DO NOT BUY RATS AT PETCO IN OAK CREEK OR ANY OTHER WISCONSIN PETCO STORE. I have always gone to Petco before any other pet store because I love their policy of not selling cats and dogs. In addition to not using puppy mills, they also bring in adoptable cats and dogs from local humane societies. HOWEVER, I cannot recommend that anyone buy a small animal from this store. Some backstory: we bought two rats from the Petco in Kenosha, WI and they died within a month. We then went and bought three rats from this Petco in Oak Creek. All three started sneezing. Within a week and a half, one of them was sickening in the same way that the Kenosha Petco rats had...blood bubbles from the nose, lethargy, etc. The Petco in Oak Creek said that they would not give us the name of a vet that we could take the rat to...and I thought that their policy was that within fifteen days they would pay for vet care as long as it was a vet they recommend, and this was why I was comfortable buy rats at Petco again even after the Kenosha Petco rats had died. The contract implies that you are assured veterinary care for sick pets that you buy as long as it is within fifteen days: "If veterinary care is required within the 15-day period, treatment will be provided through a Petco contracted vet." Instead, on day 14 from when I bought her, they said that they would not let me take Butterscotch (the sick rat from the Petco Oak Creek store) to a contracted vet but that the only way they would take care of her is if I returned her for a refund and they put her in the back of the store. The manager promised that they would take care of her in the store and call us when she gets better when we could repurchase her and take her home. I was very upset at this as I was worried they wouldnt get a vet to look at her or get her any medicine, but they insisted that this was the only option they would give me other than a straight return or exchange for another rat, neither of which I wanted. After doing the paperwork, I gave them my phone number to tape to Butterscotchs cage in the back. They promised they would call to tell me how Butterscotch was doing. It has been a week and a half and I called today. The manager said that the rat hadnt made it....and now I have to tell my kids that Butterscotch is dead. The Petco manager was apologetic about not calling me, but this is ridiculous...and, given the way they rejected my request for an approved vets name, I dont believe that they actually had a vet look at her and give her medicine. DO NOT BUY RATS AT PETCO. This is quite apart from the disease that the little boy in California got from a Petco rat bite last month. Out of five rats that we bought from Petcos in Wisconsin within two months, 60% DIED of some kind of respiratory disease, and their supposed policy of offering vet care for the first 15 days seems to be baloney. Our remaining two rats are still surviving, but Im worried that their sneezing is still an indication that they may also sicken and die. If so, Id rather we take care of them at home than have them die without care in the back of the store, which is what seems to have happened with their sister Butterscotch.

The grooming part of the store in great, and weve had really good service there. Both of our dogs are older and didnt like the change of going to a groomer but the staff did a great job getting the dogs to calm down. The main store is okay, a normal pet store. What the grooming side has for a plus however, the fish and animal sale has as a negative... Ive had fish for a very long time since I was a kid and I know all about proper care (cycle your tank, how to clean it, what fish can go together) every time I go in Ive gotten talked down to. Even if I tell them that I know what I need and want for my tank. They ask me questions about my tank like Im getting the keys to a nuke not a couple of guppies. I actually would be happy with this (most people dont know fish care) but when I tell them that I have a 75 gallon, 55 gallon, a 250 gallon pond and a 10 gallon that have been set up for years they need to back off and stop telling me what fish I should or shouldnt get. Like I said, I know a lot of people dont know how to care for fish but after I go through all of that and listen to someone talk down to me they still dont understand how beta fish dont need to be kept in those terrible little cups, and have actually given me a gourami when I wanted three female sword tails... yeah I told them it wasnt a swordtail but they insisted I was wrong. If I didnt have a tank full of just swordtails, guppies and mollies I wouldnt go here at all. But in order to keep the DNA spread out I like I get an adult from time to time from different locations. The fish are usually healthy, though I personally always put the fish in their own tank for a few days just to be sure. I did have a batch of fifteen neons die within a day once and several goldfish but the others have all done pretty good.

Moved to Louisville, KY where no Petco are currently in existence. Let me say that I miss Petco---there selection just seems to be a bit better than a PetSmart. Price wise I would say comparable if not cheaper on certain items. This location is newer and impressively clean (especially for a pet store). They have a nice big training area/good signage/friendly employees and seemed to have everything well stocked.

One of the few places I could find that grooms cats. Stephanie in the grooming department groomed both of my long haired cats for about 2 1/2 years (I moved from WI, otherwise I would still be coming here!) She was always patient and kind to my cats, and did an excellent job (both cats have received "lion" cuts and sometimes just sanitary cuts; both have looked good). Price is affordable as well.

Tracie was absolutely wonderful while we were picking out my daughters early Christmas present, a Guinea Pig. She spent a lot of time with us, letting my daughter hold nearly every Guinea Pig in the store until she found one she wanted. She answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable. We will be returning to Petco in Oak Creek for our pet needs.

Not too bad, but I just like Pet Smart better. The store felt kind of small, too. But everyone was friendly enough. I wish there were a better selection of dog food.

Clean. Some workers were helpful. The animals looked well cared for. There were many choices for everything. This place is sure to have what you are looking for.

Love this location and the staff. The brand selection is just hands down better than the local PetSmart and they take good care of the adoptable pets on site.
