Today I had a most unacceptable experience at The Eye Center next to Lenscrafters located in the Independence Mall, Wilmington, NC. I made the appointment on line for an eye exam and chose this location as they accept my eye insurance provider. The next day they called and asked me to give them my medical insurance provider information, which I did, although none of my prior Optometrists have ever asked for this. After checking in for my appointment, they had me read at least ten documents about their service and sign them. When I was taken to begin my visit, not with a doctor but a receptionist, I read a couple of eye charts, then I was told that I needed a Medical Eye Exam, not a Vision Exam. Also, they now informed me that they do NOT accept my medical insurance (the biggest insurer in NC) so instead of a fully covered eye exam, it would now cost me at least $140.00 for an Out-Of-Network Medical Eye Exam. What a shock!!! Shouldnt they have notified me In Advance that they do not accept BCBSNC insurance, just in case. What a waste of my time and theirs. I felt very much abused and tricked by their unprofessional and seemingly underhanded behavior. SHAME ON THEM. So I warn you that if you go there expecting a Vision Exam fully covered by your insurance, dont be surprised when they try to get money out of you. I left and did not keep the appointment.

Dr. Walent has seen my daughter for years. She went for the first time at a pretty young age, and is terrified of Dr.s. All of the equipment can look pretty scary for such a young child, but he made is FUN! He has made each and every visit a pleasure for her. She looks forward to her annual evaluations and leaves happy. He always takes time to answer questions, explains everything so that we walk out of there knowing exactly where our vision and eye health is, and he ALWAYS has a smile on his face. His staff is always pleasant, positive, helpful and attentive. They always show patience with my daughter and explain each and every step of the process so she isnt nervous. We adore Dr. Walent, his staff and wont go anywhere else for eye care.

Dr. Walent and his staff are incredible at what they do! Im a very active person and after years of dealing with the hassle of wearing glasses I decided to make an appointment at the Eye Center to FINALLY conquer my fear of touching my eyes and give contacts a try. Not only is Dr. Walent one of the friendliest doctors Ive ever met, he acknowledged my fears, was extremely patient and took the time to answer all of my questions. He ultimately found me the perfect style of contacts for my needs and budget. His techs were also wonderful and understanding, going above and beyond to teach me how to use and care for them. I couldnt be more pleased with my experience!

Im the owner of Houses Over America and needed to see an optometrist for a bad case of iritis. I couldnt be more thrilled with the level of service. The staff were great. They were friendly, courteous and professional. Same for the doctor. Really like the guy. He seems to really care about the people he sees and is very knowledgeable about eye-related medical ailments and their treatment. I give them 5 stars in every category.

Just moved into the area and I must say I was not overly excited about this option - mall doctor next to Lenscrafters? Wow, I am so glad I decided to go anyway. Lovely people in the office. So friendly, warm and engaging. I am over the moon with the staff and service.
