Background: I had spent hours and hours researching cars that fit our search criteria before settling on a 2016 Mazda CX-5 Touring. I used KSL and other search engines to find cars for sale in the area. The particular car at Utah Used Car Sales was priced at about 15% or $3,000 below what the average was for the same car at all other dealers (and private party sellers) in the area. First Encounter: We went in on a Saturday during prime time but didnt have to wait to have someone help us. Since we already knew what we wanted to look at Lisa quickly got the car for us and didnt try to drag it out by suggesting other cars (although im sure she would have if we wanted it). They let us take the car out for a test drive without anyone from the dealership which in my opinion helps a lot with getting the most out of a test drive. When we came back she showed us what they could sell us the car for, the breakdown of fees and loan information, our trade-in value, then we were on our way. We were in and out in an hour (including the 20 minute test drive). Second Encounter: I came in to go over the inspection and to get the rest of my questions answered. We looked at all the lights, signals, and inside media features to make sure everything was working and in proper order. Even though the tag price was already a great deal, I was hoping to get a little bit better deal. Its important to know that the price the car is listed for is what youre going to pay. They only markup the car a meager margin so they can make a profit and give you the lowest price they can. Even with that said, if you really need it they can make it work. Lee was able to knock off about $400 for me and give me about $500 more for my trade-in than it was worth to make it work for me. Purchase: Tiffany took over at this point and got all our purchase, loan (they are pre-loaded with almost every lender in the area), and registration docs ready, explained everything, and collected all the signatures in about 45 minutes. By this point it was already about an hour past their normal business hours but they still helped us to get everything done quickly and all at once so we could leave with the car that night. Our second visit including questioning, negotiation, and purchase took less than two hours. Buyers Delight (opposite of "buyers remorse): We have had the car for a month and a half now and loved it. We were informed after buying the car about some other perks that come with the car. Each friend we refer that buys a car from them pays $100 [If this review convinced you to buy from Utah Used Car Sales, give them my name so I can use this benefit :]. In addition, they offer their dealership retail discounts for all their supplies (tires, body work, mechanic work, etc) and its not even limited to the car you purchased, it can be used for any vehicle you own! We are taking advantage of this right now at a body shop. Unfortunately the vehicle we bought was involved in a minor accident before we bought it and the body repair work was sub-par and now the door skin has slipped off, causing paint to come off the edges. We got an estimate from a body shop we heard great reviews about and their estimate was $2,200. We called Lee to get his dealership discount and now we are getting the same work done for $400 through his guy. The problem had nothing to do with the dealer and there really was no way they could have known (they got the car through an auction in a California and the problems only came about once the Utah weather began to take its toll). Loved everything about our car buying experience.

My spouse and I like to try and support small, local businesses as much as possible and so we decided to visit this dealership after viewing a car in which we had interest on KSL. Upon seeing the vehicle, we immediately discovered that all of the advertised "extras" such as the navigation system and "premium sound system" that had initially brought us in to view the vehicle, were aftermarket parts that had been added by the previous owner. The aftermarket status had not been disclosed in the advertising. However, knowing as we did, that car dealerships are rarely honest anyway, we let it slide and continued to test-drive and inspect the vehicle, after all, we justified, it still seemed like a fair deal and we decided we could replace the aftermarket parts ourselves later on. We thought we were doing everything right (we even took the vehicle to a third-party mechanic for inspection) and ultimately decided to purchase the vehicle. Things to note about the "purchase negotiations": they wouldnt budge on price, at all. Lee went into the familiar salesman "spiel" about how they were different than other dealerships and therefore couldnt “afford" to lower their price. After about an hour-and-a-half he knocked off, what I believe was about $80 for not receiving their 3-month Powertrain Warranty (which we were told didnt really cover anything anyway). They also pulled the “other people are very interested in this vehicle” stunt (which whether or not that is the case, is always tacky to pull). But I digress, here is the main reason we felt the need to write this review and warn others about this dealership. Within about 1 1/2 weeks of purchasing the vehicle, we experienced problems with the transmission and starter--both pricey fixes. We also noticed other more irritating issues such as the backup lights not working, a missing donut and the wiring had been tampered with during the previous owners "aftermarket installations", so that the interior dome lights didnt work, nor the radio (upon test-driving we initially thought we just needed to tinker with the radio in order to get it to work as the system that had been installed was fairly complicated--turns out it truly didnt work at all). After contacting the dealership to address these issues, Lee basically told us that his “hands were tied” and there was nothing he could do. He did give us the number of someone to look at the radio, which turned out to be a wrong number—whether or not that was intentional, we do not know, but after our previous experiences with him we can’t help but wonder. We understand that buying a used vehicle is an “AS-IS” purchase, but weve never encountered a dealership that showed absolutely no integrity in standing by their vehicle so soon after a purchase. We unfortunately cannot recommend this business to anyone and will not be returning ourselves.

Over the past few months my husband and I have been looking for a new car for me. Honestly I have never been car shopping before and had no idea what to expect. We had visited several car dealerships over the last few months and have not been impressed to say the least. We would drive up to lots and instantly would be run down by 5 salesmen in 5 different directions. I felt like I was being chased down by zombies to be honest. We were even approached by one salesmen who was smoking right next to the front door to the dealership, so unprofessional. So when my husband told me that we were getting up one morning to go look at yet ANOTHER car from yet ANOTHER dealership I was very skeptical and not excited. It wasnt until we pulled into the lot and immediately saw the car that I started to change my opinion on car shopping. We were not "attacked" by salesmen nor were we overwhelmed with the amount of rows of cars to drive through while looking for the "ONE" car that we found online. Thats not to say that they didnt have an excellent selection of vehicles, because they did, we were just in the market for one specifically. The rest of the day proceeded as normal, test driving the car, talking to a few different salesmen about the car and about how their dealership works and how they are so different from all others as well as signing papers and getting the transaction done. Their service was excellent and they were not pushy whatsoever nor did they try to pressure us into a warranty which we were not interested in. Now, once the car was signed for and final, that is where the real service happened. Unfortunately, as we were attempting to drive the car off the lot the battery completely went kaput and the car would not start. When this happened, there was no hesitation on their part to get the car running and even get a new battery. Their partner that they use for batteries and whatnot were actually closed. What they did for us COMPLETELY set them apart from any dealership out there or company as far as customer service is concerned. They gave us a gift card and keys to another vehicle and said, go grab some lunch, drive one of our cars and when you are back your car will have a new battery! WOW! Hows that for some AMAZING customer service. I have been in the Customer Service industry for almost 10 years now and still am and hardly ever see companies do anything compared to that for their customers. All I can say now is; GREAT customer service, GREAT vehicle and GREAT overall experience. Thanks Utah Used Car Sales for everything! Keep it up! (And if I can recommend anything, go on a Saturday and talk to David, Lee, Tiffany and (sorry, didnt know his name) Man-Bun)
