permits are in process. If you need home improvement items, look elsewhere or order online. Even with shipping costs, Home Depot is 66% cheaper than Piersons Ripoff Center!

Those of you who want Walmart/Home Depot prices should stay in your dirty greedy cities and leave Humboldt. Get a sense of community, or go back home. Youre all the same tailgaters haggling nickle & diming everyone around you because youre over paid and cheap. I really cant imagine anyone giving this place bad reviews for friendliness or even price. For Gods sake you live in the beautiful Redwoods out of the rat race you bunch of greedy self centered idiots. Piersons employees are the most friendly and artsy hardware/garden store employees Ive ever had the pleasure in dealing with. They really go out of their way to help you here. Ive been in home stores from Los Angeles to San Francisco and this is by far my best experience of all :)

I needed 9 sets of 4 panel doors. I checked the internet and went to Piersons and found their prices competitive. I found a nice set of solid core doors in the samples and I bough one to see how it worked. I got it home and unpacked it. I would swear this set of doors was a second. I returned it and got my doors elsewhere. I suggest if you are buying a door/doors from Piersons that you open the box and look before you take it out of the store. I feel they sell seconds at the good door price.

The clerks at the front register in the garden shop are not very friendly. Also, I had purchased some flowers which I needed to use a garden cart. When I rolled my cart up to the counter to pay for them, I put them on the counter. Then, when it came time to leave, someone had taken my cart away. :( Btw, PIERSONS needs to stay open until 9:00pm. It gives shoppers that work during the day an opportunity to shop. I also prefer shopping at Home Depot.

The staff are almost always knowledgeable and experienced in their departments. I can get thoughtful and informed advice on tricky repair and building projects. Sure, you might be able to save a few dollars elsewhere, but what does that get you when you need advice and helpfulness.

Great selection! It may be because we have only small hardware stores near home, but we love to stop at Piersons any time we are in Eureka. The staff is helpful and cheerful. Parking is a mess, but only when they are busy.

The garden department is the best in town. They buy from local Humboldt growers as much as possible. If there is ever anything you need just ask Lydia, the garden manager, and she can get it for you.

Very large store and lumber yard. Much better than Home Depot with many hard to find items in stock. Very friendly staff and very reasonable return policy. Has been in business well over 50 years.
