I came here to get my first tattoo. Since Im 18 and have somewhat overprotective medical parents, they wanted to come too. They did not approve of my decision to get one, but the artists there even made my parents comfortable with the situation. The first time I went in, just to scope the place out, I talked to Jack about setting up an appointment for a couple of days later. He was extremely helpful, showed me the books of the two artists that were possibilities for me, and did not let my parents questions get to him. He told me to come in a few hours before Id get tattooed and talk to the artists about fitting me in. When I came back to talk to Royce, the guy I wanted to tattoo me (definitely a good pick on my part, he is amazing), the artists from before actually remembered me, a nice little point in my book for customer service. I recognized Noska from the site and the reviews, he actually got my parents to laugh, which helped the awkwardness of the situation a lot. I felt like a complete dork, a teenager who couldnt do this without her mom and dad (of course, I wanted to, but that was our compromise), but none of the guys there made a big deal out of it. Royce went over everything with me while he was setting up, the sterilized needles, the process, what it would feel like, etc. The whole time he was tattooing me, he talked to me about random stuff, kept me laughing. I got embarrassed again when I had to ask him to stop- I hadnt eaten all day. He just made me laugh about it, got me some water, and finished up when I was ready. It was a simple tattoo that a family member had drawn for me, so it didnt take long at all and there honestly was no real pain; the worst it got was a sort of acheyness when he started on my collarbone. The price was way better than I expected, and the people there made me feel comfortable and welcome. All in all, they were above and beyond anything Id hoped for. I now have my first tattoo (hopefully of many) and it could not be more perfect.

I have gotten 2 tattoos by Jack now and i love them!! The colors he used are still bright and beautiful almost a year later and not only did he do a wonderful job with the tattoo itself, but he is a great person, he is very patient and makes sure it is exactly what you want no matter how long it takes. He understands that a tattoo is permanent and will do really whatever you want - like reapply the stencil a dozen times until it is what and where you like ;) If it is your first - second - or 100th tattoo...you havent had the experience you should have when getting one till you get one by JACK!! The shop itself is small and intimate - VERY clean and well kept. It makes you feel very comfortable! And there is parking in from of the building and all along the street that runs right behind it - easy to get too and there is some fun stuff to do around it if you have to wait a little bit :) Everyone else that works there is really pretty nice to - they dont give off the arrogant "If your not here to spend bunches of money im going to ignore you" attitude. They all care whether your tattoo is a tiny heart on your ring finger or huge side piece... GREAT VIBES from this place! I recommend this place to ANYONE and EVERYONE that asks or doesnt asks...if you want real body art this is place to go! I have seen many of the artists work and unlike most places that graggggg out the process so they can charge you for more hours - I have NEVER seen ANY artist at Southside Tattoo do that. You are in and out and the prices are VERY FAIR! You get wayyy more than you pay for!

My brother was in town for an impromptu weekend, and we decided that we “needed” to get tattoos in memory of our late but very dear grandmother. She was our world, so these tats had to be just right. I went with something in her handwriting on my arm; Jack did it perfectly, adding just a small change to make it perfect. I could not be happier. My brother decided to get a larger Celtic cross with his own twist. Royce worked with him to draw out exactly what he wanted, executed it amazingly, and even charged less than we expected. Being sxsw weekend I was really not sure walking into a shop on S. Congress was a good plan, but these guys exceeded every expectation I have for a tattoo artist. Clean, professional, honest, amazing artists but they also had us laughing with their jokes, which made the time more enjoyable. I also watched as they calmly explained to some people making that drunk tattoo bad decision why they may want to sleep on it, and still stay calm as people rudely demanded next to impossible requests (like a hand-sized tattoo for under twenty bucks and in thirty minutes). I can’t say enough good things about this place, seriously, quit searching, this is the place you want.

I personally have not been tattooed here but I know a few people that have and I have hung around while a friend was getting inked. They didnt seem to care too much about hygiene. The place is a bit grungy and I know that isnt necessarily saying much for a tattoo parlor. One of my friends was getting a older tattoo refilled and updated. The artist didnt really discuss much of what he was doing and start inking away. The end result didnt look bad initially. Within a few days, their were gaps and wear in the color. The artist apparently didnt go dead enough meaning the technique and quality wasnt there. My friend had another appointment to finish up but didnt go. No one ever called to see where he was or if he was going to finish the work.

Southside is a great shop, and Eric is an excellent artist. He has completed one sleeve for me, and we are currently working on the other arm; I would not have gone to any other artist after working with Eric. Eric is very dedicated to his craft; he takes time to work with his clients to make their thoughts and concepts tangible and into exceptional pieces of art. Eric takes pride in his work/art, and it is demonstrated in his demeanor and work ethic. He can joke and laugh with the best of them, but he takes his craft very seriously. I would not choose another artist in Austin, or in any other city for that matter, for future tattoos. If you want the best, give Eric a call.

I went in with an image idea and a semi-selected location for my first tattoo. Eric Anderson answered all of my questions and gave me great suggestions to help me to finalize my decisions. A week later and several visits to other shops later, I went back and sat for my tattoo. I never felt uncomfortable or pressured into anything I didnt want, and I never got any tattooer tude from any of the shops artists. I cannot say enough good things about this place, and Eric Anderson did a really beautiful and delicate interpretation of my idea.
