TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE- older woman with short hair, manager? I bought a pair of climbing shoes that ended up not fitting as well as I would have liked. I took them back the next day with the receipt. The woman at customer service started the return process and told me that I was welcome to pick out a different pair that fit better. She was very nice and helpful. So I went and started the shoe picking process. However, I shortly found out that she didnt do the process quite right, she had taken the receipt and the old shoes so I had nothing to "prove" that I had bought and returned a pair of 80$ bouldering shoes. When I had found a pair that I liked I took them back and it turned out that the woman had gone on break, thats fine but she didnt inform the woman that took over what was going on. I explained the situation and this new woman just looked at me like I was trying to scam her. She rolled her eyes and didnt believe me. She made these inconvenient huffy noises. I told her "Look lady if I was going to scam you wouldnt I come up with something better than this?" I asked her to go and find the woman that was here before and figure it out with her because it wasnt my problem if the process was done incorrectly. People make mistakes and thats fine but I dont really appreciate getting treated like a delinquent, being a 20 something I get enough of that everywhere else. This woman never apologized for the way she talked and interacted with me, I was not impressed.

Extremely rude service in the departments - Nice checkout though. Two unpleasant occasions. 1 I was shopping for shoes when the saleswoman snapped at me "Put the shoes back in the box when you are done", like she was telling me not to shop lift. Needless to say I didnt buy anything. 2 I was shopping for socks with my daughter. As no one else was around, I asked the shoe guy if he could help us. He barked back "Sir, after this customer." I said "Im a woman" He apologized pretty insincerely. I said sure and waited for about 5-10 minutes. Other people showed up in the shoe department and he started serving them. I came over and he kind of snarled like "You again". I started to walk out, but my daughter was leaving on a trip and had picked out some socks, so I went to pay for them. The woman at the counter was very nice; encouraged me to write a complaint and said in the future if departmental salespeople werent available she would make sure that the manager could help. I think I will either try another REI or some other store before going back to the Bridgeport one.

Ive been shopping here for over a year and am an avid outdoor enthusiast and runner. My beef is with the customer service (or lack of). I go through 4-5 pairs of running shoes per year as well as quite a bit of gear. I find that the staff is not very knowledgeable and rather unfriendly. When I ask questions they kind of shrug and say "Im not sure if we carry that". I wanted a Brooks Nightlife jacket in Small, they didnt have it but I went to customer service and they said the Portland store had one. They refused to transfer the item, if I ordered online I would pay shipping, so basically they told me to drive there and get it. I am now loyal to Road Runner, who twice now has transferred items from out of state for me with no additional cost!

After 40 years as a member I was treated to the most hostile service I have experienced at any retailer in years. The reason... I was trying to use Samsung Pay which works virtually everywhere due to Samsungs technology. The associate told me in a very rude manner that I could not use and that she would call a manager if I tried. She would not listen to any rational attempt at explanation. She alsothreatened to cancel our transaction. Seriously I have used Samsung Pay successfully at out of the way locations that had card readers that were older than dirt. But not at REI! Finally just used the chip reader. REI please retrain your associates and upgrade your technology to protect your members.

I am disappointed with REI everytime I go there. They never have what I want in stock, and they try to sell you what they have in stock rather than get the correct items in. e.g. Needed a bicycle with 16" wheels for a child, they did not have any in stock so tried to sell me one with 20" wheels. Also tried to tell me that it is better to train on 20" wheels -- because that is all they have in stock???? Also, did not have any training wheels on the bikes and said we could install these ourselves after we buy the bike, since it was a lot of trouble to put them on to try the bike. It is experiences and advice like this that makes me buy from amazon.

Dont bring your bike in! My husband brought his bike in April for a tune up, everything was fine besides the bottom bracket. They fixed it and off we went... The first ride after doing so, the entire crankarm almost came completely off. Extremely dangerous, so we return to Rei..They tightened it and applied lock tight. So off on another ride to find out we need brake pads, new headset bearings and once again the crank arm is loose and probably permanently damaged. Return to Rei and they will not help us, just imply we should spend more money fixing the problem again! They officially lost our business, will not be returning again. .for anything

I was looking for some gear and searched for a REI store on my GPS and found this one. They even had a sale going on I didnt knew about. Bought a headlamd and the staff member explained me a fair portion of it, but forgot to mention some important details about the one lamp he recommended. Maybe he didnt knew, because it doesnt even say it on the box. I had to read the instruction manual to find it. Anyway came back and they exchanged it quickly for a different one without any problems. I wish I could had avoided the exchange but everything else was a good experience.

REI is my go-to spot when I need to shop for anything related to travel or the outdoors. For a recent trip to Europe, I shopped at area stores to purchase a day pack and a travel purse. I found some, but held off until I saw all my options. REI had exactly what I needed, and the items I purchased are super durable (and I still use them). Most of the staff members are experts in the sports in their respective departments. Just watch out for the ones who try to sell you the membership even when you tell them you have one.

Horrible customer service. They refused to replace a pair of REI brand snow pants that broke under normal use due to a design flaw. Their customer service representative was rude, dismissive, and refused to show empathy. Ive been to several other REI locations and have normally been pleased with customer service. I guess the standard isnt as high at this location. If you have outdoor gear needs or need to talk to customer service, avoid this REI.
