This was definitely a mixed shopping experience. I took my wife with me to help me pick out a beta fish. She found the cats and wanted to hold one. It was the perfect cat -- calm, cute, and small. We have been looking for the perfect cat for months. So we had to have her. Awesome experience. Two women from PetsMart spent an hour helping me pick all of the right stuff. I left my wife smiling and playing with our new kitten. Then the manager, Ana, comes over and says we have to buy a cage to carry the cat in. I didnt want a cage. She said that she would not approve the adoption unless we bought a cage and that PetsMart does not stock cardboard boxes. So I put the cage in the cart. A few minutes later Ana came running over and says that we can not take the cat until our land lord faxes PetsMart a signed letter giving us permission to have a cat. The two women that helped us with the purchase tell Ana that we can take the cat without getting a letter faxed (it was 9pm on Saturday night). Ana sits there in the middle of the store arguing her point for a couple of minutes before giving in and going over to supervise ringing up the merchandise at the counter while I go to the car to get my wallet and my wife plays with the cat and the two women that helped us took her around the store to help pick out more cat toys and explain how to best take care of a kitten. The total cost comes to $205 for the merchandise plus $135 for the cat. A bit much. But we just wanted home and play with the cat. At home, I looked at the receipt. $66 of the merchandise was duplicate charges. Two cages to carry the cat home, two beds, two floor mats for the litter box entry, two brushes, and two scratching boards. So, this morning I went back to the store and explained that I didnt even want one cage, much less two. One of the women that helped us the night before remembered me and what we purchased and started refunding the duplicate charges. Ana comes running over, takes the receipt, and, without even looking at the receipt declares that there are no duplicate charges on the receipt and that the money will not be refunded. I point out that I didnt even want one cage, much less two (surely she could remember that). She started arguing her point with the woman helping me and then turned to me and incredulously asks if I was sure I didnt buy two cat beds (yea, one cat, two matching cat beds!). Another manager tells Ana to go away, refunds the duplicate items, and apologizes for the trouble. A mixed experience -- the best and the worst service Ive ever had in one experience. To break the tie, we woke up this morning to find our little kitten had gone straight to the litter box over night and left us a little poop (Dr. Elseys Herbal Kitten Attract Litter is the best). But Ill have to wait until I hear Ana is getting some retraining before giving out the other four stars.

The 1st and last time I will ever take my dog here for grooming. I called to make an appt and was told it was for 4pm. Upon arriving (15 minutes early), I tell the lady at the desk and she rudely tries to tell me "your appt is for 6, Im looking at it right here in the book", which I could clearly see that the time had been changed because I could see the white out. She called the guy out who made the appt, I believe his name was Anthony, and he apparently has double booked for a 4pm appt (who came in after me) and moved my appt to 6pm without so much as a phone call. He told me that he would get it taken care of and would call me when he was ready for pick up. I finally get a call around 730pm telling me that my dog is being too aggressive and needs to get picked up. I was told that he was "biting and they could not get a muzzle on him because of his aggression". While Ill admit, my dog can be a little aggressive with people he does not know, but Im sure the fact that he was locked in a cage for 3 hours prior to his cut, because of an oversight on their behalf, did not help his anxiety. Not to mention, he weighs all of 20 lbs, Ive seen aggressive dogs 5 times his size get cut and handled properly at other PetSmarts. I go to pick up my dog and not only did he have a half of a haircut, he also had wads of hair just hanging from him, one so long, I mistook it for his tail! It clearly looked as if they did not want to deal with it so they locked him up and moved onto the next. The extra wads of hair could have simply been cut from his body with scissors, as I was easily able to do at home. My pup is 9 months and this would have been his 1st haircut, outside of puppy trims, and this place completely made this experience traumatizing. As soon as I got there, I was sent out the door with a petsmart leash and advice to take him to a vet clinic where he can be sedated and cut, I had to come back to ask for his collar and leash. My advice would be, dont take your dog to be groomed here. If the employees cant handle different behaviors and situations with dogs in a professional manor, they should look for a different line of work. There should be mandatory customer service training, as the lady I interacted with came across rude and as if she was just ready to get off work.

I took my dog here while I was staying in the District a few days over Christmas. I called in early November and was put on a waiting list. First I was told it was 20 people long, but when my husband called later in that day to confirm, he was told it was 80 people long. The woman on the phone sounded sick and tired, and my heart went out to her, but I had to repeat my name, my number, my address, my dogs name, my dogs breed, whether or not he was fixed, over and over again. I was worried that my information wasnt taken down right, so my husband called again that night to confirm. All of the information taken down the first time was wrong. No, my dog is not a cat, and no, I am not a man. So, he re-tells them all of the information, and were on the waiting list. At the end of December we havent heard anything from them so we call. The woman says "oh, we dont have any spots left, but let me go check" so she goes and checks and there is one kennel open. Woo! But, sadly, all of our information is wrong again, including the dog breed, his name, whether or not he is fixed, and my name. So, we get there and the people are really nice and attentive, but again we have to correct them on my dogs name, what type of dog he is (just look at him!) and no, he is NOT fixed! These people are really nice, but they need to either take down information better, or start paying attention to the words their customers say. After telling them information twice they should have it right, but four times is just silly! It makes me really worry for pets who are put there. When our dog got home he was also really tired but acting out aggressively. This may just be the fact that he was cooped up in a kennel for a few days and in a new place and missed us, but hes been in kennels before and has never come home extra aggressive. I dont want to accuse these people of mistreating him, but I do know something was wrong to make him upset. This may be related to the kennel, it may not, but its something I noticed.
