We hired GMC to update our kitchen. The job involved leveling a bar top counter to create a large peninsula, replacing builders grade laminate countertop with granite, and installing a herringbone pattern backsplash with basic 3x6 subway tile. Overall, we are very pleased with the services they performed. Our neighbors used GMC for essentially the same job. However, before hiring them, we did our research. We had two other local companies perform estimates, and GMC was BY FAR the least expensive. If youve read other reviews out there on the company, they range from absolutely horrible (including several cases through the Better Business Bureau) to extremely positive. After weighing all the options, we finally decided to go with GMC mainly because there is just no beating their prices. If you are considering GMC for your project, here is my advice: Learn everyones name and get everything in writing. Gohar is the owner and was very helpful. After meeting with Gohar, I spoke often with Kimberly and Stephany. Kimberly seemed to be the project manager, and Stephany was in charge of finalizing the paperwork. Before I signed the invoice contract, I had them modify the invoice several times to be sure that it reflected ALL of the work that would be performed, even the common-sense things you would assume are included. Dont assume they will perform any work that is not specifically stated in the invoice! Have the work competed at a time when you are able to be at your home everyday, and ask lots of questions. Communication seems to be the biggest issue within this company. The office staff do not always clearly communicate all parts of the job with the professionals who will be at your house. Everyone who came to work at our home was kind and considerate, but often in the dark about what exactly they were supposed to do. Each day that someone came to our home, I walked through the space with them and clarified exactly what they would be doing that day. For our countertop installation, they did not have all of the granite pieces ready to install, but Kimberly rectified the problem promptly apologizing for the inconvenience. For the tile installation, they did not bring the proper bull-nose pieces to finish off the edges, and explained that they were unable to locate them via the manufacturer. This occurred AFTER I had already clarified with Kimberly that I expected the installers to bring all of the necessary tile pieces with them to complete the job the day before. We solved the problem by having them purchase ALL of the tile materials needed from Home Depot instead, and it worked out quite well for us. This issue, along with the previously stated issue with the granite countertop, did mean that it took approximately one full day longer to complete the job than GMC originally stated. The bottom line is, they do pretty decent work for a VERY low price. If your renovation needs are fairly basic, you are on a tight budget, and you are willing to act as a second project manager so to speak, then I would highly recommend choosing GMC. If you have a larger or more intricate job and are expecting HGTV quality, I would recommend saving up and choosing a different company. Be realistic and dont expect a $10,000 job/service for $5,000. Expect issues with communication and anticipate that the work will take longer than originally planned. If you are able to do these things, I think you will have a positive experience with GMC as we did. We are very happy with our kitchen so far.

BEWARE. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND SHADY. The toilettes, faucets and appliances they use along with your granite are NON BRAND NAME so when something breaks, you cant fix them.. you need to buy BRAND NEW ONES. Its like these appliances dont exist (who knows where they got them from). We used this company to redo our bathrooms and kitchens for our house and a few rental properties we had. They have bad customer service through the process but delivered a beautiful product so we were happy... Until about 2 years in when everything started to break in every home. Its been 3 years since they did everything and we have home warranties associated with all the homes. Anytime something breaks - toilettes, faucets or ANY appliance they installed, no part is ever to be found with many of the multiple companies we have used to fix small little things for the appliances. Theres no model number on the appliance or parts. When you call Gohar (the owner) himself, he says that he will fix them, replace them etc. BUT then he just avoids your calls until you give up (I called him for months last year before giving up). Im now on year 3, and two toilettes are running constantly in the same home (its just the flapper for both toilettes so it should be an easy fix). The faucet has a part that came off. No company can fix these items because they dont exist. BEWARE because this is dishonest and they avoid you until you give up!! I called Gohar for the model number and part of both toilettes that are running to get a new flapper, and Im sure Ill never get a call back regardless of how many times I call and beg for such a simple thing that any honest company would happily call you back about. Ive never been frustrated with a company as much as these guys.

I went to GMC for granite counter tops because a friend had recommended them to us as an affordable place. We picked out our counters on a Saturday and they had a guy come out and measure the same day. On Monday we had our estimate. I had read all the negative reviews and decided to get a second bid from a company that got great reviews. When their bid came in $500 higher, I decided to risk going with GMC granite. While there was a scheduling glitch, it was corrected and addressed by Gohar who I dealt with from the beginning of the process. I can say that the office staff may need a little work on their customer service, but I put that in the proper perspective that GMC beat the pants off their competition on pricing. The installation process went smooth. Alex did an excellent job when installing the counters and there were no issues at all. The installation team was respectful of our home and very careful when working around our new cabinets. So, based off the entire experience and the value, I gave GMC five stars. I would say that if you want to pay more, go to the competition and maybe you will have better service. We were on a budget and GMC came through for us with a great price and our counters look fantastic. When you pay top dollar, expect top dollar service. I felt the entire process was well worth my savings and I would use GMC again in the future.

March 5, 2013 - Sthephany contacted me regarding the countertops and forwarded the call to the owner. He was more concerned with my review of his business than actually addressing the problem. From what I can tell, the original issue (not properly installing the countertops to the support lead to the granite cracking). No one had taken the time to actually to schedule an appointment to come and assess the damage and a way to repair/replay. They are despicable, and while he may have been in business for 12-13 years, currently his and his staffs professionalism and competence is non-existent. UPDATE to my earlier review: They NEVER sealed the granite. Weve had the countertops for about two weeks and it is chipping. When I called, they HUNG UP on me 3 times. Completely unprofessional. First assessment of them was spot on. Better off throwing your money out a window and keep the formica countertops. Do NOT trust these people. Not only couldnt they keep to their schedule leaving me without a kitchen sink or counter for a week; they didnt even complete the job. Dealing with this group is a complete nightmare. Do NOT waste your time or money on such an apathetic and lazy group of contractors. You would be better off throwing money out the window or burning it. Completely unsatisfactory.
