This place makes me sad for a few reasons. Its got a great location. Its in a nice quaint shopping area. Its got nice parking. Its even large. Has a lot going for it that other game and comics stores dont. Ive been there on two different occasions. Once was little after they moved. The other was a couple of months later. The downside is they dont take advantage of that. Ive called a couple of times before events and Ive gotten bad info. On my first visit, I was greeted by a guy that was not dressed appropriately for working at a retail establishment. Ive run a game store previously for a long time (16 years) and I wouldve sent my staff home for showing up dressed like that. Their cases are displayed in an odd way. Like merchandise isnt located next to other like or themed merchandise which can make it weird or difficult to find what youre looking for. Their layout is a little odd and needs more thought. They really cant see customers or a large chunk of their merchandise the way its setup. It leads to their customers being lost int he shuffle and consequently ignored. Choices theyve made in their layout is weird. Some products people would want to see and read or behind the counter while others that are in arms reach or inconsequential. They could also benefit from some better signage and price stickers. Its a big store that should be drawing well, but it genuinely feels like not enough thought was put in. On my second visit, I also witnessed the staff ignore, or simply not aware, of a situation that was escalating between two customers. Then once it blew up, one customer that was angry and shouting said his piece and walked away, but then the lady in charge (either owner or manager), went over and threatened a customer, which is HIGHLY unacceptable. Personally, Id love to give a store like this some input to coach them up and help them be a much better store, but Im not sure theyd be willing to reach out or even care enough to make change. I imagine this review makes the store sound much worse than it is, but really this store just needs someone to walk through several small things that the ownership isnt aware of. Id also recommend they tour quality store in the greater Seattle area to see what can be done and whats working.

Ive only been here a few times but I have to comment after reading the previous comments criticizing the aesthetic of the place. With the proliferation of comic-book movies, and super-heroes going mainstream, stores in turn have ended up looking more like GameStop or some sort of well manicured corporate chain-run business. The days are almost gone where going into a comic shop is a retreat into a realm where you know you belong, and an opportunity to bask in a world of obscure intrests. Hills of Comics may not be the best laid out for efficiency or feng shui, nor the most stylish of places, but I will say, as someone who has been in and out of most comic shops in the Seattle area since the 1980s, that they do have that feeling of being a "real" comic haven; a holdout against the sanitizing of the comic world. And most of all, just a lot of fun to walk around and see what they have, enjoying that tickling feeling everytime you see an old toy that makes your nerd-senses tingle. I havent done enough business here to say much else, but Ive brushed elbows with the owner at comic conventions in the past (another aspect of the comic world that is completely altered) and he always seemed like a friendly guy.

Disclaimer: This review only handles how the Magic scene is, and does not relate to comic books or other product. They have a lot of cool stuff outside of Magic, but that is not my experience or interaction at Hills of Comics. The FNM experience is not great. Regardless of how many people show up, they will only run 3 rounds. What happens when 35 people show up and 5 people tie with a 3-0 record? Tough luck, roll the dice of tie breakers to see who gets a promo and a fat stack of packs. The pods are always mixed to further muddle the mixture. One step worse, the store was running chaos drafts as their only FNM option the second week after a new set was release , January 2016. The three round limit is especially sad when the store does not have time constraints and stays open long after the draft ends. The casual scene plays EDH for hours after the draft ends. That said, the community is very casual, people are fun to play games with, and its a good experience. The management simply does not see events from the players perspective, casual player or experienced. I would love to play at this store regularly if they ran events that resembled official WotC tournament guidelines.

i have been to this store 2 different times. the employees seemed very nice both times i have felt that the store is way too big for what it has. about half the store is tables for games. i can say is the floor is very uneven and it could be a danger. they have products on most of the walls but most are either. too high or too far a way to see clearly. and the price tags are too small to read from distance. the magic the gathering section has a fair amount of products but physically its too small. its not well organized or priced very well. they say they have magic events. it certainly looks like they have Friday Night Magic. but there was no one there when i was there the entire back wall of the store. is covered in plain boxes full up of who know what. it doesnt look very inviting when i was there the store seemed just sad. this is unfortunate because it could be so much better. with some effort. i cant see myself spending much time here.

What a horrible experience I have ever had. Went in to sell over 40 comics I had now I know as a female Im an oddity in comic world. Now I know alot of the comics I had werent worth more than about 4-5 bucks each but I had about 6 of them worth over $25 each. I also brought in about 200 common and uncommon mtg cards and was offered only $10 for all of it. Now I know that they have to make money also but that was just a slap in the face. I will never go back here and I will tell everyone I know to never step foot near this place. Rude people and try and take advantage of you!

Good selection but i went to buy a comic and the person didnt know the price they then asked the manager who went on ebay and looked up the price and while he was doing that I checked ebay on my phone and he came back can quoted me more then most listings on Ebay. If i wanted to pay over priced ebay prices i would order from ebay. I went to another shop near this one and got the book for half the price Hills wanted. I wont be coming back.

I called this place looking for some dice for a friend. A woman named Michelle answered and was very friendly and helpful. I came in and was immediately greeted by a guy named wolf and a woman named Michelle. I got the items I was looking for quickly and for a very decent price. Staff was friendly and helpful.! This place is very big and roomy and packed full of awesome nostalgic items. Would definitely recommend
