I fell in love with this shop immediately upon stepping inside with a friend one lovely Saturday afternoon. Its delightful just to look at, right off the bat. And then there are the fabrics. A whole big colorful and orderly wall, plus bolts and bits here and there all over the place. The fabrics are gorgeous. Organic cottons, some barkcloth, a silvery light canvas cloth (out of which Im making some pants), small prints, sweet prints, contemporary designs, and more — all unique and not available at ordinary fabric stores. Inspiring. Perhaps even habit-forming. There were some cloth napkins that caught my attention that first day, with a tag that read "Im a class!" I signed up, took the class with Michelle, and have since become something of a regular at the shop and in the studio. (And I just bought new fabric to make my second set of napkins because it was easy and fun to make the first set.) Im now taking a clothing class on Sunday afternoons, which Jen and Michelle alternate teaching. Both women are encouraging and patient with all of us. Students get lots of individual attention, and we get to see each others garments taking shape. Jen and Michelle are welcoming, engaging, and talented — with exceptional taste, I must say — and they have mad skills to match. Not to mention that they each have a terrific sense of humor. Theyve created a wonderful space, and they encourage makers to hang out on Thursday nights in the "living room" area near the big front window. Spool is the best.

This shop is a gem to the city!! The owners are extremely helpful in selecting the right fabric for the project at hand. Their selection of fabrics are beautiful -- whether youre looking for a solid or a print! They have something for everyone! I have taken a sewing class & Michelle was extremely patient with me. My next class is scheduled, I cant wait!! Thanks, ladies, for sharing your passion with Pittsburgh! You inspire me!

Spool is my favorite fabric store in Pittsburgh! The ladies who work there are extremely knowledge and passionate about all things involving fabric. Plus they are the nicest people you could possibly meet. I could write a novel about why I love Spool but at the end of the day if you are reading this review you should just go to the store and see for yourself why it is so amazing.

Firstly, its the most adorable shop. Exposed brick, chandeliers, the whole deal to make you feel like youre in a place that takes pride in itself. Secondly, their fabric patterns are beautiful and unique, you can see that from their website. They had a sale bin too :) I will be back soon!

Adorable fabrics in fun patterns! I was surprised at the variety and quality of the fabrics! I purchased 3 different fabrics, made 1 into a shirt and received so many compliments :) They also have patterns, which I will definitely go back for!
