The service is horribly slow and inattentive! The check out is even worse. Most of the people are friendly, but everyone is so slow and lackadaisical; it must be an employment requirement! I stood at the deli counter for a solid 5 minutes, next to another customer. We both looked at each other like WTF? I asked her sarcastically, "is the deli open?". She asked out loud, "Is the deli open?" "Oh, yes it is", the reply of someone who had their back to us the whole time, scraping and wiping a counter clean for quite a long while, not in the least concerned whether there were customers waiting. I wouldnt be surprised if we would have waited 20 more minutes before she noticed us! Then, the checkout. It was mellow because it was a Sunday morning, but the lady neglected to give me my $10 cash back I entered on the terminal! The checkout is almost always congested and the stands themselves are more suitable for a book store. This is the perfect example of events that happen EVERY time I have shopped at The Kiva. I have had so many bad experiences there that I stopped shopping there a few years ago, but this morning it was the closest deli to my sons job, to get lunch on the way in. Dont shop here if youre on any kind of schedule. Allow an hour for a small trip or lunch.

I have searched high and low with my wife to find the best cheese store in Eugene. Weve been too New Frontier, Sundance, Redbarn, and Market of Choice to find that if your main goal is to find cheese this is the place you want to go. I do believe that Market of Choice has MORE cheese than Kiva, BUT in my opinion its not a very eclectic selection. Kivas cheese selection maybe smaller however it has more daring choices. Im of Welsh decent and was excited to find that they actually have cheeses from Wales. Irish and English will be happy to know they have their cheeses too. Im a huge "Blue Cheese" fan and I must say that Kivas selection on them is bigger than Market of Choice. Pre-packaged cheeses like Munster and swiss is reasonable. Winco sells Munster for much more than Kiva so I dont know what the other guy was talking about. This isnt a place to get your full line of groceries I must admit but its the best place in Eugene to get your cheese. (NOTE: They also have essential oils to make your own perfumes / soaps also their "bulk" spices are the best Ive seen....so far. Comparable to "Limbo" in Portland.)

The quintessential organic food market, The Kiva located in downtown Eugene is about as good as it gets. It offers an amazing variety of fresh and colorful vegetables & fruits, free range and locally raised meats, quality grains, and an absolutely stellar deli with delicious handmade sandwiches and soups. It also offers an array of rare books, flower bouquets, spices, cheeses, and a large selection of vintage wines. Opened in 1970, this locally owned business is constantly bustling with customers. And unlike some other establishments there is plenty of friendly and knowledge staff on hand to answer questions or assist with checkouts. Although a bit pricey in general, youre paying for the best in natural & specialty foods, organic produce, and unique novelties. Without hesitation I give this marketplace five out of five stars.

I recently moved here from Portland and was pleasantly surprised to discover a lot of natural foods stores to choose from. In my first couple of months here I checked and compared all the stores and, The Kiva is the obvious stand-out. Without trying to hard, Kiva has great natural foods, an incredible cheese selection (even compared with my favorite cheese shop in Portland), a great mix of fresh produce (especially for such a limited amount of space), wine for days, and a great staff. They even have a bunch of conventional foods for folks who arent interested in natural/organic foods. I feel like a get a true neighborhood experience at The Kiva and recently, Ive become hooked on their custom-made sandwiches! I really miss Portland, but Im glad to have found such a great place to shop in Eugene.

Apparently this place was wonderful five years ago. Not so much now. I walked pass the veggies and fruits as they looked fairly gross; going into detail would only depress me more. I was really jazzed about what I saw in their deli, until I watched everyone preparing the items talking over the food; essentially raining saliva. Finally I visit The Kiva this morning. I was the first person in line for a sandwich. I ordered half a sandwich. A person walked in behind me and ordered two. Twenty minutes went by; with employees staring at me. He got both his sandwiches and I was left standing there. So I just left. Thanks guys. Between 4 people standing there. Half a sandwich couldnt be made with in 20 minutes.

Do you like cheese? Are you looking for the best priced cheeses in town? Do you love to shop bulk dry goods, like me? The Kiva has great bulk selection, excellent gluten free flour selection, cheaper prices than PC Market on bulk and great granola, raisins etc. Yogi Tea, Coffee beans and fruits and veg will be more expensive and always fresh! Last time I went to the Kiva, I was swept off my feet my an $11 dollar Arthurium (the big red Hawaiian plant) and various lite quantity all natural fertilizers. The store is located near the Downtown library. They have excellent hot fresh coffee and delicious pastry case! If you are looking for Downton Abbey tea, this is the spot for you!

I used to live in walking distance & went to the Kiva whenever possible despite the fact that its not entirely budget-friendly. But it is locally owned & has a wonderfully eclectic selection of healthy, gourmet, & bulk foods. I have since been identified as gluten intolerant, & in the last year or two the Kiva has greatly expanded its line of GF foods. I have to drive now, & tend to clean out the bank account whenever I go, but if youre looking for great food for normal, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, or whatever other kind of diet one can think of, the Kiva is an excellent place to go. And, to make it truly perfect, theyve got BOOKS!! What more could you ask for??

The Kiva treats its employees very well, this is shown by how friendly and helpful the staff is. I really enjoy shopping here and feel very confident in giving them my money. I feel assured in the fact that The Kiva is not personality testing and urine testing their employees, unlike some large corporate stores. I find the prices to be some of the best in town as far as local natural foods stores go. They also carry seasonal local organic produce, have a great cheese selection, and a wonderful book shop. I also appreciate that they carry local meats, including grass fed beef. Thanks for helping me keep my family healthy and well fed.

I have only been here once and very briefly, but my experience was very pleasant. I needed an ingredient for a tincture that I was having made and was in a bit of a hurry to get to my herbologist before she closed for the day. There was an employee close to the front of the store who was friendly and knowledgeable about what I was looking for as well as the different forms it came in and he was able to make a recommendation on which product was of better quality. I was in and out with exactly what I was looking for in no time at all. Ill definitely take a more in depth stroll through the store sometime soon.
