I love this store so much being a homeowner, young DIY’er and penny pincher who cares about good service. So happy to have one in the city and in a “re-development” area. After years of horrible customer service at the local Lowes, I visited Menards to be greeted so friendly and knowledge employees (seriously, why do I feel like I am bugging Lowe’s employees for checking out and paying for my purchases. I have almost written the GM a few times given the amount of business I have given them over the years). Menard’s has great hours for people who like to start the day early and stay open late to help finish up projects. That is a very important thing to consider when being a Weekend Warrior. I have told many people about this store at work, and now they are hooked as well…all are project manager, engineers, in construction and watching their budget. So many options to choose from with great prices. Not everything is top of the line on sale, but I have noticed the same products made by the same manufacturer at other stores with just different labeling. I even search the Internet to verify this. One just needs to be smart on when to pay top dollar and when not too. Nonetheless, they carry a great selection, for example I examined about 20 staple guns when I need one a few months back. Menards also has great sales, and even made in USA sales. Several times I have been assisted by employee’s for well over 15 mins explaining to me the pros and cons of various items, and they walked me over to the item and not just tell me what aisle an item is located in, like I heard this Lowe’s employee do this past week. However, during busy hours, this level of service may be hurting, but while shopping after work or early or late in the day, when not many other are out, I get great service. I love the check out process and have never waited more than 1 min to check out. Plus, I have yet to have an item ring up differently than its shelf or sale price. Nice! Menards seems to have everything, from special lighting to special screws. They also carry some unique e plants that you will not find elsewhere nearby. I have made a few returns to the store which each time was simple and painless, unlike my Lowe’s experience on April 1, 2012. I enjoy their paper ads each week with inspiring quotes at the bottom, took me months before I noticed. This company feels like family run business and not a corporate run machine like Lowe’s, which of course, will turn off a few people. I have used the Contractor counters and specialty kiosks as well and found the people there helpful, responsive and willing to give advice to a home owner like me. I also like their website with tip, videos and articles, and I have sign up for their weekly email services with home improvement tips. After shopping for months at this store, I feel like this store is a good neighbor. Try it out a few times and learn, yes, its limitations but also its value. Menards, Thanks for introducing us Urban people to this unique store!

I went to Menards for the first time the other day. I was really excited to check it out and there are some good things about it, but ultimately I came away disappointed. First, the good: The store has a huge selection of home improvement items that most other stores cant match. Furthermore, the store is clean and fairly well organized. Like most places, you can find some good deals but not everything is a rock bottom price. Unfortunately, those good aspects are let down by a lack of service. I went in looking for silicone caulk and some concrete construction blocks. I first walked around the store to get a feel for it and tried to find things on my own, but no luck. I went to the outside area and an employee asked me what I was looking for. I explained concrete block and he pointed me to the next isle, which had landscape pavers. I tried to find him again to explain but he was gone. I then went back inside and eventually found another employee. She knew where the caulk was, but said the blocks were in the "back corner" of the store. So I found the caulk, but the back corner of the store just had drywall and plywood. I finally went up to the front counter, where I waited, and waited, and waited to ask someone. An employee finally came up and was able to tell me that I needed to go over to the order area to put in the order and the drive around to the back of the store to pick them up. I thought that would be the end of the hassle, but no. The ordering guy gave me a printout to give to the cashier to pay, and the cashier kept the slip. When I went to the back of the store to pick up the blocks, the security guy was bent out of shape that I didnt have the original order slip even though I had my receipt showing the items. He finally let me in, but after I was in picking up my items, I saw/heard him complaining about me to the next person in line, as if I wanted to cause him trouble. What should have been a 30-45 minute shopping trip turned into a 1.5 hour ordeal. I was pretty disappointed. If Menards gets serious about training their employees where things are in the store and makes sure every employee knows how things are supposed to work, this place has potential. Until then, there are many places I will go to first before going here where employees are well trained.

The prices are great, its the reason I drive across Columbus instead of going to the nearest Lowes or Home Depot. They also have a really great selection of items. I really like that I can get my stuff for house projects and pick up a few groceries or get some toys for the dogs all in one trip. The Menards team members there can be really hit or miss. Most have tried to be helpful but havent been able to answer questions about products or where to find products. Ive seen several of the employees just standing around chatting when a customer is obviously looking for something. Ive also had to watch my purchases at the checkout. One of the cashiers told me to go down and bag instead of help her with items at the cart (while my buddy was bagging) and when I got home realized that 2 items were missing. She had left them by the cash register when I went back to get them. Better customer care and possibly better employee distribution before Id give this place five stars.

I bought an exterior door that advertised no painting needed. It even came in a box labeled no painting needed, but the paint was all scraped up. They said it was from shipping and that door had only a primer coat so the scratches were irrelevant. I tried to discuss this with a guy named Easton in the door and hardware section. My point being "Dont claim the door doesnt need painted if it does. If the box says no paint needed and the door is scratched then they should have given me a discount if nothing else." Also dont treat your customers disrespectfuly. Easton had a sly answer for everything but no solution! If I hadnt driven 30 minutes across town and borrowed a van to pick the door up, I would have refused to take the door. Not sure I will return to this store.
