Eat at the hot food bar or Deli counter for all meals of the day, pick up great snacks for parties, or have your next event catered. While those with dietary restrictions of all kinds will rejoice, even omnivores (like me) will get their fill here. The Southern fried pop-corn tofu is a crowd pleaser no matter whose popping them. Try them in a po-boy with the cashew tamari dressing. It is more than satisfying, its a genuine craving of mine. The dressing can be bought in its own bottles in the grab-n-go cooler, along with the olive or green chili hummus and lots of other great snacks that can make for a complete meal. My standard grab-n-go lunch is a couple of quinoa corn patties topped with a fresh sliced avocado I grab from Produce, and some Yellow Bird hot sauce. You can buy all of your accompanying drinks too, from local craft brews to kombucha to cold-brew coffee - and dont miss out on their fountain lemonade and auga frescas over by the pastry cabinet. Their vegetables all come from local farmers, as do many other staples. Thats not to say the selection is slim here. They stock all your favorite conventional foods, bulk items like beans (incl. coffee), rice, nut butters, spices, and flours of all varieties, plus homeopathic supplements, and home sundries too. This store is literally what Whole Foods based their business plan on before moving away from the co-op model. But the beauty is that you dont need to be a member here (it will get you some savings and dividends throughout the year though). The meat counter is definitely a bit lacking and/or pricey given that they source from small producers, and the prices overall can be a bit higher than other places. But the fact that they pay their employees well, give them a say in how the business is run, and many of them seem to stick around long enough to know their clientele by name for years, I personally dont mind paying the difference for the mission and convenience of the neighborhood store. This is also the only place in town where I can get my plain Hansens soda in a 6oz can size! perfect for cocktail mixing.

I have lived in Austin a long time & have shopped regularly at HEB, Central Market, and Whole Foods. After visiting the south Wheatsville location, I have switched to shopping here most of the time. The store has a pleasant, up-to-date atmosphere without the incredible crowds & sometimes overwhelming size of the other stores. Staff is always friendly & helpful. Produce prices for organic & local fare tend to be better than WF or CM (and better selection of organic & local produce than HEB). Meat/fish prices tend to be higher but there are always specials. If you are a member (which I am), there some great owner deals prices; I also really like the "co-op basics" no-profit-margin pricing for grocery basics. The organic milk I buy is about $2/gallon cheaper than at CM or WF (cant recall HEB price right now). I have had mixed results with produce quality--just take care to pick it out. Nice bulk section for spices & grains. There are a lot of good choices for locally raised meats, although they can be pricey. They sell a bunch of types of bones from a freezer case, if you want to make stocks/broths or feed your dogs raw bones. I dont buy much of the pre-prepared food but the bakery goods are great.

Wheatsville is a really nice store that carries a ton of great items that support a healthy lifestyle. Staff is always pleasant and the store is clean and well-organized. Prices can be a bit high, particularly in the supplements (I purchased one at Natural Grocers that was $21 vs Wheatsvilles $33 recently), but the convenience of being able to get such a diverse array of high quality products in one place is a decent tradeoff. One weird little gripe I have with this store is that their produce is always extremely... wet, both in the cooler with the sprayers and just from condensation in the store - so apples have condensation in between each other when you pick them up and things are just prone to mold quite quickly. They do keep this area extremely clean and well stocked though, so its not the fault of the produce people, they do a great job (aside from maybe the sprayers bringing down heavy rain in the greens section?). Still I am a happy member of this co-op and do a large amount of my shopping here!

I love the Co-op. After moving to the apartments across the street just a few months ago, I have gone to Wheatsville no fewer than 40 times, mostly because of the deli. Sure, they have a lot of vegan items, but they do serve some excellent meat-based products like the Italian sandwich and of course the tasty chicken salad sandwich. Of my 40 or so visits, I purchased one of these two sandwiches on 30 or more occasions, and I will continue to do so until I move. I do not prepare my own food very often, but those who do should know they recently expanded the entire store and now sell a ton of new products (most of them organic or locally-grown!).

I do not see the benefits of the membership. I used to belong to a co-op in my hometown which gave us our share back when we moved. Wheatsville does not do that. I do however like the fact that I can still shop there without being a member. I like their selection and their deli is always fun to pick stuff up from too. Their prices are a bit more than other places but if you pay attention to their sales and have coupons it is not that bad. Dont forget to bring your own grocery bags, they will give you a 5 cent reimbursement for every reusable bag used.

Wheatsville is my neighborhood happy place! I enjoy the size and layout of the store - I can get all of my shopping done for the week in 20 minutes! Their deli upgrade is really great with lots of different options for different diets. The staff is super friendly. I enjoy walking in to a local business and feeling the community environment theyve cultivated. Its been my go-to grocery store for about 5 years now and I cant imagine doing my grocery shopping any where else! Good selection of local, organic products too.

This place is great. Their produce department is beyond amazing. With all the organic produce that is actually less expensive than non-organic elsewhere! Their deli department also has the best food and kindest staff. Katy at the deli is such a kind and patient person who once spent about 15 minutes of her break time with a customer to help her get all the ingredients and measures for a taco that they had ordered! Speaking of taco.. try their fish tacos. Well.. try all of their food. Youll be hooked!

Its been twenty-five years since I moved from Austin, and during that time I have never stopped wishing I could still shop at Wheatsville. I visit a few times a year, wistfully wishing I could make it my main base, because at Wheatsville the dollars I spend buy more than food. The store has always provided an important outlet for local and organic suppliers, so when I shop there, my dollars vote for an economy of sustainable food while buying the freshest, most delicious products available.

I really enjoy going to Wheatsville and have been an owner since 2007. They have some unique products not available at the other health food chains and everyone is generally very friendly. I like to see the wide variety of local items and small artisan products. The fact that they dont have tabloid magazines at the checkout is so important to me (Thanks for protecting my childs innocence). The popcorn tofu poboy is awesome. I cant wait for their new location on South Lamar!
