Other than their over priced anything and everything you can get at Wal-mart, their understaffed, under trained, and over paid grooming department has to take the cake. I live in the wonderful little town of Lehighton and wanted to use them for my dogs grooming needs. So, I did what every red blooded american would do and decide to give them a ring to see if they could handle my dog. I had called at around 9 Oclock in the morning first time no one answered the phone in the whole store, so i decided to call a second time to see if it was just a fluke. The receptionist answered finally after the eleventh ring and said she will have to put me on hold. While waiting on the grooming department to pick up the receptionist answered two other times saying please hold. I finally got fed up with it and loaded the dog into my car and made the trek down to speak to a person face to face. After the 45 min ride to get there I walked in to find the grooming secretary picking up the phone and telling customers sorry they were booked for the day. After the other secretary was done with taking the short hair dog back for his $80 bath she smiled at me and asked if she could help me. I said to the person behind the counter that I was sorry for coming all the way down there that they were all ready booked for the day. And I wouldve liked it very much if they had picked up the phone so they couldve told me that and I wouldnt have waisted my time, money, and gas to come all the way down there. Then they jumped and said they had appointments in the afternoon and they could book us then. However, we didnt have the dogs shot record, and that wed have to have that in order for him to be seen. So we made the 45 min trip back home and then back to Allentown/Whitehall to make his appointment on time. We took the dog in, and got everything settled. He was a little skittish, but eventually went back behind the gate with the groomer and we left. Not five minutes later, our phone rang telling us they wouldnt be able to work with him, that he wasnt letting them touch him, and that he was trying to bite them. So we turned our car around and came back. When we arrived, he was calm, collected, and allowing them to pet him and touch him. But they claimed when they tried to pick him up, he would "freak out and just spazz." So after 5 45 min trips, our dog is still ungroomed, and we are not happy.

Today at 3:00 I had an appointment with the Whitehall Petsmart on 2180 MacArthur Rd to have my dog groomed. I have been there many times before and always came away satisfied with the service. Unfortunately today they asked me a question I’d not heard before, “Is your dog sedated”? Usually I’m asked about medical problems, tick treatments, and that sort of thing. Never this though. I was confused, but answered truthfully that I had given my dog a Benadryl beforehand because she gets very anxious during the visit. This is something I‘ve done multiple times before and it was never an issue. Nevertheless, I was refused service because apparently it is in their policy not to work on sedated dogs. I asked to speak to the manager, because again, I had never heard this before and was frustrated at having been informed in this manner. The manager came in and I told her this was the first time I’d been asked this. She was polite but still firmly declined. I’ve worked in sales for many years, I was frustrated with the answer, but I understood. I would have come away from the experience upset but still a returning customer, but one of the groomers pretty much told me I was lying about not knowing this policy. I can’t even fathom what would possess an employee to accuse a customer of lying to their face, but I’m furious. Obviously if I were a liar, I would have, you know, lied about the Benadryl. Mix-ups and misunderstandings are one thing, insulting your customers who have done nothing wrong is another. Sadly, the manager didn’t step in and reprimand the employee, either. The entire experience just kind of blows my mind. Ive seen people at my job written up for far less.

I just read this review on another site "Pet Smart in Whitehall Pa killed my pug yestday morning. We took him in for a nail clipping. About 15 minutes later we received a call that he went into cardiac arrest. Everyone knows a dog doesnt go into cardic arrest unless hes in poor health which he wasnt. When we got there they were working on him to bring him back. He was blue from suffocating . He was already dead. When i walked in the girl that usually cuts his nails was there. At that point Pujo told his own story. I always ask her to hold him under his chest to do his nails. They chose to hold him in a choke lock. They killed him by lack of oxygen. My husband felt his neck and it felt like it was dislocated. We took pictures every last nail was cut with yellow powder on it from cutting his nails to low. And his tongue was hanging out of the side of his mouth. Which means they finished cutting all his nails yes. But then he went limp for no reason? No they held him in a head lock for 4-5 minutes without him being able to breath. I want justice for Pujo. My heart is broken into 1000 pieces and no money will ever replace my love. The two girls that killed Pujo will have to deal with this in their own way. I trust in god he is now in his hands. Please pass this along to everyone you know. I dont want one more person to go through what i am going through. Thank you all and god bless!" Just awful!

Several years ago I called their grooming dept. and asked if they could perform the hand-stripping necessary for terrier breeds. They said yes, gave me a set price,(which I knew HAD to be inaccurate, since I know that hand stripping is very slow, tedious work.) Anyway, I decided to take him in. When I picked him up, hed been shaved down, not stripped. I was also required to drop him off in the morning and not pick him up until late afternoon; I said I didnt want him caged for so long; she replied well, we cant tell you exactly when well get to him so youll have to wait until that time to pick him up." I also noted that a very frightened looking cat was being groomed in the same large room as about 8-9 dogs. How nerve-wracking it mustve been for her! Cats should have a separate grooming area to keep the tensions under control. SInce I cant control the amount of time my dog has to spend there, waiting his turn, I have quit using their services altogether. For all reasons listed above, I do not recommend their services.

Id avoid PetSmart for pet grooming. Their grooming "packages" are deceptive. Several months ago my family stated we wanted the "regular" (or "standard") grooming and trimming and ended paying $50-some dollars for a bath and combing and almost no trimming. The most recent time I called ahead and explicitly asked for a price quote on "everything." (I explained I wanted everything trimmed, everything done). I was quoted $60-some dollars which seemed comparable to other groomers I called. When I arrived, the quoted price for "everything" was over $100! Not wanting to get stuck with another $50 bath, we paid over $100 (not even including tip). Unless youre looking for a $50 bath or grossly overpriced grooming, Id find another groomer. K9Innovations in Walnutport was recommended, but they had a waiting list when I called. Any suggestions?
