Safeway has been a member of Kelso, Washington for over 30 years (At different locations). However, this is also a problem when Tops was the only other grocery store in Kelso it forced Safeway to have a price war for their customers attention, since Tops left Kelso in 2002 Safeway has had the monopoly in Kelso for groceries meaning that the prices have been slowly raising over the last 15 years. In 2002 I recall the price of a double layer cake from the bakery at a price of $7.99, now its nearing 12 or even 13 dollars, depending on the time of the week. Safeway fails to realize that their competition is winning over their customer base because of the options that they are offering. Walmart, Winco, and Fred Meyers all have installed Self Serve checkout after Safeway led the way in that field, only for them to know take it out and replace them with two "Express isles" which are never open when I go to get some food. There is more I could talk about, its sad to see that Safeway is unable to see how they are losing the current price wars with their competition. The only reason I honestly go to Safeway anymore is to get my prescriptions filled and for the Sweet and Sour chicken. Other then that, I dont do my business there any longer. :( UPDATE 6/12/2017: About two weeks ago they reinstalled the self serve stations, which makes me scratch my head as to why they took them out to begin with. Hopefully, this is a turn around and maybe price drops will be next. Only time will tell. UPDATE 7/3/2017: On 7/1/2017 I went to Safeway to get some dinner, I was checking out the cold deli and they had a cut up sub sandwich priced at $4.00, I viewed this as a deal considering their all american subs are $6.99 so I grabbed it. I headed over to the checkout and when they scanned the UPC it came back at the price of $16.00, I told them that the sign said $4.00. I refused to purchase the sandwich at 4X the price that was advertised. Be careful, if you go to this branch of Safeway, make sure you visually confirm what the price is it seems that they are trying to trick people into paying extremely more for cheap objects. Pros: Self Serve Checkout Pros: Even though I didnt mention it, the pharmacy is decent. Pros: Courteous workers. Cons: Prices too high. Cons: Not enough open check out lanes. Cons: Major graffiti issue, also major panhandler problem. Cant get off the bus without being asked for cigarettes or money. Cons: The day before a major holiday, its hell trying to get out of the store in a decent amount of time. Christmas Eve 2016, at 4pm, they had 3 lanes open on top of the self serve checkout, we only had two items and had to go back to the deli to cash out. Very sad.

Pharmacy is a joke. Had incompetent employees that dont know how to work the computers and yell what prescriptions a person is taking so everyone can hear. Violation of HIPA if Im incorrect. Takes 1 hour for a 6 pill scripts when theres nobody waiting and several pharmacists and techs working. They gab about nonsense while patients are waiting to be seen. 1 lady always gives the wrong medications to the wrong people. And the Hispanic woman refuse to work with patients based on biases in their head. Treats everyone like a drug seeker. Just all around rude and disrespectful employees.

Poorly managed Safeway in my opinion. It is extremely busy and rarely staffed according. Recently they TOOK AWAY the self-checkout. While other grocery stores are listening to their customers needs, this one is doing the opposite. I dread going in this Safeway each time I have to but they are closest to my house. Most times i end up driving all the way across town to have a better experience. I promise to remove this post if you bring back self-checkout. But until then, others need to know what their experience will be like when entering this establishment.

I shop at Safeway to avoid the long lines & bad customer service. Unfortunately at this location I have received worse service than Winco which is a cheaper store to buy groceries. Dozens of times I have used this location and always stuck in line for well over 10-15 minutes. Rarely is there anyone at the customer service desk which is ironic and a great representation of how the rest of the store is. Paying higher prices for Wal-Mart / Winco level of customer service.

It is not a good safeway. Please allow me to explain. Extremely crowded nearly 24/7, no self checkout, rarely more then 3 checkers helping the flow, items take forever to get back in Stock, the store never gets a product in until it is irrelevant. You cant shop without being harassed for money outside the store. And that my friends is just scraping the iceberg. Please shop ocean beach safeway, Fred meyer, target, or winco foods.

Smells like cigarette smoke throughout the store, people using drugs in the open by the cart return and the parking lot is very unsafe with people approaching cars to ask for money who are very aggressive. They have even tried taking my cart while Im trying to load my groceries into my car and even knocking on my window to ask for money!

Most employees are nice and friendly. They seem to be adding more cashiers for the busy hours. I do see that the prices have gone up alot and its not financially possible to shop for staples and stay within our current food budget. You have to use Just for U and coupons to match the prices you get from other local grocery stores.

Great customer service. Brett really helped me out. I dropped and shattered 16 bottles of champagne; they cleaned it up no problem. The only thing i dislike is that the frozen food section smelled like piss. I was really grossed out and had to leave the store for fresh air.

I love this Safeway!! Eric, the manager, is an absolute sweetheart. The store has an excellent selection and the produce and seafood departments are beautiful. By far the best grocery store in Kelso, hands down. Thanks, guys, just keep doing what you are doing! !

Decent wifi okayish table and chairs mostly on the small end but if your using a laptop or macbook it is doable but the bad thing is the power outlets are very poorly placed and can only be accessed via one table, the handicap table.

Love the discounts, the fuel rewards and the fact that they have a fuel station, just wish the fuel rewards points wouldnt expire each month because Im on a low budget and never ecumulate enough points to use for fuel discounts.

My husband went into store and worker in produce was not friendly rude when just wanting to ask a question . He needs a attitude adjustment. My husband shopped there daily for years said he will never shop there again.

I personally agree with Mr. Kangas, Brett was a great help, some of the milk in the fridge smelled like roasting squirrels and was frozen solid, that was the only bad part about Safeway. Good service.
