We had a serious computer failure in my office around Christmas time. Tech who keeps things working though he could make repairs / alterations. Sent me to Micro to pick up a WD stand alone hard drive which I purchased on sale. After much tinkering, techs advice was: he would build a whole new PC for the office and provide for external backup as part of new equipment. Went to Mico and spent close to $1,500 of my money to get what was needed and put everything back to work. Went to the store on Thursday with WD new in the box, never opened and the receipt. Went to "Returns" desk. Rep said "yes" I could return it after I explained we no longer needed this and it was not compatible with whole new system. I handed over my credit card for the credit to be put on that account. Rep says he has to check with someone else. He makes a phone call and someone who appears to be his supervisor is also there. Doesnt seem to be a problem. The WD is on the shelf, in stock, for sale at a higher price than I paid for it. WD is still making this separate hard drive and Micro is still selling it. Its the top of the line recommended equipment for its purpose. But we dont need this any more: we have just spent $1,500 since the beginning of the year at Micro and this WD stand alone is no longer needed. Next thing I know Rep is preparing a "gift card" for the return. I ask what that is for. He tells me "the receipt is too old" and I can have a "gift card" instead of a credit to my credit card. I ask whether the "gift card" can be used anywhere. He says it has to be used at Micro. Which is the same as telling me he will not accept a return of the WD item because the only way I can get the purchase price back for it is to spend the same amount of money at Micro on something else. Which we dont need because we just spent fifteen hundred bucks there! I can see that a retailer would not take back equipment if the box was opened. Or the equipment was damaged. Or the equipment was so old it was no longer made or stocked and obsolete. But dont tell the customer that new, in the box, never opened, shrink wrap on it equipment cannot be returned because "the receipt is too old." Six weeks is hardly old. Especially when Micro can put this box on the shelf and sell it for more than I paid for it at the sale price. The "receipt" is not too "old." The retailer isnt interested in this customers trade. For which reason I have told my tech that for the purposes of keeping the computer systems operating in my office and at home, he is not to purchase equipment from Micro in the future. Micro doesnt want my business over a $110 return on a piece of new in the box never touched equipment? Fine. There are plenty of other places for this customer to make purchases of what Micro sells. And for anyone reading this review, Ive got a WD My Book 3 TB stand alone external hard drive I have to get rid of. For sale at what I paid for it. Which is less than Micro is charging now. Just want to get my money back from the purchase of this piece for which I have no use.

Lo and behold its as if I had stepped back into a computer store from the early 90s. Everything I could ever want from a computer store was here.... Walls full of motherboards. Check! Rows of video cards and HDD / SSD storage. Check! Premium Monitors and other video accessories. Check! Switches and Networking gear. Check! Single board computers (Raspberry Pi type stuff) CHECK! OMG it was as if I had died and and gone to technology heaven. Really, and no joking now. I was stunned and it really goes to show how few and far between real computer stores are anymore. The last place I saw on this level was a Frys store down in the Atlanta area several years ago. As my brother and I walked around and took it all in we werent bothered by staff and found them to be very helpful. Id say the customer service here was outstanding. I couldnt find what I was looking for so I checked their website on my iPhone, selected the location I was at, which was this store Im reviewing, and then punching in the item I wanted. What was I looking for? A 1 TB PiDrive for my Raspberry Pi 3. The results showed me they had 2 of the PiDrive Kit in stock, and which aisle to find it it. Pretty darn cool. The item however wasnt on the isle, a similar one was, so I asked a gentleman I found in that department, his name was Darryl, and he informed me that kept that particular item in the back and went into the back and brought it out for me. The other thing I wanted to point out was the retail markup. There was barely any. The retail prices here matched their online prices and I found everything that I looked at to be very fairly priced. Especially some of the higher end gaming motherboards I looked it. We jumped in line and out the door we went. Fantastic place. I cant wait to come back on my next trip to the Philly area. Just Outstanding!

Great computer store to me the largest negative is the fact that they are a 30 to 45 minute drive from where I live. Some of their prices are high they dont always have what I want but everytime I go there I can easily spend one to two hours just walking up and down the aisles and seeing what they have. I like the fact that I can place an order online receive an email within 15 to 30 minutes and know that they will have the stuff there when I arrive at the store to pick it up. I have had to return some items due to them being defective and on a very rare occasion even though I was told they were compatible they turned out not to be compatible, but I still enjoy a trip to the store. There are a couple of online stores that I get parts from and most of the time the reason I order from those stores as opposed to going to Micro Center is the distance from my home. Ordering from Microcenter online and having it delivered to my home is usually a few pennies or a couple of dollars more then other stores, as those other stores have premium type memberships that offer free shipping on items. If Microcenter would open a store in my area say within a 15-minute Drive I would probably be wasting a lot of time every week just wandering the aisles looking for a good deal, and being happy with wasting my time because I do enjoy the store.

First of all, I was pretty much ignored in the DIY section. I brushed this off because there seemed to be only one associate working in the section and he was helping someone at the time...but when a second associate came, he ignored me and went right to someone who probably looked more likely to spend some cash. Despite the fact that I was walking around carrying a motherboard that I had questions about. Speaking of which, when I finally pinned him down, he did helpfully (no sarcasm) explain that the mobo I had needed a BIOS flash to be compatible with the processor I wanted. This was good, but then he tried to sell me a mobo that was way more expensive than something of similar price. When I said I couldnt afford it, he "found" a cheaper one that he claimed would boot with my CPU without a flash needed. After driving 45 minutes back home, stripping out my computer and rebuilding it...lo and behold, it doesnt POST. Part of this is my fault as I rushed into the purchase, which is unusual for me, but I am a grad student and have research to do that requires my computer. I trusted MC to respect my time and help me make a good choice and was let down. On the plus side, I got a pretty good deal on the CPU and mobo. They always seem to have the lowest prices on CPUs.
