We have traveled around Vermont and New England and we are always glad to come back home, because there is no place like this anywhere. Other Co-ops often have a small cafe with a few healthy items that are hit-or-miss. Montgomerys Cafe is all hits and no misses. The salad bar is innovative and fresh. The food on the Hot Bar is accurately described as "cuisine" since the menu items are chosen and prepared by chefs. The Sandwiches are great but I rarely get to order one since some soup, hot dish, and of course, salad, always seems to catch my eye. I will list a few menu items to consider: The world-famous local "beefalo chili," the "to-die-for" turkey-apricot meatloaf (on Thursdays!), the various vegetarian Tempeh options (usually with an Asian flavor), the turkey salad and curried chicken salad on the salad bar, any of the hearty soups, the many gluten-free options, the quiche!, the breakfast burrito, I could go on... The food store section is very nice with lots of healthy options. The basement section recently opened with great bulk items and a wine cellar. The local Vermont cheeses (stocked near the produce section) are incredible. Every Christmas someone gets me a gift certificate to Newport Natural and I use it in the store or the cafe or both. It is my favorite present every year.

The natural food part of the store is very good,maybe a bit pricey.The problem here is the restaurant located within the natural food store called Montgomerys. If you are going to charge me 7.95 for some kind of mushroom panini at least throw some healthy chips on the plate.Even the little pickle spear seemed kind of old and limp.The service is practically non existent and they charged me an extra dollar for adding Vanilla to my latte and no where on their menu or wall does it say there is an extra charge for this. Nature food store= good Restaurant= bad.

The people who work here including the owner are very unprofessional! They are extremely judgmental of the customers and discriminate against them and other employees as well. I was happy to hear about this place because Im vegan and its pretty much the only place that accommodates my food needs, however, even I will never go back again. I thought they would be more supportive to the rights of equality, nonjudgmental services, and a loving community based store but Ive gotten to know these people and its the complete opposite!

This is one of the highlights of Vermont for me! I am fond of Whole Foods, and this is like that but even more personal. The chocolate cake and carrot cake, the turkey and apricot meatloaf the professional and friendly staff, all super. You can get good organics here. good local food and products, highly recommended. The art is a plus as well.

An excellent find while traveling, especially for vegetarians! The homemade soup, tasty sandwiches, and products available for sale made our stay in this area very comfortable. We often have much difficulty finding veg food on the road ---- thank goodness for this market and cafe!

Favorite cafe in this county. Recommending the Vermonter and the Main Streeter. Great place to do laptop work, meet with friends, or (on occasion) enjoy live music. Humanely raised, vegetarian, and vegan options available. This new kid just started working there whos super nice.

We were the only mid afternoon patrons so service was excellent and the sandwichs were excellent. The next time I go to the Pick and Shovel I will come error for lunch again. It is over an hour drive from my house.
