I agree completely with Tina N. For work and for personal reasons I have shopped at this REI four times in the past week and a half. Each time I have waited at least 15 min in line, even as the only/1st person in line. Like Tina N. said, the cashiers show no acknowledgement or sense of urgency on any level to help the line move along. Even more frustrating is that there are plenty of people working the floor and no one is ever called to assist with checking people out. I have waited it out for work purchases because I had to, but this last time I left without purchasing the personal item I had chosen because it happened again. I have been to many REI locations across the country (WA, WI, MA, NJ, CO, CA).This makes me not want to shop at this location ever again. I do like REI a lot, that is why it gets 2 stars and not just 1 for poor service. I shop there often and at many locations. This isnt a jab at REI in general, just this store.

Over the year weve dropped a lot of cash at REI. And we keep coming back. Why is that? Service. A lot of stores sell outdoor shoes, for example. We go to REI because at REI we can get the guidance we need to choose the right shoe (and the left shoe!) for the adventures ahead, and the expertise to make sure they fit properly. And they stand behind their products. My son travels and hikes a lot. He basically walked the soles off a pair of boots and went in to REI to replace them. He mentioned to the sales person how long it took him to kill the boots. REI decided that the boots had died too young and replaced them for free. We didnt expect that. High tech gear, old school service. It works for me.

Everyone I encounter at an REI store is always pleasant, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. I got a pair of hiking boots at one REI store recently. They felt great when I bought them, but after Id worn them around the house for a few hours, I noticed a place where they were rubbing on my ankles. Because I was going to be in Durham for an appointment, I decided to take the boots back to the Durham REI store (not where Id originally purchased them). They took them back, no questions asked. I returned them for a different pair (which I absolutely love), aided by an extremely helpful and personable young man in the shoe department. I will be back again and again. Love me some REI.

Terrible customer service! Didnt give me 2 items I bought but then didnt want to give them to me since no security cameras to prove. Also, charged my credit card for online order after saying they wouldnt! Order was then paid (usually in store) online to void charge from credit card. Were supposed to arrive by Friday, I get to store: delivery delayed! I then asked if they could ship them to me but was told no since I chose send to store which was only to not have to pay until I go to store to pick up, but got charged, and now have to pay additional $10.99 to send it to my apartment. Very poor customer service for such an expensive store. Extremely disappointed

Their garage sale is definitely not as big as some of the others in the area (or so it seems to me) The last time I went her was a year ago though, they may have changed it since then. Everyone has always been very friendly and helpful with lots of advice and expertise. I definitely recommend becoming an REI member for their amazing return policy. I tried out a fitbit alta and just did not like it versus the charge hr and they took it back no problem.

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Went in shortly before closing and was never rushed and everyone was willing to answer all my questions and even recommened when cheaper or more appropriate options might be found online. Joined the co-op when i checked out because of the fantastic service and because i learned they make substantial grants to local outdoors/environment efforts. I will definitely make this my primary stop for all things outdoors.

If you need outdoor, camping, or bike gear this is a great place to go. The gear is vetted by staff so its hard to go wrong. The staff have a lot of experience and will help you find thing that will serve you well. My recent purchases: a web belt, Smartwool Socks, a Columbia hat for the sun, bike gloves, and a Mirrycle bike bell. Their reusable shopping bag is one of the best I have seen: sturdy with handles that work as a shoulder strap too.

This is my favorite REI out of all the ones in the Triangle. You can always get a parking space and there rarely ever a line. You can get your bike in and serviced the same day most of the time. The staff are friendly, helpful and talkative. Its hard not to buy something when youre here :-)

The employees that work here are always friendly and are willing to help out with every question you may have. One of the bike shop guys even gave me a couple free Presta valve tops that they had lying around simply because I asked if I could buy some.

Great service, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Prices are a touch high, but they have damn near everything under one roof. Nothing in the way of whitewater paddle gear, but that seems to be fading in the community.

Staff in shoes were very knowledgeable about the different brands which is a rarity these days. Also had excellent customer service and very helpful. Ive gone several times and the service has always been top-notch.

The service was top notch, friendly and knowledgeable. They took care of me right away and had all my camping supplies so I was ready to go on time. I wish other retail stores were this accommodating. Thanks.

Big store with helpful staff, but no price matching and the prices arent competitive with online retailers. Its certainly a great place to try out and find things, but youll pay ~40% more compared with Amazon.

Store, and store staff, are first rate. Excellent personal service. Parking can be a little tight, but searching around Babys R Us you should be able to find a slot and take a little walk.

What is not to like about REI? They have good stuff and the prices are fine. That sure can get really busy so if you want some lengthy help/advice about gear go during an off time.

Its a smaller REI, bit the staff was exceptionally friendly. I sat meditating in a camp chair before buying something, and the employees encouraged me to come back!

Just got all the climbing gear I needed with awesome customer service. Its comforting to have sales help from someone who actually climbs. Best REI in NC hands down

This is such a great place for outdoor goods. Sometimes not many vegan options, but generally good quality stuff. Employees are always super helpful and nice.
