I am from Arizona, where the Asian population is low and the stores are even more sparse. Im a huge fan of comics and games from Japan, so a friend recommended I stop by the book store on my way through town. Oh. My. God. I was completely unprepared and overwhelmed by the Kinokuniya experience. I dont speak or read a lick of the language, so I had to ask the sales clerk for assistance in finding a few items. Both clerks that helped me were very courteous and helped me find everything I was looking for. There were a few imported comics that we couldnt track down, so they even logged on to Amazon and searched ISBN numbers for me to help out. They were even apologetic when they relayed the news that the titles I was searching for had been out of print for a number of years! I picked up quite a few items at Kinokuniya, including some $10 souvenirs for friends and some $80 art books for myself. Well worth the stop, and well worth the price!

Amazing place. Seriously. Great, friendly staff with awesome service. Youll see a lot of reviews that say the prices are steep but actually its one of the cheapest youll find for Japanese books in the US. Buy something from CDJapan, include shipping, and itll probably go well over how much you would pay in this store. Heck, there was a big Japanese bookstore in Vancouver, CA I went to that sold exact same items but the price was nearly DOUBLE. And that store went out of business as of now. I highly recommend this place. Best place in Seattle to find Japanese goods (more than just books!). Prices are all very good. And if you cant find what youre looking for, theyll happily try and order it for you.

Fun store to be around. I love to just go around and look at the merchandise. You can find this related to Manga, Anime, Figurines, KPop, Jpop. Basically anything Asian lol. Sometimes the stuff is a bit pricey but that is expected. Also there are memberships and promos if you go here often! They usually have their shelves near the stairs change every so often with new merchandise sharing a certain theme. For example. Ghibli, Nekoatsume and last but not least, Pusheen. The service is nice and usually polite. Because this is a popular place, it gets crowded/busy during International District events.

Large branch of this Japanese book store is located in the Uwajimaya complex. Excellent selection of books in every category: cooking, kids, fiction and non. A great place for gifts and stocking stuffers, they carry exclusive Studio Ghibli (Totoro, Ponyo) gift items here. Craft items galore and lots of stationery. There is music here as well....and yes, of course, tons of books in Japanese! Join their buyer club for discounts ($21/year) and watch out for signings and events. They get some good ones!

my favorite bookstore ever. first discovered this place when my friend did a book reading here. i was completely charmed by the cafe with its wallpaper of different book pages, and the tables that swing up against the wall to be tucked out of the way using a book strap.i also love browsing through the store with their random and wonderful recommendations, and i love the low, large chairs that invite you to sit down and read for awhile with them. :) pure bliss.

Considering there are no other places in the area that carries Japanese books, even with hefty markups, sometimes I have no choice if I need to pick up some Japanese books without waiting provided they carry one I am looking for. (as opposed to order online and wait few weeks.) Selections are good but I found storeperson being unhelpful and lousy too many times. This place can use some competition.

Kinokuniya, located inside Uwajimaya grocery story, has a wide selection of Asian media and gifts. We are particularly drawn to their extensive Anime section, which contains both media and collectibles. The stationery section is fantastic with many types and colors of pens, pencils, and other materials. Prices are understandably high given what must be high costs of curating and importing.

This is one of the best bookstores in town! They have every book you can ever imagine, as well as brand new books. The selections are created and I was happy to find Saramago! They also have cute calendars and postcards sprinkled around the store. We went on a rainy Sunday after yoga and it was perfect.

Bookstore, small selection of Western books, they primarily specialize in comics, manga, and more manga. There is also an upstairs with international books, primarily chinese and japanese. Also a diverse stationary section and an entire shelf devoted to easy do it yourself growables.

A well stocked bookstore, there are plenty of books written in Japanese here. Although a bit pricey, this is understandable considering the relatively small demand for Asian language books in the United States and the because most of the items are imported.

Fabulous selection of asian language books and magazines. But best of all: the stationery section. Planners and pens and art supplies and handmade papers and more notebooks than you could use in a lifetime. Possibly my favorite place on the planet.

I love the stationery supplies and cute items in the store. I always find something new and interesting when I am in the store. The mechanical pencils are expensive but well worth the cost. I love my pencils from there.

There was a great selection of Japanese and Chinese language books. You can even buy Japanese comics in English language. After looking through books you can walk next door and get Japanese or Chinese food.

It has a really good selection of Japanese goods, especially for anime music and DVDs, but Kinkuniya switched to a different seller for figures/figmas and I noticed multiple fakes on the shelves.

These guys are the best. Anytime I need a book thats not in stock they order it and call me usually the very next day. The guys in the coffee shop are really nice and the coffee is good too!

This kinokuniya is very small and like all of them, pricey. They have a good selection of Taiwanese books and a lot of stationary supplies, though be careful about breaking your budget

This is a dangerous addiction. Manga, textbooks, CDs, you name it. Expect the prices to not be all that low, but this is one of the best places to get your japanese book fix in town.

Completely agree with other reviews, excellent bookstore with art and writing supplies galore. Love going there to take a look at the Japanese books and get more pens and notebooks!

Good selection of kpop albums! The prices are a bit on the high side, but its a great experience for fans who are not able to purchase merchandise in person.
