I have two ferrets, and my boyfriend and I were considering getting a third. We had stopped at Petco for something else, and after finally tracking down what was apparently the asst. manager, we asked to see one of the ferrets. The manager made us sanitize our hands first (this is a plus, actually), but then informed us that it was only because one of their ferrets had been sick and had to be quarantined. He was not at all knowledgable about the ferrets, and said that he would not be able to tell us the sex or age, even though supposedly they are Marshall ferrets and he should have had some idea of their birthdate. When we asked about bringing our two into the store for a meet-and-greet (which is actually very common), he told us absolutely not, but that if we got the new one home and they didnt get along we could return her.....No animal that I decide to bring into my home would EVER be taken back. Even though technically they are merchandise in the store, it is not acceptable to treat animals the way you would treat a sweater or shoes that didnt fit. Since that visit, I have been back for bedding and have seen as many as ten or twelve ferrets crammed into the display cage at one time. If there were any other store that consistently had my brand of bedding, I would never go back.

STAY AWAY !!!! I needed to get my dog his rabbies shot. My daughter called two weeks ago and the associate told her there was a low cost rabbies clinic on 1-2 -2011 at 2:30 pm My wife called two nights before new years to make sure there was a clinic on 1-2. Both times the associate said yes. I needed to get him his shot before 1-5-2011 to get his 3 year shot or he will have to get another 1 year shot(this was explained to two different store associates both times). Well when my daughter and I got there, we were told sorry no shot clinic today, its not until the 16th. As my daughter was leaving an associte asked her what the problem was and the associate said, theres a clinic today,(not) Now I have 3 days to find a place to get his shot and have to pay an office visit which if I could afford I would not mind. I not only blame the associates but the management is where the true blame belongs. They are responsible for making sure the workers are trained and knowledgable of what is going on in their own store. I will never go back and will tell everyone I know of my glorious experience. Of course this is only my opinion and experience. I wished I would have read the other ratings first.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS GROOMER!!!! I brought my Boxer in for a nail clipping and ear cleaning etc...I believe they call the service a makerover. My dog is well behaved and has been to the groomer (only once before to this groomer) many times without incident. When I got the call to pick her up there was no mention of injury. When I got to the store her nose was bleeding profusely and her face was covered in blood. The groomer said it wasnt her fault that the dog "freaked out" when she tried to dremel her nails. Ive never heard any complaints from previous groomers about her behavior so I am left to assume the groomer is either lying about what happened to her nose, or the dog was mistreated in some way. All that being said, I wasnt all that upset about the injury at first. Accidents happen after all. But when I come into the store to pick up my perfectly healthy dog and find instead a bloody mess, it is not only insulting, but absolutely horrific customer service to then say "That will be $34". I, like all pet owners, spend a lot of money in that store...or at least I used to. Never Again.

Went here on June 9th to pick up 2 hermit crabs for my daughters 8th birthday. While they had both a thermometer and hygrometer, the temp in the habitat was 72 (marginal) and RH was 50% (very low). All the hermit crabs were in painted shells as well. Against my better judgement, we picked two out. They were very lethargic, but I attributed that to the stress an low humidity. We got them into their new home, a 20g terrarium with eco earth substrate, two fresh water dishes and one salt water dish plus both hermit crab food and fresh veggies. One buried himself and never came back up, the second stayed on the surface but remained lethargic. This afternoon (6/19) we found the surface ones shell empty, and his corpse buried underneath. We unearthed the second one to find him clinging to life, sadly, he passed as well. My daughter is devastated. We went to Pet Smart to pick up replacements, the ones there were 80*/80% and even now are far more active.

who would have thought the horror stories you sometimes hear about larger chain pet groomers were ALL true...I took my shih-tzu here a few months back when her hair was way too long for me to do myself and it is the worse mistake ive ever made with a dog...i paid for her to be bathed, cut, ears done, and nails trimmed. alls I got for 70 bucks was that she smelled good in the end...I could have done that! 3 out of 10 of her nails were cut...really? should I be getting a 70% refund? AND they cut her hair wrong....I asked for her face hair to stay longer (as most shih tzus are groomed) and it was all SHAVED off.....so thank you pet co for the buzz cut and a half assed nail trim. I wouldnt go back there if it was free....save your money and your dogs current cute looks!

Very annoyed with the results of my grooming session. I took 2 cats there to get their fur shaved off. I asked for as little fur as possible. One cat came back as requested, the 2nd came back with a chest full of fur. To add to my disappointment, apparently both cats had fleas and were given flea baths. While I didnt mind this, no one called to tell me or ask if this was ok. So both cats received flea baths which I was charged an additional $24.00 (again no one called me to see if I wanted this or could afford it). When I picked up the cats and transferred them to a larger crate in my car, BOTH still had fleas all over them. Such a bummer bc it is hard to find places that groom cats. However for me, I will not go back.

I have a Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle mix when I dropped him off, I explained my wife and I love his hair long, we want his beard and eyebrows left alone and want his body shortened for summer. Wow when I got him back she had cut the beard but only on the sides of his nose! it looked ridiculous, and shaved the eyebrows down so far it nicked the left side, he looked Chinese or something will a fu-man-chu, I will never go back

This petstore is pretty good! Ive gotten some hamsters here over the years and they were all healthy. They have a nice selection of fish and small animals. But the only reason im not giving it 5 stars is because i bought a hamster cage a year ago and it broke the second my hamster got in it. But that is probably the designers fault. So overall GOOD JOB PETCO!!!!
