After long being on the "list of places to visit when in Austin", I finally had an opportunity to shop at the Austin Wine Merchant, and what a special treat it was! The store is wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling packed with an incredible array of selections, blending new and old world producers. During my visit, I stuck mostly to France (with a smidgen of Italy), and came away with a mixed case of some very hard-to-find Burgundies. Top honors to the staff as well -- during my visit I had not less than five different people kindly ask if they could help me in any way. I also watched them as they helped other customers in a very down-to-earth manner (wine shops can attract a high-brow attitude, but these folks are super-nice and friendly). This shop is worth the drive. No doubt about it.

This is simply one of the finest wine shops I have been in. And the more time I soend there the more amazed I am. They have really hard to get wines from wineries that are allocation only - like Reynvaan and Arnot-Roberts, and quality bottles from both well known and more obscure wine regions, along with main stream wines you eould expect. And the staff has outstanding knowkedge of their stock and are truly helpful in understanding whst they have. Only negative would ve that the store is packed with wine. Dont be afraid to ask for help finding what you are looking for. Highly recommended!

The Austin Wine Merchant is my go-to place for wine and has a good selection of spirits as well. I typically let them select wines for me based on past likes and dislikes and have never been disappointed. Give them a heads up on price and types of wine and pick up a couple of bottles or a couple of cases on your way home. They will carry the boxes out and keep a database of purchases so reordering is easy. I almost forgot to mention that they have parking downtown. It could not be easier to pick up wine or spirits on the way home from downtown.

I just cant help myself. I love looking for interesting local products while traveling. I took home some Austin made bitters and shrubs. I was tempted by Spanish vermouth that was imported to San Antonio. I saw Sutton Cellars vermouth and Vin de Noix (which is sold out most places here in its local San Francisco) on the shelf. I bet there were some whiskies I would have wished I had room to pack home with me. A nice solid store.

The most fantastic wine store around. The Austin Wine Merchant has an amazing selection and provides excellent customer service. No matter if it is your first time or 100th time visiting they provide a top notch experience. John is a wealth of knowledge and his recommendations are superb for any budget. I especially appreciate his eagerness to find wines that I love and fit within my budget. Five stars all around!

This is my favorite liquor store in the city. Its certainly not the biggest, so if you are looking for Jack Daniels by the gallon, go to Specs. However, they stock a large variety of cocktail bitters and vermouths, and they sell harder to find amaros and liqueurs. They also have some great deals from time to time on clearance stuff. Last time I was in, I picked up Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur for about $5 off.

The staff is very educated about their wines, friendly, and helpful. I appreciated that I came in with a budget, and they only recommended wines that were below that budget. No up selling here which I greatly appreciated. They also have a beautiful selection of wine glasses and decanters.

When Im not buying wine at my wine shop, I come to Johns shop, the Austin Wine Merchant. A true staple in Austins wine scene. His team know wine and operate in an unpretentious fashion. They are completely willing to educate the beginner and fully service the pro collector. A+ operation.
