My iPhone had dropped into water and could no longer be charged. I would have considered a new phone (getting ready soon) except that I had had issues backing up my Contacts so had to get it running again. I received excellent, reasonably priced, and near immediate service from University Wireless. Their charge for drying a wet phone and testing components is only $20. I was pretty sure going in that the lightning collector (the component that links to the exterior charger) would have to be replaced. Their method was to check every component after drying and then get back to me if anything had been blown -- e.g. screen, motherboard, battery, etc. -- so I could make the decision on whether to go forward with replacement. They did have to replace the lightening collector which cost another $40 (+tax) which is a very fair price (I did pricing online before bringing it in). The phone was fixed and back to me in less than 2 hrs. They also showed me how to solved my backup issue which has been perplexing me for awhile. (A simple missed checkmark...) I also now know what to do and NOT to do if (heaven forbid) I drop my phone in the water again. Turn the phone off immediately and keep it off for 5-7 days if you are trying to dry it yourself OR spend $20 and let the guys at University Wireless quickly dry it for you. If I had done the right thing, I may not have shorted out the lightening collector.
