The key clerks who initially assisted me were pleasant, but their superior Brian Holstein was definitely not. All but accused me of trying to cheat the store. My husband had a spare key made for the car, clerk says if it starts the ignition you are good to go. He leaves the store comes home I ask him to go to right aid for me. He takes the key that was made, gets out, locks the car. He comes out of rite aid and the key does not unlock the car door. He then called me, I had to call a locksmith to have them come and unlock the car as he doesnt have the other key with him, this cost us $140. When he gets home I take the key back to true value, the clerk who inetionally made the key, rekeyed it, it then opened the door however this key set off the alarm, hes tried this five times now after the fifth try I get my money refunded for the key to the tune of $40. The clerk says come back Tuesday, I work 10 to 7, I will see if my manager can refund you the $140 that it cost for the locksmith to come out. So I do this Tuesday after work. The manager Brian is probably the rudest person Ive ever met in my life. He basically told me that I didnt know what I was talking about. No apology whatsoever. It was our fault for not following instructions (excuse me) what instructions!!! Any retailer can receive a defective product from the Mfg., but you need to stand behind what you sell, not make your customer feel bad for returning defective product. In the future even though True Value is way closer to where I live, my local hardware store will be McClendons. I will never step foot in true value again. Anytime your store manager belittles a customer supporting a local business, and insults their intelligence is wrong on so many different levels. The store owner Bruce Davis should be embarrassed that he employed such a rude human being. This isnt about money, this about how you treat customers.

Had a warranty issue with some very expensive ($70/gal) but defective paint recently, and came back to get it replaced. The paint clerks who initially assisted me were pleasant, but their superior was definitely not. All but accused me of trying to cheat the store out of free paint: "what did you do to the paint", "its funny youre returning it with so little left in the can" "were going to analyze it to see if its been altered", etc. I finally got it replaced after they determined that existing cans of this product from their shelf had the same defective property, and almost a full hour later. They were unable to rectify the problem (undissolved soft lumps of goo suspended in the paint) even with multiple mixings and filter straining. No apology whatsoever. Any retailer can receive a defective product from the Mfg., but you need to stand behind what you sell, not make your customer feel bad for returning defective product. In the future I will buy my Benjamin Moore paint from McLendons, even though True Value is way closer to where I live.

Expensive And Everybody Here Hates You Their business hours are inconvenient, employees are grumpy, and everything is overpriced. Its rare that I go out of my way to recommend a Big Box Store over a smaller chain, but -- yeah, you really would be better served going to Home Depot. Employees at this True Value are so by-the-book that its annoying. I purchased a bunch of CFL bulbs (which come with a "recycling" tax) and brought in my burnt out bulbs to safely dispose of them. I was told they would only take eight of them per visit. I had ten, and they wouldnt budge on that policy. Most people, at that point, just give up and throw them in the garbage. Simple tools, such as hammers, can run you $25! And theyre so inquisitive about when the most basic unopened returns that it could be the plot for a Seinfeld episode. Skip this place unless its more convenient than a trip to White Center. And if you need to make a copy of your apartment key (with the building managers permission), make the miserable trip to WalMart where you can cut them yourself.

Ive relied on Junction True Value since I bought my house in West Seattle nearly twenty years ago. They have a great stock, but more important they have really knowledgeable staff. Ive come to them for paint, plumbing and electrical stuff, garden stuff, misc tools, large and small, all the stuff that a house needs (and came up with a cheap effective fix for my car always fogging up). Theyre always patient and helpful in a way that the staff at a place like Home Depot just isnt. Plus they really are part of the neighborhood. I love being able to support them, because theyve sure supported me with their good advice all these years. We also asked them at one point if they could recommend a handyman, and they suggested someone terrific who weve now used for 15 years.

This review is about Derek and Joe in particular! Have gone to Balder occasionally over the years they always have what I need. Recently needed to have custom window screens made, and experienced exceptional customer service from both Derek and Joe. Derek wouldnt rest until the screens came out exactly right after a mes sup, even though he didnt take the original order, and was a complete pleasure to work with. He really went the extra mile. A+++++!

Extremely helpful staff. Some of their products are not up to snuff. Returned two broken flashlights, and picked up two more, which broke in a week. Alan wrenches that brake when used properly, and by a person with upper extremity nerve damage. Closing at 7pm is immensely inconvenient. Its good that they are five minutes away from the Junction bus stop, otherwise they may become entirely irrelevant to a large swath of West Seattle residents.

Love this store - unlike the big box chains you will have someone asking you if you need help within 5 minutes of entering... not in a pushy way, but in a fully knowledgeable, "I can help you" way. And they can. The knowledge set of the experienced staff is impressive. Everyone is nice here. They pack an astounding amount into a tiny store. Truly a West Seattle gem.

This is the friendliest store! Everyone is so helpful and kind and very, very knowledgeable. Its my go to store as I find everything I need there, from gardening to home repair to just fun things. I love coming up with projects and then going there and throwing my ideas out and getting input.

I always try to support locally owned businesses. Its good yo have a hardware store in the neighborhood that is worth supporting!
