I drove to EMS in Exton yesterday after I had called around for a Suunto Core watch. They told me they had it in stock and my wife an I made the hour drive down. When we entered the store, we were struck by the amount of gear it has...very well equipped! I was immediately "greeted" by a young sales guy. I told him I was there for a Sunnto watch and the motioned towards a display case. I told him I wanted "That All Black Core" as I pointed to it. He told me it wasnt a Core; it was a Yachtsman. Being very familiar with Suunto I was stunned (as the two watches bear almost no physical resemblance). I realized that they had the wrong label on the wristpiece. He then told me they didnt have a the negative faced Core (even though it was right there). Out of curiosity I asked him for a break down of their differences and he read off of the display synopsis. He had no idea about the watches, the fact that I had called in about stock, and that I am a technical outdoorsman and buyer that had driven an hour down for a watch I couldve bought online because I like shopping at EMS stores. He finally decided to check the "stock" and he found it. He said he would put it at the front desk and never came back. I wasnt done shopping. IN FACT, I almost didnt purchase the watch at all due to his attitude and ignorance. My wife and I were ready to walk out when we stopped to look at a pack and Russell asked us if we needed any help. I inquired about some packs I was considering for the fall and winter, and he proceeded to give us such a wonderful demo on each of the packs we inquired about. It was awesome! He was not only terrific technically, but also very personable. In short, if you go to this store...avoid the smug grom (who will probably be wearing some hipster dufus had and plaid shirt) and ask for Russell. We bought the watch and will come back to get the pack and much more.

I first went to EMS when I originally bought my kayak 2 years ago and they helped/taught me how to get it on the SUV for short trips (yes a first time kayaker). Went in and picked up some straps two weeks ago for a long haul trip and went back the next day with the kayak in tow to make sure they were what I needed. Got help right away from Adam, who went above and beyond helping me; going out to the car (he got right down on the ground looking for a hook area under the car) and helped me get everything I needed for the car and kayak and showed me knots to use to keep everything secure. I left the lot with the kayak fit and ready and much more knowledgeable and confident about my trip. The customer service and employee knowledge are reasons why I come back for anything I need for my kayak. For the record the kayak made it there and back perfectly.

My wife and I were shopping for heart-rate monitors for cycling and running in the Fall/Winter. We called in before making the drive into Exton - turns out the staff is very knowledgeable about these very technical instruments. Suunto, Polar and Timex are all brands that EMS Exton carried and are all very dependable brands! We also took advantage of the Club Days discount - we received 20% OFF just by making a $10 non-profit donation to HomeAid Africa; which is a partner of EMS Exton. Overall a great experience with Eastern Mountain Sports, once again. Also sounds like the staff really love working for the company - thats a great sign!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I visited EMS today (Exton, PA) and waited 25 minutes before a staff member acknowledged me. Once a staff member grabbed me a pair of slippers, they disappeared. I waited another 10 minutes for a staff member to come back (again no one acknowledged me) before I left. I WILL NEVER VISIT EMS OF EXTON EVER AGAIN! It is important to note that there was at least two staff members in the shoe area during this time. PRODUCTS AND THE SELECTIONS ARE GREAT!

EMS has great stuff, but REI has superior customer service. I bought a pair of full price hiking shoes from EMS and they just did not break in. REI guarantees their shoes, but EMS will only give back 50%. 50% is nice, but 100% is better. If you are looking to invest in gear, I would bypass EMS and head to REI, if you are spending a lot.

I run an outdoor adventure program at West Chester University and the staff is always super accommodating to assist us with our program needs. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. I wish the store was a little larger to have more stock available.

I comparison shopped on line but really needed to try the shoes on. The sales staff were very attentive and I asked more than one ( I hope it wasnt commission). I used #ENDOFSEASON and got the discount.

Their website claims they stock Prana mens wear. Their staff at this site claim theyve never stocked it. Waste of my time.
