I used to love coming here, back when Brian ("Pitbull") was manager. Theres one staff member here that is still super sweet and friendly, welcoming and fun to talk to (red hair, always in a ponytail. I think her name is Kaya). The new staff, only one or two of which I recognize, all seem distant and usually look like they hate their jobs. My worst experience has to have been a few months ago. I used to go to Petland often and play with the puppies; I WANT a puppy but am trying to find the RIGHT puppy. As a pet care company, Petland should understand this. But one visit, after one of the new managers began to work there (Believe her name is Jenny), I had played with a cocker spaniel, and was asking to see a shiba inu. From my visits, I had been told multiple times that the maximum number of dogs you could play with in one visit was three; I was told it was a company-wide policy. We were one of only three families in the store, and there was no one waiting for a play room behind us, so they werent ridiculously busy. As the associate helping us was about to go get the shiba, the new manager, Jenny, pulled her aside and whispered something to her. Then, she came back and said that "they were only letting people play with one puppy today", even though the other two families in the store were already playing with their third puppies. Since I go to Petland frequently, the manager recognized me, and told the employee not to let me play with another dog, since I hadnt purchased one before (again, Im trying to find the right puppy, not just any old dog in the window, and a company that cares about pet care should respect that). I was BLATANTLY discriminated against. Ever since then, Ive felt unwelcome in the store. Even when I do brave my anxiety and walk in the doors, if Jenny is there, I see her giving me dirty looks, and usually leave within a few minutes. I usually dont stay when Jenny is there, only when shes off and another manager is running the shift. My only other complaint would be that theyre very shifty about WHERE they get their puppies. They insist that they dont get them from puppy mills, but they tell you that "the breeder is on the paperwork", which youre not allowed to see unless youre buying the dog. Breeder certifications, names, and locations should be openly available to the public, if you TRULY want people to believe that you dont get your puppies from puppy mills. Furthermore, there are breed-specific conditions that many dogs suffer from. Petland offers general health certificates but 1.) theyre only good for a year, which is FAR before any genetic or hereditary conditions usually surface, and 2.) they dont specify whether or not they screen specific breeds for known health conditions. I am DYING to get a cavalier king charles spaniel, but unless Petland can provide certifications that their cavalier pups have been screened for heart and eye problems, as well as syringomyelia, I would never even consider purchasing a cavi from them. I gave two stars rather than just one because I admire that this particular location takes the time to respond to consumer reviews and explain their viewpoint. The location is also almost always spectacularly clean, which is a plus, but these seem to be the only redeeming qualities.

While I have had several great visits and purchases from this store including a very large breed dog, my most recent visit was beyond horrendous. Although everybody was friendly I have a serious issue with the integrity of some of the sales people. I went during my lunch break to look at some dogs and found a couple of options that I thought my daughter would like. I took pictures sent them to her and she picked two that she really adored. I asked for a price quote on both dogs and was given a price that seemed a little high based on my research but I was willing to do it because Petland has great benefits included. I left the store to finish work and then came back to purchase the dog. When I arrived they had everything ready for me to purchase except the price was $1,000 more then what I was quoted. This is after I finished all the paperwork and retrieve all of the pet supplies I needed. I asked to speak to the manager and he told me they would discounted $200. I appreciated the gesture however that is a bit of an insult when I took the time to come back to the store to purchase the dog that I had expected even though the quoted price was higher than standard. What is even worse is they failed to tell me the dog we originally chose, could not be picked up for another 10 days. Apparently it was sick. Long story short this felt like a very typical car salesman bait and switch. I will never step foot in another Petland and I will make it a goal to ensure everybody hears about this experience. I can understand people making mistakes but how you handle those mistakes is how a business is perceived. In this case this mistake was handled extremely poorly. Or it was very much a bait-and-switch situation and intentional. Again I say they offered a $200 discount not because they misquoted me its because I had been there and purchased a very expensive French mastiff in the past. That is not customer loyalty.

I highly recommend going elsewhereas I had an awful experience with petland Vineyard. Im in love with my husky I got a few weeks ago, however there were several issues. First, I asked an employee how old the dog was and was told 11 weeks. Shocked by how massive the husky would have been for 11 weeks, I even asked two more times before the purchase if he was really 11 weeks and was assured he was. After the purchase, I see the dog was actually 15 WEEKS as it says on the very back of his puppy resource kit. When I bring it up with the manager/owner hes unphased, unapologetic, and simply shows me the birthdate and says "well it says it here". But this isnt even my biggest issue. IMMEDIATELY AFTER (literally seconds) the store accepts my $1500 payment, they tell me my dog has an abnormality in his mouth that I wasnt inforemd of. I dont really mind since I think its rather unique and I love him with all my heart, however it was extremely unprofessional and is seeming more and more like it was intentional. If I had plans to make him a show dog as his bloodline was, I would have a huge issue. So after all this, I go back and left my number with one of the employees for the owner to call me since I wanted to have another word about how they do business. And here I am weeks later and I guess they just ignored me since I cant seem to get a call back.

Buyer beware!!!! We purchased a "purebred" puppy from here and what we got has been a disaster and nightmare. Not only does the dog have health issues-fine, we have her on meds and we will make her better. She had an infection in her uteris, an infection from flea bites (that the sales person told us was "dander", the vet confirmed it was a FLEA INFESTATION that caused an infection!), and was just crazy vomiting from the infections! However, the main thing is that we RECEIVED NO PAPERWORK ON THE DOG TO DATE-MONTHS LATER! The sales people here feed you a load of bull to get a sale, the managers will never call you back nor will the owner, and to boot they will not even provide you with information about the breeder. This was such a disaster and such a scam-total used car salesmen. I will make sure that we tell anyone and everyone about our experience so someone else does not go through the same thing! **edited to add, paperwork that was finally "received" after complaining to the BBB and our credit card company, is MIXED BREED registration with NO breeder information (probably because they use a puppy mill which would explain the FLEA infestation)!!!! Walk away from this store FAST and use a reputable breeder if you are looking for a purebred dog. We learned our lesson the very very hard way!!!
