Dont know how it is with other Home Depots, but this particular location has given up on customer service. To be clear, it just doesnt believe in it. It seems as though they specifically train their employees to be rude and unhelpful, or better yet, to just ignore the customers, on purpose. Not a very smart business strategy. And it has been like this for years now. Despite all the customer complaints regarding the atrocious personnel that interacts with customers directly, the management hasnt given any tangible indication that they give a care. This last encounter, I decided to call ahead and maybe get better service. Not a chance! After a rude lady picked up the phone, I told her I was wondering if they had what I was looking for, she responded by, "yeah, whatcha want?" (literally). I told her what was the item I was looking for, after which she just put me on hold without saying a word. The hold time was about 7 minutes (unheard of, for a store). Then again, as if nothing happened she picked up the phone again with "Home Depot, El Cerrito". I again told her what I needed, she dropped me on hold again, in the same way, and after about 5 minutes hold time I heard her pick up the line again and... CLICK! She hung up on me. I tried calling back -- no answer. What a shame. Please dont shop at this store if you possibly can. Demand a better customer service by voting with your dollar!

I tend to go here for small errands since it is further than the local OSH with worse selection for gardening. However, sometimes you need something that only Home Depot or Amazon stocks. The employees are generally unhelpful. Ive had one or two actually walk me to the right aisle, but for the most part they just flail in the general direction and leave me to guess at their horribly organized shelves. In general, the store is laid out badly. You would expect saw blades to be placed next to the saws they go with, not 2 aisles down. You would expect gardening tools to all end up on the same aisle, not spread across 3 or 4. This store is a lesson in bad planning. With that aside, Ive had trouble with this store and their posted hours. It seems like a small thing, but posted hours are a promise to allow you to shop within those hours. If I get in my car and drive to your store, only to have you lock the doors in my face a few minutes before close, I am going to be necessarily disappointed. If you want to close at 7:55, post that as your hours. Misleading customers is downright bad service.

I called This morning, Sunday, chose lumber and building materials, was transferred to a woman who sounded miffed when I asked her if I could get some prices on some roofing material. She transferred me to a guy named mike who told me getting me a quote on some OSB would take a while, because he had to get off the phone walk over to another part of the store get the price and walk back. I chose to ask him instead a technical question about poly carbonate roofing, specifically what the foam pieces were used for and ventured a guess while asking the question. during that process he said they were used as spacers. Then he said he would get me a roofing expert and the phone went dead. That was 5 minutes ago. We use home depot not because they are the best in suppliers or have the most knowledgeable staff but because we have no other options other than expensive lumber retailers. They just finished answering my phone call a guy named clyde a little more knowledgeable and friendly. a last minute save after 17 minutes on the phone.

This is absolutely the worst hardware store Ive ever been to and certainly the worst Home Depot youll ever visit. The staff are consistently misinformed about product specifics, where to find products, or even what they stock in the store. The place is disgusting - displays are covered in dust, floors are dirty, products are restocked half-opened and damaged (Ive had to return more than one thing due to this problem). Dont trust the Home Depot app - if it says its in stock, thats most likely NOT the case at this store. Its absurd how bad this place is. If you have time, just drive over the bridge to the San Rafael Home Depot, where the rich folks are treated to a clean, pleasant store with well-informed, helpful employees. If you have the money, go to the OSH in Pinole, where both quality of the products and the customer service are far better (you get what you pay for).

Ive been to many Home Depots and always find employees in every department who are willing to help and knowledgable about surrounding areas. Not here. The first person I found ignored me until I made the introduction to service. He then groaned when I indocated I needed help having a pipe cut as "the plumber is never around." We finally found the plumbing dept employee but there was a line of 4 other people waiting for his help. Upon learning that I wanted a pipe cut, he told me to wait in that aisle. I then watched as he helped three other people who came to him after me. 30 minutes after my first attempt to have a pipe cut, I am standing in the aisle, writing this review. I have not seen a single manager either. I drove past several other hardware stores to come here because of my past experiences but it would seem things have changed..

After dealing with some rude associates in the El Cerrito store, I was prepared for the worst, but found the best! I have never been treated so nicely in a big box store. Having just moved I am always needing something from Home Depot and seriously I think my car could get there without me. They have helped me find the flooring I wanted in another of their stores at a greatly reduced price, called and had the boxes set aside for me; another associate checked the stock to find me the storage shelves I wanted; and yet another helped me find and loaded the saw horses I needed in my cart. I can not say enough nice things about this store and just know other folks have had similar experiences.

If you are in need of getting some keys cut, DO NOT come here. Every time I have gone here for this service I always get attitude from the people that are supposed to be there to "help" you. It is almost like you are asking them to commit a crime, they play a game of toss up on who is "supposed" to help you. Listen, I DO NOT care who is "supposed" to help, you are standing here....YOU should help, its not like it is hard to press a few buttons on the damn machine. Lazy employees.... I recommend going down a few blocks to Velocity Lock & Key, it is run by a husband and wife team who are both VERY helpful and knowledgeable.

Worst customer service. Ive been coming here for years because it is so close to the house but I think Im done. All I needed yesterday was a small length of chain for my daughters toy kitchen. Pretty quiet afternoon, asked twice, waited a total of 12 minutes. Ive had other experiences, like when I was returning their rental truck and the only person who could check the truck back in was out to lunch. Huh? A lot of businesses think they they can get by on sheer volume of customers and low prices and skimp on the customer service, youll find most of those businesses eventually in the trash pile. Oh well.
