The woman in the Microtech store is not a technician. She is a nice lady who answers the phone and tries to help customers with their non-technical needs to the best of her ability, to avoid having to frequently interrupt the technician working in the back. The technician got called out when I needed to talk technical about motherboards. A USB WiFi adapter, regardless of brand, or type of operation (the N designation), often has no outside antenna and the compact nature of those devices means they have a micro-sized antenna to transcieve signals from, and to, a router. This can limit their effectiveness at longer distances from the router. A raid array is usually, for home use, either a striped or mirrored array. A striped array is one that is intended to write a stripe of information to first one hard drive, then write to the other, then return to the first one, so that when the information is read back, the information being retrieved comes from one drive while the next stripe is being located on the other. This allows a more continuous retrieval of information. It takes time on a mechanical drive to seek information, so the alternating drives each give the other drive time to find the information while they give the user information by turns. In a mirrored array, the same information is stored on both drives so that if one drive fails, the other one will still have your data. It is primarily for assuring you wont lose critical data if one drive fails. I am not a "Shill", or an employee, I am a computer hobbyist who learns by reading. i went in the store to enjoy talking with a fellow geek and their tech gave me about what seemed to me only five minutes but was probably closer to thirty, answering questions and sharing experiences with logic devices. Based on his level of knowledge and his friendly helpful attitude, I would trust my computer to his capable hands, if I didnt totally enjoy working on my own. I hope that reading this may put your mind more at ease about these good people who really are trying to do their best to fill your needs. I will likely be going back for parts for my next build, when I have an income again.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I agree with everyone else. The technician Vince and manager Debbie were extremely misleading and quite inept in their ability to perform simple customer service. Not to mention fix a computer. I was told at the beginning when I brought in my computer I would get a free estimate so I brought it in. It had a cracked screen and he told me he would call me with with the estimate. He called me a few days later and tried to sell me a computer they had in their shop. I politely declined and asked just to get mine fixed. He then went on to tell me it could take 14 weeks to get another screen. I said ok I wasnt really in a hurry. It seemed like they really just didnt want to fix it. I got a call 4 weeks later saying they had been sent the wrong screen and they would not be able to get the one I need. I was told it would be impossible to get it fixed and I would be better off letting them "dispose" of it. When I went to get my computer back I was charged a $45 fee for absolutely nothing! Then they tried to give me a guilt trip saying they ate the shipping cost on the wrong screen they ordered. When I tried to resolve my problem with the manager Debbie she was absolutely useless and quite rude. When I told her she was ripping me off and I should give her a bad review she raised the price to $127 until I promised her I wouldnt and had to beg for my computer back. Which made her feel better i guess she brought it back down to $45 I called around for 20 mins and found a shop that had the screen I need and it is currently being fixed!! After being told it was impossible and I should just let them "dispose" of it. If you ask me these people are criminals and do not deserve to stay in business. Everyone should file a report with the BBB.

I went in to have a computer built. I was able to take the quote sheet to my daughters boyfriend who has owned his own shop and does contract work. He was actually impressed with the price and what the system would have. And it was fine...until I got it home. One of my things that was vital was the two 1 TB hard drives that were supposed to be connected via a "RAID array" (dont ask me, I have no idea). It started failing the first week I brought it home. They said they would repair it "for free this time". When it went critical again a few months later, they had my computer for a week...and charged me around $80! That lasted THREE DAYS!!!! I had my daughters boyfriend take a look. He said, and I quote, "that RAID is a joke...whoever did it has no clue what they are doing." He fixed it. Now, here are a few other issues, when I took it in, the lady running the shop basically talked to me like I was an idiot. She blamed everything from "pop ups" to my potentially going into the case myself to alter their work. (umm...no, and the accusation was seriously offensive). When I called and told them that it went down again, the response I got was that they would have to completely uninstall everything that I have on my drive because it is obviously something that I have done. Other than three games (Civ IV, Starcraft II, and Total War) i dont have anything installed on my system that they did not put there. Once again, they were blaming me. I try to support local business, but I will NEVER go there again. They have ZERO customer service skills and charge the customer when their work is defective.

DO NOT SHOP HERE. I bought a USB WiFi Adapter for my home computer last Monday. I live about 35 miles from the store but was in the area. WHAT A MISTAKE! I was assured that the "N" Adapter would connect as well as any other brand and not to worry. After living through 2 nights of intermittent low bandwidth connectivity I went to Best Buy and bought a Netgear Adapter which gave me 10x the performance and a constant connection. Upon trying to return the Adapter today I was told I could have store credit only because lots of people use their adapters and then replace them from somewhere else and want to then get their money back. Huh Wonder why. I told them to keep the money since I would NEVER EVER SHOP HERE AGAIN! To sum it up: 1/ Miss-information at purchase 2/ Shoddy electronics 3/ Terrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and pass this place by.

I almost feel bad leaving a scathing review on a local company, but you should NOT go here. They were friendly when I met them. But they did NOT inform me about the $45 fee just to look at my computer, and no record of just WHAT they looked at, claimed to have left a message four days ago when I have no missed calls or messages, and when I called today, informed my it would be an additional $125 just to open up the back without fixing the computer! They will try to ring you dry, you can find much better places to get a computer fixed. Im just picking it up today and will be finding another way to fix it. When I told that to the lady on the phone, she flat out informed me that I wouldnt know what I was doing- I wasnt a computer technician. Turned very sour once I wasnt on board with getting screwed over. Dont support their business!
