In the 3 or so years I used PetSmarts grooming service for my cats, I havent had a single experience I would call entirely satisfactory. I have been treated rudely by many inexperienced, ill-trained and completely unconcerned employees. It has been made very clear that my business is meaningless to them, my schedule is not their concern, and any questions I have are really way to much trouble for them to consider. They were horrid to me for the last time a week ago. I called to schedule summer dos for my 2 boys, and spoke to a clueless and snotty young woman. She informed me that one of my cats was past due on his rabies (not true, just not on record with them), rather than simply asking if I could bring his current certificate. I told her I would bring it with me. She then put me on hold for so long that their phone system cycled me in as a new call, which was answered by a different clueless and snotty young woman. When we began to try to work out an appointment time, she put me on hold, this time until the system dropped the call. When I called back, I was informed that the one person they have that can handle cats was only available on certain days, and that the first time I could bring the boys in without taking time off work would be two weeks out. They couldnt deal with having them dropped off in the morning and kept until I could get off work. Apparently they dont have the kennel facilities to keep cats comfortable beyond 4 hours. (Odd for a place that has cats living there 24/7, no?) The thing that really chaps my hide is not that they couldnt accommodate my needs, but the attitude behind it. No apologetic tone, no hint of concern for the problem I was trying to solve, no sense that I was anything but an irritation to them. Over the course of years I only had one occasion where a staff member passed a pleasant word with me - and most times were just as unpleasant as this one. I dont need this, and I definitely wont be back. And Im quite certain they dont care. I suspect that PetSmarts strategy, at least in the GroomShop, is to hire mostly people straight out of high school, pay them as little as the law allows, and treat them like dirt. Who cares if they pass that mistreatment on to customers? They have name recognition, many huge locations and a massive ad budget. If they tick me off for the last time, some other poor slob will take my place. Im glad to be finished with them.

I bought my guinea pig and guinea pig supplies here as a Christmas present to myself. The sales associate was very helpful and had excellent customer service, going the extra mile to make sure I got the right supplies for my guinea pig. She even found me an excellent starter kit for less than $50! The guinea pig I adopted is adorable and a sweetheart, but after about a week, I noticed he had some dandruff, which later turned into a full blown cut the size and shape of a blueberry (which is huge for a baby guinea pig). Becca was great for the first couple of weeks, making sure I know what is happening to him and ensuring that he is doing well. They also let me visit him in their observation room, which is very kind of them. I also do not have to pay for his treatment because of their two week guarantee policy. Rachel is also very helpful and has good customer service in the small animal area. Total time, from the time I dropped my guinea pig off to when I got him back: 4.5 weeks. Nonetheless, I have been impressed with the grooming salon. Last week, I took my sisters puppy to the salon for the first time. The groomer-stylist, I believe her name is Katie (curly brown hair, dyed green-teal color and several piercings), went above and beyond for his first trip. He came out looking like a new dog, and it was completed with efficiency and care/consideration for the owner and dog.

This is the biggest pet store (including among other Petsmarts) I have ever set foot in, or even conceived as being possible in this space-time continuum. Wow. I could have spent an entire day here. Fish department had such a selection my mind blew a fuse a couple times and I had to start from the beginning again, viewing all the items they had. Alas, given my legal background, I must complain a little as well, as merely focusing on the above would render me too happy in life. First complaint: prices were WAY TOO HIGH. I mean, so high I had to skip dinner that night and all that week. Second of all, at least in fish department, the selection lacked "basic goods." What I mean is they didnt carry any simple components so that a DIY-minded person could shop there for a project. I only saw two items I could buy and then apply freely to whatever project I wanted: net-bags (empty), meant to be filled with whatever filter media fit your needs, and a large foam pad which you could cut up to fit any filter project. Other than that, every item was made to fit with other, more expensive items by the same company. They carried 100 different foam pads specifically meant only for "Model X" of "Company Y" and so on. Really wish they had a general hobbyist section with generic items, and the prices generics imply.

Very few people here are eligible to give you specific information on pets. Generally, most of the employees make you feel like youre interrupting them when asking for help, or asking a simple question. Along with that, the employees do not have liable answers to any questions. For example, a woman told me the $35 aquarium heater was the only heater the store had to offer, but I found on the other side of the isle that there were about 5-10 more options ranging in prices between $10-$40. Clearly asking for help is irrelevant of youre going to be misdirected. I would come here for purchasing because the prices can be lower than other pet stores, but to get a full learning experience and actually understand what you might need for any specific type of pet, Id suggest visiting Pets on Broadway in Portland.

Unlike some reviewers, Ive never had a problem with the employees who have always been helpful and courteous to me. My big gripe is the fact that their online prices dont match the in-store prices, which are often higher. They will honor the online price, but you have to ask and show them the webpage (or get the manager if you dont happen to have a device with you). I made this discovery when I was online shopping for the always expensive Greenies for my dog and was surprised to see their price was the lowest I could find, including on Amazon. When I got to the store, the price was considerably higher, so I spoke to the manager whose response was basically, "Oh, yes, thats often the case, so we honor the online price if requested." I find that sleazy. Bait & switch.

Just DON"T do it!! Our normally outgoing & loving dog shook, and hid under the bed for days before finally returning to her usual self. I dont know what happened during her short visit, but we wont be returning ever again. Our family pets cant speak, but they sure can tell us alot with their actions. I had a "gut" feeling about the groomer, and should have gone with my instincts. Maybe Petsmart should make sure that their employees are loving and caring pet lovers before allowing them to handle our beloved pets. No more bargains for me at the expense of my pet. Not worth it in the long run. I spent days trimming hairs that were sticking out from her nose, eyes, and chin. Bad deal all the way around.
