Update - April 2017: What the hell happened to m5?! :( A year ago m5 was “totally owning this whole ‘craft coffee’ thing” per Cincinnati Refined. But now it feels like they’ve given up on it. Theyve stopped doing pour overs and brewing methods entirely, and now serve only one coffee and only as batch brew. Im sure its okay but… batch brew is not a pour over. One-hour old coffee doesn’t taste fresh. The girl at the front counter got kind of defensive about it all — “batch brew is basically a giant pour over” and “tastes the same” — come on that’s disingenuous. There are so many coffee producing countries and varieties in the world… why limit to one? If you dont happen to like Kenyas or whatever the coffee of the moment is, you just have to go somewhere else. I get that it takes time to do a pour over and batch brew has better economies of scale, and that’s cool, but just charge me $5 for a pour over instead of $2 for batch brew instead of scrapping it. I’ll happily pay for it. As someone whos been coming here since m5 first opened as the small nook in the back of the theater company, this is a massive disappointment. m5 has been very experimental and tried tons of cool things that aren’t common in the city, the coffee flights being an awesome one, but I hope that this experiment doesn’t last. I’m all for curation and minimalism but serving only one coffee and dropping pour overs in favor of only batch brew takes it too far. Personally I’ll come here much less if they stick with this — there are too many coffee shops and cafes offering several great coffees as pour overs. I dropped my rating of m5 from 5 stars to 2 because of this change. I’m hopeful that Alex and crew will put their ears back to the customers and figure this out. This place has been awesome before and has potential to be there again.

Being a professional remote worker, m5 was my saving grace to living in Cincinnati. I have tried just about every coffee shop in the Cincinnati downtown, OTR and Hyde Park areas. When I discovered m5 I was instantly in love. Again, only coming from a remote worker perspective I have to say that their music is played at just the right volume, they have the best playlists always, their coffee and espresso is on point, and their seating options are great (standup counters, seats, couches, outdoor table etc...). With floor to ceiling glass windows at the entrance and great WiFi it allows you to people watch while stressing over work. Im sure they get sick of me coming by almost every weekday to work and hang, but I truly do love this atmosphere and it gave me hope that Cincinnati can accommodate remote workers like myself. The only small thing I wish for someday is more available power outlets, but then again thats just me being greedy. ;) Highly recommended. This is one of Cincinnatis semi-hidden gems for sure.

I wasnt super impressed. The coffee was good, I was introduced to the Kalita pour over for the first time. I really enjoyed that. The vibe was not really inviting. Not necessarily a place I would hang out at. There are three different coffee stands, I believe two espresso sections and a manual pour-over table. There was only one person working, and he wasnt exactly a people person. I didnt really feel welcomed or engaged in convo. Overall: the coffee was great, but the atmosphere, vibe, and personnel were sub-par.

Welcoming, quality-driven, cool and cozy. This place is perfect for an outstanding cup of coffee, espresso, tea, etc... Grab a cup to go, or hunker down with a laptop in a comfy chair and have your drink brought to you. Think of this place as Hyde Parks community living room complete with unparalleled quality coffee. Also, there is a massive raw-edge community table for working or visiting. Its amazing in and of itself.

So happy we have a Cafe like M5 in The Square. Industrial Classy ambiance great for small meetings or to simply enjoy a really delicious tea or capuccino. By the way, amazing capuccino, and I am picky about. And with a rewarding heart design! What else can I ask? Great, friendly service. Will be back soon.

Fantastic coffee shop. If you are looking for a cozy place with big armchairs and a fireplace (which everyone does need in their life), this isnt your spot. If you want an incredible cup of coffee with outstanding staff, go no further. This is maybe the best brew I have had in the area.

One of the few places you can get Hartzler milk in your coffee. A rotating blend of curated not-local roasters makes m5 unique among Cincinnati coffee shops.
