After comparison-shopping at a dozen furniture stores in the bay area, I settled on Scandinavian Designs in Concord to furnish my apartment -- and returned there three years later to furnish a new apartment I moved into. They offer an impressive variety of quality wooden furniture, much of it manufactured in Europe and the U.S. Both salesmen I worked with proved very knowledgeable about their products, even offering some handy interior design suggestions along with informational brochures for the more complex pieces. Their prices seem reasonable given the quality of the furniture, and they offer a delivery service for a flat fee of $65. Some of their pieces come pre-assembled; others you have to assemble yourself (or pay for assembly upon delivery). When I received delivery of two tall and heavy wooden bookcases with assembly required, I opened the boxes to find a bewildering array of hardware with no assembly instructions. So I called Scandinavian Designs on a Sunday (theyre open 7 days a week), and they connected me with their warehouse manager. After confirming that no assembly instructions were available for my bookcases, he patiently stepped me through the assembly procedure over the phone. While assembling a large wooden desk with modular drawers below and hutch/bookcase above, I realized the instructions did not indicate the sequence of modular assembly. So I called Scandinavian Designs and spoke to a salesman who had hands-on experience assembling that modular desk unit for their floor display. He advised me, after assembling the basic desk, to turn it upside down so as to securely attach the drawers -- then turn the assembly right-side up again and finally seat the hutch on top. That advice proved crucial to a successful assembly.

We wanted to buy really good quality office furniture. We looked at the desks and file cabinets at Scandinavian design and loved the rich dark cherry color and inlay on one style. We were concerned, though, because we saw lines that looked like smudges or scratches on the display model. We asked the salesperson and she said not to worry, that someone had put something heavy on them and that these desks had a finish that would stand up to normal office use. We spent over $2000, thinking that these desks and file cabinets would last a long time. We lugged them home, set them up and a few days later noticed scratches just from the mouse. We looked further and saw that everything we put on the the desks left a scratch in what turned out to be a cheap lacquer finish. We called the store and they claimed they sold many of the sets and never had any returned. The salesperson later claimed that after we called they had gone up with a mouse and tried to recreate the scratches on their model but could not do so. When we returned ours desks (fortunately we were not given any resistance to a full refund but it was an incredible waste of our time) we went up to look at the models again and they were full of scratches even from the light plastic stand that holds the information brochure on the desks. I cannot believe this company tries to pass itself off as a high quality furniture store and has their salespeople tell lies to try and get the stuff out the door. I have nothing against products made in China or anywhere else, in fact I have seen some gorgeous high quality lacquer work from China. Everyone needs to know that the Scandinavian "Design" made in China is the cheapest quality.

Quality of products- ZERO (the majority of furniture is beaten and battered) Customer Service rating- ZERO (Lin quite obviously dislikes his job as well as the customers, I will expand more on this in a moment. Purchased a painting. When we got it home we found that due to the packaging by Scandinavian Design all 4 corners were damaged beyond repair. We were told to come back for an exchange. We asked to look at the new painting before we took it home and it was in worse condition than the first one. Not to mention that the colors were completely different. The warehouse guys told us that they had just received a new shipment of paintings and that we should look in the showroom for a replacement. We found 2 painting and a mirror. We were told by Lin that we could not purchase the mirror and that we have to order the paintings! We explained our concerns regarding quality (or lack there of) and the inability of guaranteeing that the colors would be exactly the same. Its a painting not a print. How can you possibly purchase something thats going to be a focal point on your wall sight unseen? Not to mention the waisted time on our part driving back and forth with the trailer. He (Lin) absolutely refused to understand or care, nor did he do a good job of disguising his distain. So instead of purchasing 4 pieces of art we walked out. I will also add that the manager was lurking behind him during the entire exchange. Apparently conflict resolution, customer service or even a positive disposition are not needed when seeking employment with this company.

I had an Excellent experience buying my bedroom set here. The staff was friendly and the facility looked great! Wendy was my Sales Associate and she was very helpfull and really knew what she was tallking about, it felt like she was genuinely trying to help me rather then just sell me. Wendy made me feel like I was working with an interior designer. Everybody there greeted me with a smile. The only draw back is the distance to my house, but the delivery service brought it right to my home in Marin. Overall great customer service and knowledgeable Sales Reps!

Very expensive for what you get. Most of the furniture was not even comfortable. If you like high end designer and trendy yes semi functional furniture then this place is for you. I found a very comfortable sectional couch with a nice chaise lounge for 1/3rd the cost and just as good if not better quality.

Huge selection of furnitures from home office, living room and bedroom. I like the sale/clearance section of the place. The price are ok on some of the product. So, dont forget the second floor because that where the clearance stuff is at.

The selection is very limited. I wish they would get away from all the "modern" style and create a line of more traditional furniture.
