I have a Maltipom - cross between a Maltese and a Pomeranian. They have very long hair and often fall victim to matting, so it is normal to encounter groomers that immediately look for such problems to identify the level of special attention that must be applied. Now there are plenty of choices out there of where to go, but this PetSmart had a 50% track record of decent haircuts up until yesterday. Now they are 1 out of 3, and this last haircut was an absolute disaster. I now know to cross this place off my list of reliable groomers, but am so irked every time I look at my dog that Im compelled to warn others. Fortunately for my dog, she is brushed very often and the mats are cut out. The 2 girls working the grooming section even commented on how "Shes great! Hardly no matting!" I explained that I did want quite a bit of length cut off and showed them, dictating "I still want her to be fluffy!" The girl who actually cut her hair at this time said "Well we can only cut down as short as an inch so no worries there." I got a call 2 hours later telling me my dog was ready. When I showed up, the girl warned me "I did find a few mats on her leg so went shorter than I thought I would have to, but she is still fluffy!" My optimism then began a slow drain - it seriously looks like she spent about 5 minutes on my dog with a pair of clippers. What she did cut isnt even, I can tell where the mats are because her hair is right down to the skin. This is a dog that had 5 inch hair length, now all of her hair across her whole body (except her head) is less than 1/4 inch. The "problem area", the legs, are the fluffiest part but the cut is extremely choppy and there are several bald chunks. The rump - omg - looks ridiculous. Im not one to complain but after paying $80 and mulling over the whole experience I became very angry. I called the manager who seemed way too busy to even be bothered with the whole thing. I explained - hey, how about a phone call to let me know you are about to completely shave my dog, so I have the option to come pick her up and take her somewhere else? He offered a refund but gave absolutely no reason as to why I would ever return there for a grooming. Its not about the money - Id like a reliable groomer. Obviously they dont care about providing such a quality service. Pretty Paws in Chantilly provides much more reliable service and tells me ahead of time the potential pitfalls, and *NEVER* (even with excessive matting) has my dog come out looking like a silver rat with a fluffy tail and monkey butt. Very angry every time I look at my dog. Dont make the same mistake I did when you are unable to make a grooming appointment at a proper location - you have only the luck of the draw as to who will do the job for you. I would suggest if you are okay with shaving your dog all the way down, a pair of clippers would be significantly cheaper and you could do a lot better than someone who isnt going to give a crap about other peoples pets.

Im normally not the type to speak highly of a large national chain, the employees at this store have won me over. Ive been there many times over the last 2 months with my puppy and each time they are always smiling, friendly and very helpful. Id almost expect employees at a store to become a little jaded having to deal with all types of pets (rambunctious, possessive, uncouth, and loud) and pet owners (rambunctious, possessive,...) all day long, but somehow of the 20 times Ive been there Ive only experienced happy employees wanting to help you out, pet your puppy and/or offer him/her treats (nice touch by the way). Last time I went there I was looking for a loop for the dog collar (for the dog tags, dog license, ...) since mine broke unexpectedly. The employee grabbed some at the register and handed them to me free of charge "Here take a few, these things break all the time". A few weeks ago, after walking there (2 miles) on a hot day a concerned employee approached me and asked "Does you puppy want some water?" and went to the back to fill up a dog bowl for him. Id also like to say that they somehow keep the store orderly and looking/smelling pleasant even though they get constant traffic of all types of furry/feathered companions all day long (which makes the shopping experience pleasant). Anyways thank goodness I live in walking distance, I have used the Banfield Vet (Good Experience) there as well as the pet grooming (Good but not stellar job)... havent used boarding yet, but the facility seems very well maintained and the people at the desk were very helpful.

I had a really strange experience here. I brought my dog to get furminated one day, and after waiting 30 minutes in line, I finally dropped her off... only to be called 10 minutes later asking me to come pick her up because she wouldnt go in a cage to wait and that she was shaking and scared. I may be biased, but my dog is SO easy to work with if you just mildly patient with her. Also, what?! Do they NOT know how to handle a scared dog??? So I picked her up, annoyed, and rescheduled for an "Express" visit where she wouldnt have to wait in a cage. I was nervous to bring her back, but this time a different groomer Anthony took her from me. I knew he was better immediately because instead of dragging her out back to groom her, he actually took 10 seconds of time to convince her to walk alongside him. When I arrived to pick her up, she was bundled up in a towel at the front grooming desk. He said she was great, that he convinced her to go in a cage and she was fine, and that she was snuggling with/ falling asleep on him during the furminator treatment. AND, her shedding is totally gone! He did an amazing job. She looks like a new dog. If we had Anthony the first time, I would have given this place 5 stars!!! Im definitely asking for him next time.

The only good thing about this PetSmart is that is close to my house but other than that I hate it! The Banfield hospital is okay they always provide a good care to my dogs. The hotel...hmmm lets see they are somewhat ok I left my dog once with them but I wouldnt do it ever again. The grooming salon is not the best they are very picky about your dog breed. Now lets talk about the store, most of the time they run out of certain products. Some staff members are somewhat friendly but some others are RUDE starting with the store manager. Why would you have someone like him in this position when he is very unprofessional and discourteous? PetSmart corporation should take a closer look to this store management. I rather shop at the PetSmart in Sterling where they provide a great customer service although is 20 minutes away.

This review is strictly for the grooming staff. The regular customer service for items is always good here. I would never go here to get my dogs grooming or nail cutting done. The staff was very rude and standoffish. I went in at 7AM so there were not any other customers there. My dog was anxious as this was his first time getting his nails worked on but didnt show any signs of aggression. When I offered to come behind and fed him treats and help they refused. I would understand if I came on a Saturday and there were other customer animals back there with them but it was literally my dog and the two employees. They took my pup down and brought him over to me and didnt say anything. I asked if I should take him on a walk and come back and they rudely said that they couldnt help me and to go to a vet.
