Just went there the other day to pick up a sleep system, sleeping pad, and wet weather bag. Pricing Sleep System: USO $135.99 Amazon $199.95 I would not buy one of these from the web, because you cant inspect them to ensure they are complete and there are no holes, broken zippers, or non working buttons. Sleeping Pad: USO $8 Amazon $12-crazy A sleeping pad doesnt have to be complicated, and I am 57 so it doesnt need to be large. Wet Weather bag: USO $8 Amazon $17.95 Again, not complicated and you can also inspect it at the store which is essential in my book. Selection: Wide range of things from military clothes, medals, tools, furniture, props, and probably more. In my opinion you couldnt spend 4 hours at the place browsing around like the other reviewer said. Its pretty straight forward. I would say they have 80% clothing and 20% misc stuff. Quality of products: Make sure you inspect everything before you buy it. I was checking over my sleep system and one of the buttons was not snapping on the bivy cover. They agreed to swap the bivy out with another one that I inspected. A lot of the misc stuff is new in box. The furniture looks to be outdated, but I did not inspect it much. I will say that there was a drafting table that looked fairly weathered priced at $200 which I think is kind of high. Selling Your Gear: I am prior military, but I have not sold any gear to these folks. I will say that in my experience most pawn shops/surplus stores never pay much for gear. I think that its best to either keep it or sell it to someone directly. I unloaded some magazines for $5 each to a good friend of mine, which was a good deal for him. Shops wouldnt give me anything for them, likely because they get a heft supply from elsewhere. Bottom line is, your gear isnt worth much to anyone other than individuals who want it. Employees Attitude: This is primarily why I dropped off 2 stars. I walked into this place and overheard one of the employees talking with a customer about how much they get ripped off by people buying stuff and using it for a day then returning it. I dont want to direct quote him because I cant remember exactly how or what was said but it was along those lines. The owner did greet me and was pleasant; however, I did sense a little bit of resentment in him. This wasnt my first visit to the store and nor will it be my last. In the past they have given me a military discount and been very helpful. I first started talking with the owner about an Alice pack wheel cover to keep my pack dry when I sleep. He was kind of dismissive and acted like it didnt even exist. When I brought the bivy cover to the owners attention he was sitting on his laptop and turned around for an instant to tell me it was okay, then that was the end. I felt that it was a little disrespectful, but I guess he really had to get that Christmas shopping done. The employee that checked me out was pleasant and helpful. Everything these guys have is available elsewhere and even better in some cases. I was specifically looking for a quality sleep system that I trust and know. I accomplished what I wanted and they accomplished a sale. Thats all I have to say about that!

This place hates people who are actually IN the military! I went in the store to unload some of my old Army gear (BDU and DCU stuff we dont wear anymore and was taking up space in my garage). My buddy and I get there and IMMEDIATELY were met with rudeness because we were excercising our right as responsible Americans to open carry our firearms. (were both military btw) We got dirty looks the moment we walked in, I thought this was a surplus store???? The last place I expected to be heckled about open carrying. Anyways, the owner was rude while inspecting my Army goods and kept acting very strange, and it turns out it was because they were stalling for time because they called the police on us. The police informed them that there was nothing going on and that there was nothing they could do and the police were very polite to us as well. The employees and owners on the other hand were jackasses. And to boot, he waited until the police showed up before he told me he wasnt going to buy any of my old gear (what a spineless jerk). It was an all around unpleasant experience. By the way, its not a "furniture store" as they claim, its a lame old building with a sub-par selection of medicore goods at a semi-high prices. The quality of the goods and prices I can deal with, the crap is old and used, fine whatever. But the actions of the employees and OWNER were reprehensible.

It wouldnt surpris me if the good reviews on this page are from the staff/owners. I have been in that location hundreds of times since i was a child no im 28. I agree they have a decent selection at outrageous prices but what surplus store doesnt? Th staff is just weird... they have a facade of friendly and helpfull but you had better not ask too many question and as well i personally wear knives and quite a feww as well and get funny looks and feel as if they just want me outa the store. Th past few times iv know what i wanted and was prepared to pay there prices but due to constant heckling that it wa gettin close to closing i put about 300 dollars worth of gear down and walked out said well sorry to bother you right after they locked the door and told me my time was up... in general i recomend the web now and any questions i have / wanna see it b4 i buy it i plan a day trip to Norfolk just to avoid this place. Wish there were some way to get through to thes people that just caus thier the only one in richmond doesnt mean they need to be jerks about it.

Be warned. Like the other people who have given bad ratings, the guys who work here seem like some real turd burglars. Had a terrible feeling from the moment I walked in, and it continued through my interaction with the owner. I looked around the store and everything is old, overpriced, and if you really want military surplus just buy it on ebay or craiglist. However, I am not really on here to talk about that, I just want to tell would be ex-military who want to unload there stuff and are too busy or short on time to sell it online, do not do it at this location. The people cannot valuate the stuff correctly because they havent been in the military and dont understand what is currently in use or of relevance. I sold most of my stuff online and made a lot of money, but I had to move and had to unload the rest of my schwag. I wish I had made it a point to get rid of it sooner because I really took it bending over dealing with these jokers.

Im in the military and was trying to get a medal for my buddy who forgot his. They were not willing to stay open a minute later for a pair of Marines that desperately needed a medal for a uniform. It was unprofessional that they wouldnt stay open 5 minutes to help us out and were rude about it on the phone. We arrived at their store 1 minute after their closing time and it was locked, lights were out and no one was there, in addition to no staying open, they closed early, even when I told them that I was on my way. I will never give them any business and I am making sure everyone I know does not go to this store.
