Where to start? How about... these folks will rip you off blind if you are not careful. Case in point: I work on all our cars; Ive done this for years. I recently replaced the radiator on my sons 2000 CRV back in March. Unfortunately the radiator turned out to be a dud and sprung a major leak just 3 months later. If that was not bad enough, I live in Austin and my son is up in Dallas between semester at school. He was on his way hoe from work and the radiator blew. He took it to the nearest shop which turned out to be Pep Boys on Cooper Street. I shuddered when he told me that but it was Memorial Day weekend and they were the only place to have mechanics working on Saturday. My son called me with the estimate - "it;s really bad" he started out. "It needs ball joints, rack & pinion steering, tie rods, new radiator, a fan, an alignment and there is an oil leak of unknown origin." But you pulled in with a radiator leak, lets focus on that shall we? I spoke to one of the guys on the phone and told him to replace the radiator and fan - skip the rest. "Okay sir" - click. I told my son if it is over $300 to call me. Why did I say this? Because I know what it takes to fix and I know what the parts cost. ~$100 for the radiator and ~$60 for the fan, add in an hour of labor, tax and shop supplies and we should be right at $300. Dont take my word for it on the price of the parts.. PepBoys web site shows the CRV radiator for like $110. Next day I get the second call from my son. $823 but with their generous discount they will bring it down to $770. $770 for a radiator and fan. Let me say something - I know exactly how long it takes, because I had just done it; and I am not an ASE Mechanic. The fan has to be removed to take out the radiator so there is no additional labor for that step. It is a very quick and easy job to do. This explains my frame of reference. I went ballistic on the phone and stood my ground. To make a long story short, I got them to drop the price to $550 - and even this price is too high. $823 > $770 > $550 for a $300 job. I can not be any more blunt than this - they will take advantage of the ill informed.

THEY HAD PINK WINDSHIELD WIPERS!!!! I FREAKIN HATE PINK!!!!!!! Oh, and my teenager bought some stuff to fix his car but he thinks he knows more about Gremlins than I do even though Ive literally been working on that same Gremlin for over twenty five years. Look, kid, you were conceived in the passenger seat after a drunken night at some club that all the soldiers frequented (including your dad... WOO!!! BRAVO COMPANY!!!), so just sit the hell down and let me fix the damned Gremlin, OK? Just... gawd. Are all teenagers like this? So much pink. WHY PINK????? SPOILERS: He cut the metal fuel line a *weeee* bit too short, so then, naturally, it leaked at the flange connection. ~sigh~ Oh, right, the store. The staff were wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable, malleable, impressionable, loyal to a fault. They will serve me well, marching ahead of our forces, crushing any who oppose my will. ~ahem~ Sorry. Lovely staff. I look forward to visiting this store again soon. My only actual complaint is that they changed over from selling massive testosterone fueled wheel chocks to these wimpy little red plastic things. My Vic had crushed just such a pair that morning, hence my grudging attendance spent listening to all the "sweet mods" my oldest spawnling was convinced would be easy and trouble-free. HAHAHAHAHA. Good luck, kid. What else can I say? Its Pep Boys. They had a Supernatural windshield sun blocker. That was pretty awesome even though I didnt buy it. Kind of regretting that decision now. #TeamDestiel

My front struts needed replacement, so, I called a local shop, this Pep Boys and another chain store for a quote. Courtney gave me the best deal, so, I made an appointment for Friday @ 8:00 a.m. two days in advance. Even though, I was there 15 minutes early, a line was forming and the phone was ringing off the hook when my technician, Raul, took my keys. Shortly after starting the job I was soon faced with the "what lies beneath" reality, I somehow managed to overlook. My car is 16 years old and parts wear out. I get that. The work had to be done, period. Jose, the asst. service manager, ended up crunching numbers and doing what seemed like magic tricks to keep my budget from running a muck! He was juggling other customers at the same time, by the way. The job took an extra day due to them having to hunt down a major structural part that ground the job to a halt. I thought I was only gonna find in the "auto graveyard". Ive got more time than money, so, no big deal. In the end, my car got the service it needed at a price I could afford. My car ran like a champ prior and now, it handles like one too. Maybe I got lucky, but, I doubt it. I found the people I dealt with to be friendly, sincere and super helpful.

We had our car towed to this Pep Boys due to a dead battery. We were told it was a dead battery and that it needed to be replaced. Ok no problem there. They said after they put the battery in that they would check and make sure the alternator and starter were ok. We picked up the car and was told the alternator and starter were fine. This was on Friday the day after Thanksgiving. On Sunday night after my boyfriend got off work he tried starting the car. It would not start. Had to call our insurance for assistance. Waited over an hour for the man to tell us that we were given a BAD battery. He checked the alternator and said there was nothing wrong with it. And the battery already was looking corroded. So now we have to take the car back to get another battery. We spent almost $200 for a battery that is bad. Do not go to this Pep Boys. Well to add something else. We just called Pep Boys and they said it couldnt be the battery. We said that the alternator and starter were checked and they are ok. So they told us to bring in the car. Kind of hard to do that when it wont start again. And at work. We think they know its a bad battery and just dont want to take responsibility for replacing it.

Never again! I made an online appointment for 9am on a Sunday morning for an oil change. I was pleased to see the option to make a appointment...and thought a Sunday morning would not be too busy at PepBoy. I was there almost an hour for a simple oil change. When I checked in at Pep Boys, I told them I wanted "regular" oil - not synthetic. I had a $19.99 coupon to use. However, when they finally rang me up, the total was $65. I asked why the bill was close to $75.00 and was told that my car used synthetic oil only. This was the first time I had the oil changed in the "slightly" used FIat I had bought 3 months earlier. I was shocked to hear that this car runs on synthetic oil only...and that no one at Pep Boy took a minute to tell me that my bill would be close to $75.00 instead of $20.00. Very very disappointed in the service at this facility. I will go back to changing my oil myself.
