Great bicycle from a great bike shop! Definitely recommend this store. Ive been cycling for nearly 2 years, most of that on a hybrid. As I started to build up the miles (training for my first century next month), I decided to invest in a road bike. Based on recommendations from a friend who is a former competitive cyclist and my own online research, I honed in on a Giant Defy and A-1 Cycling. Headed over to A-1 Cycling (Manassas store) on a Sunday afternoon intending only to do some recon. I ended up buying a 2015 Giant Advanced Defy 2 (on sale for $500 off the list price). The employee that worked with me was extremely friendly and helpful. He was knowledgeable about the bikes and was able to provide me with good information about various makes, models, and features, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of each. He patiently worked with me, answering all my questions and letting me take multiple test rides. I also decided to pay for the bike fit service. A couple days after I purchased the bike, I heard from Colin to schedule the fitting session (FYI, their fit studio is at their Herndon shop). He did an excellent job in working with me to get the bike set up and adjusted to my physiogeometry and riding style. Before starting the fit, Colin asked a series of questions about my riding style, experience, and goals. As he went through the fit, he explained what he was doing (and why) at each step and he also was able to answer the many questions I had about not only the fit and the bike, but also cycling in general. As a relative newcomer, I appreciate when more experienced cyclists share their knowledge without making me feel like a newbie. Ive now got over 400 miles on the new bike and Im loving it! Im consistently up about 1-2 mph and am climbing hills better than ever. More importantly, Im able to complete long rides without excessive fatigue and stiffness I used to get on my previous (not fitted) bike. In addition to the help and service provided during the bike purchase and the fitting, Colin made a point to reach out afterward to see how the bike and fit were working for me. Bottom line is that I had a great experience with A-1 Cycling - both the Manassas and Herndon stores - and anticipate continuing to give them my business. As a matter of fact, Ive already been back in multiple times to get other stuff such as tubes, socks, new helmet, etc. Id say that the total experience I had has engendered a high degree of customer loyalty from me (which should be the goal of any business).

Update 8/2/2016-Jacob called today to apologized and asked what they could do to rectify the issue. Jacob understood my frustrations. We came to an agreement on compensation. He asked if I wanted a full refund but I declined because I still have the parts. I requested just the labor costs be refunded. He agreed. Im upgrading my rating from 1 to 3 stars based on the fact that they reached out to me. Rating still reflects the quality of service I received.Customer service would be rated at 5 stars. Took my custom painted wheels to get spokes. Really disappointed with the quality of work. The paint is chipped in numerous places. It looks like the tools that were used was carelessly banging the rims. When I first brought the rims in I specifically mentioned it were custom painted and to be carefull. It was Colin who built it. Another note is that one rim the spokes length were too long so he ended up having to dremmel the length down which he claimed just marred the paint but he actually grinder into the metal. I was compensated $40 off the $340 price tag which included $75 each wheel for labor, spokes and nipple. $40 is nowhere near the cost of my labor to try and repair the paint damage. This was a very unprofessional job. Feel like I got robbed.

A-1 isnt particularly big or impressive as you first walk in, but its absolutely the best shop in the area. I have been both building up a very old bike and looking for a new one, and in both cases found MUCH more support from this shop than any others (especially ones in Reston/Tysons that start with a "Perf")! I am repairing a bike on my own, and at least three times I have been ignored or up-sold by these other shops. At one point, I simply wrote the whole thing off as it was getting too expensive. However, A-1 each time was able to get me the parts I needed at the price I could deal with (even if that meant slightly used-- good luck getting that at the other shops)! They actually took the time to give me advice on what I was doing, and seemed to place more emphasis on taking care of me (getting me rolling again) than trying to sell me something and getting me out the door. Basically, they have lower prices that all the other local shops, will get you the right level of part (rather than the most expensive), and seem [gasp] actually interested in helping you! I wont be going anywhere else from now on....

Really horrible service, no one in there really wants to work on your bike even when you purchase it from them. It is obvious that there is little supervision at this store. My question to the owners is "Do you have any idea what goes on in your store?" We were waiting to pick up out bike and witnessed a woman bring in alcohol to your facility to someone that appeared to be a minor. As they passed off the 12 pack the employee wet to the back room and you ear him opening the carton then opening the beer. As he passed by smelling of beer and handing off what he didnt want to the lady that brought it to him. Besides that 99% of the time you are told that the shop is too busty to tend to your bike right away or even by the end of that day. Then you see everyone just standing around chatting it up. I know not everyone works on the bikes but there were two people there that worked on my bike in the past and they were just standing around without a customer around. Doesnt seem like a company that wants my repeat business and will never get it again, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

This review is about customer service and not on a bike. I visited this shop last wednesday. There were about 3-5 employees in the front and I was the only customer in the store. I walked around for 15mn before one of them approached and asked if I needed anything. I told them I wanted to look at their rove 3 and vita step through. He said he didnt have any small frame in the store and asked if I wanted to order instead. He didnt speak with me for more than 2mn and asked if I wanted to order the bike. He didnt even show me the other bikes and seemed to not care about selling. I left and went to a different bike shop where the employee took the time to listen to my needs, let me try on different bikes and offered suggestions. They didnt have what I wanted in stock, but after making me feel like a valued customer, they got my business and I ordered my very first bike with them.
