Let me just start out by saying I am not the type to complain. I can sit for hours in the DMV and not be annoyed, so trust me if Im complaining you know its bad! I was having a problem with the brakes on my car and took it to PepBoys. Wow, what a mistake. I have never been impressed with there costumer service, but after my last experiences there I am NEVER going back! When I drove without warning my breaks would fail. I would press the pedal to the ground and nothing would happen. In Los Angeles traffic that is incredibly dangerous. I immediately took my car in. They quoted me an hour and a half and I ended up sitting there from 10am till 6pm. I went up twice to check on the progress and they acted rude and annoyed. I ended up getting more then $550 worth of work done. They said they had fixed the problem and replaced the faulty break systems. I happily went on my way and that same night the brakes failed again! I took it back in and they looked at it for again way over my quoted time only to proclaim they had fixed it again. They couldnt really tell me the exact problem. Since any work to the breaks was covered under my warranty I went back and repeated these events several times that month. I finally went to visit my brother in law an amazing master mechanic. Both him and my father said without a doubt the master cylinder needed to be replaced. I took this diagnosed back to pepboys and asked them to check it out. They did and said it was perfect and didnt need to be replaced. They got very upset with my frequent visits and treated me like I was making it up. One man said he had test driven my car and never experienced the problem. That was impossible! They would make fun of me and ultimately told me if I didnt like what they were doing I could leave. (trust me I am giving you the edited for the whole family version) Long story short, I took it to another mechanic they said a blind monkey could have seen the master cylinder needed to be replaced. They did the work for $250, half of what pepboys charged, and they actually fixed it. I can not explain just how awful this Pepboys is. Oh, lets not forget the icing on the cake, the good mechanic shop had shown me one of the bolts holding my tire on was missing. I had pep boys do my tires around the same time as the break problem. They are sloppy, uneducated in their field, rude, and a huge rip off. Save your hard earned money and go elsewhere!

I absolutely agree with all previous reviews. You can buy tools, accessories, parts, but do not install something or make any repair in there. One time i got the problem with burned spark-plug and asked them for change, after 1 hour they told me that engine cover gasket is old thats why i got that problem, oil is mixing with gas and burning spark-plugs, so i was OK to change that for another $220. On another day i have noticed leakage from underneath of the car. I went back and asked for fix, mechanic put his hand underneath of engine and shown dirty glove telling me that leakage is coming from somewhere else. I have shown him the oil wet lining of engine cover where they put the new gasket before, so they just need to make proper alignment and tightening of the cover, but mechanic denied everything and says that engine must be completely opened and checked, so another $400. I called the supervisor, they talk to each other in Spanish and sup did the same magic trick with the "hand-under-engine"and told me that the engine must be open. I drown away. In couple days i went to other mechanic shop, they fix that in 10 min and the problem was what i have found. The other time i needed to replace bulb in tail light, after 1 hour they asked me if i have a manual, because they dont know how to open light compartment, altogether it took 3 hours and i have average nissan altima. One time i needed to change the tires on my wifes car and during 2 hours i didnt see any worker there,i asked where is the people, girl said I dont know, maybe on lunch, eight of them?on the same time?for 2 hours? Come on.It took 5 hours. Unfortunately, they are the closest service for me and open until 8 or 9pm and always happening to me in emergency situations. I have a couple of more stories but dont want to make you tired. So, possibly be aware of them.

I always hate walking into this Pep Boys, because I know Im going to get screwed. My hatred for Pep Boys on Olive Ave. in Burbank started when I took my Honda Civic in for an oil change. I dropped off my car in the morning when they opened the garage, filled out the work order, dropped off my keys and walked to work. I returned at 5:30 in the evening to pick up my car and I was shocked and appalled to see that my car was STILL on the jack and they had not even started the job! Their reasoning was that my oil pan was loose and they couldnt change the oil until I bought a new pan. Apparently, they couldnt even muster the brain power to call me during the day and inform me of the glitch. I told them to go ahead and put a new pan on, but they said theyd have to order the part and they wouldnt have the car done until the next day. (Mind you, this was supposed to be a quick, 30-minute oil change.) By 6pm, my car was still on the jack without an oil change. They eventually shoved a screw into the pan to keep it from slipping off, changed the oil and I hit the road cursing the dimwits and numb-skulls at Pep Boys. These people cant even do a simple oil change. Please avoid their service dept. at all costs. If youre into blinged-out license plate frames, faux-sheepskin seat covers and skull decals, then Pep Boys is the place for you. Otherwise, avoid this abysmal hell-hole at all costs!

My car was recently overheating. I took it to PepBoys in Burbank for a coolant system diagnostic check because their price was quite reasonable at about $40. I brought the car in at about 6:30 p.m. and the clerk said that it would be done before they closed at 9 p.m. When I Ubered back just before 9, I was informed that the mechanic would not be able to get to the car until the next day. The mechanic did his checks the following day and diagnosed the problem as a head or head gasket leak. He suggested that I just take the car back to the place where Id had the prior engine work (the head gasket was replaced in Texas a few years back). I tried to get more information about the results of the diagnostics from him (does the thermostat open? is the radiator fan working? etc), but he just kept saying "go back to the place that did the head gasket". The receipt didnt even give any information about what they had found. I took the car to private garage and paid $120 for a coolant system check. This seemed like quite a bit but the mechanic was genuinely interested in figuring out what was wrong with the car so I trusted him. He diagnosed a thermostat housing leak. The entire fix cost me about $250. The car runs great again and it never overheats. The head gasket was definitely not the main problem.
