Friendly, nice, and helpful employees make the experience at Recreation Outlet. I love local businesses, and do everything I can to support them. However, I wont be returning to Recreation Outlet until they price their products according to a standard that isnt an absolute and total rip off. After returning home from shopping for some sleeping pads, I quickly found out that those same pads were priced (pretty much anywhere else) at more than half that price. The sleeping bag I almost bought was also had a 50% price hike above every other store I researched. Ripping off local customers is not a way to keep your brick and mortar in business.

The only reason I didnt put 5 stars is several last years Ive come in, some employees were rude whenever I asked for a deal. This last time I was buying a bulk order of like 6 sleeping bags and they only gave me 5% off, so I still ended up spending seriously over $100 dollars. I asked if they could do lower because my finances are bad in the bad economy, and they rudely told me to buy the cheaper ones which were crap. I bought the first ones but wouldnt have if my trip wasnt coming up. 15 years ago, I could of got bags for like 15 bucks a piece. Waaay expensive now, especially for just a blanket sown together with a zipper.

First experience with the store today, and Im definitely hooked. Went in to see if they could help me repair a broken tent pole. The employee was very cool, and spent 10 minute helping me restring the cord through my 20 foot collapsible pole. Cost for the cord and 10 minutes of his time? $2.70. Of course after that kind of service I had to buy some more stuff :) I will definitely be back, great store with great service.

Patrick and Caleb and the other staff are so helpful. They seem to really enjoy helping you get exactly what you need. Patrick recently worked with me to get me the perfect trekking poles for my needs at a decent price. And they price match, so I will always try to support this local business which is an asset to our community. I love having this specialty store with great gear here locally.

The service standard has gone way down in the last year or so. The employees are no more knowledgeable than you would be spending 30 seconds on the internet. Their prices are no longer as competitive as they used to be unless you are buying their china knock off brand. When told they would give me a 10% discount they backed out of it at the counter. I wont be back.

I am absolutely in love with this store! It is worse for me now than Toys R Us was for me as a kid. The salesmen are friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, are looking to sell what is best for you, not necessarily what is best for their commission. Ive been to many different outdoor stores but always come back. The prices and customer service is unbeatable!

Great Prices on Outdoor Gear. Mostly equipment for camping, backpacking, snow-sport, climbing, etc. Some of the best prices in Utah if you shop the sales. Their return policy is not nearly as good as REI but the prices are cheaper. Nice to have a good local store with good service, great prices, and occasional awesome sales.

I went in needing to get totally outfitted for a big trip coming up. I was there for 2+ hours! The sales people were wonderful. They price match and so they were very patient as I looked up each item to find better deals, and then they matched them! They were very knowledgeable about the gear. I love this place!

Sometimes Im super happy when I leave the store, others in really disappointed. Almost all the clothing I found was XL and they dont have a great selection when it comes to specific things like climbing gear. But you can sometimes find a good deal there and the people are awesome so still worth stopping by.

The American Fork location is very clean and organized. Staff is super knowledgable and willing to negotiate if youre buying in bulk (3 tents for me) or have competitor coupon for similar items. I always find something and their pricing is the most inexpensive around for the best quality. Love this place.

Good spot to find deals on all of the essentials for being outdoors. Not as much selection as the Salt Lake store, but hey what can you expect with the building size. Sometimes things can be a little messy, just lots of stuff all over the place. But overall definitely worth a stop in!
