Wow, I expected professionalism and quality from REI. My experience with them has been truly awful. First I take my bike in for a Tune and because I have a hole in my tire. The bike shop technician quoted me $8.50 to repair the tire and $75 for the tune. I come back to get my bike the next day to find that without my permission they made additional repairs on my bike with parts and charged me for them. Also, the bike tire change was $20 because of "labor" that they failed to mention in my quote. However, Im a reasonable guy. They fixed issues with the bike, that needed to be repaired anyway. So I payed $110 after being quoted less than 85$. I get on my bike for a ride that night and 5 miles in the tire pops, from the exact same hole; where they failed to remove the piece of glass. So I take it in today expecting professional customer service and care to their member. Instead they say that it isnt their fault. I brought the tire in because it had a hole in it. They claimed that their was simply no way that they could have missed it; when it is the exact whole that I paid them to fix. I rode the bike for less than hour before the repair failed. After this I asked if they could fix the bike tire for me. And they attempted to charge me $45 dollars to fix the tire again. Very dissatisfied with the disrespectful employees who could not accept responsibility for a bad repair and fix it. Im a 17 year old and when I go into work, the customer is always right and I treat them with respect. I would at least expect as much out of this company. You do not get what you pay for, I will never be using REI again after this terrible customer service.

Although we did not make a purchase today at REI, we had a helpful customer service experience today which deserves positive comment. My sister was in search of some Birkenstocks, the stiffness necessary to support her recently broken toe in our expedition to the beach today (making on line purchasing or transferring items from another store not useful). Sadly, they had a shortage of pairs in stock, none of which were her size. The salesperson my sister was working with helpfully let us know that apparently there is a Birks shortage right now, and recommended calling ahead to stores to make sure they were available. This turned out to be fruitful advice, as it actually took multiple calls to multiple store chains and locations and a half hour drive out of our way to obtain a pair. Many thanks to this person for their helpful tip! They saved us considerable driving around time in our search. Although we did. It buy anything at REI today, this positive customer service experience makes us more likely to frequent their store in the future.

Let me preface with the fact that I love REI and I have been shopping with this store since they had their old location in crossroads but the only reason I continue to go to this location is that I am a member, it is the location closest to me and I stand behind the company as a whole. Just about every time I go I have to know exactly what I am looking for because 9 times out of 10 I know I wont get help. It is too bad because it really didnt used to be like that. Today I had employees have an awesome conversation next to me but ignore me completely, when I chimed in to make a segue into asking for help they were straight up rude and walked off. For great selection and range of gear go here as long as you have a good idea of what you want. If you need any help though, hit up North Hills, Durham or Greensboro.

Im writing this review based on the experience with the garage sale on Jan 2nd 2016. Friend and I found the SAME guide book for the Appalachian Trail in the same area at the garage sale, one had a tag showing the price at .83 cents while the other was missing a tag. Both books were in the same condition so we assumed we could both get one at the same price. When we went to the register the cashier took the tag from the first book and says it belonged to the second book and tried to charge us $4.78 for the first book. These were the SAME books in the SAME condition and wanted to sell one for .83 cents and another for $4.78... thats ridiculous. Ive always loved this store and they have a great return policy, but that was bad customer service by REI.

I have never written a google review before but thats how bad this place was.Horrible customer service aside I literally had to tell them more then 5 times that I had no interest in an REI membership....like dude, no means no. The product I bought said it could hold up to 115 psi. I put 110 in it and it popped. When I took it back they said I should never have put more then 90 in it and it was operator error so they couldnt give me a new one.Not only that but this dude kept trying to explain to me how this membership would save me money.... Im not stupid...I did the math and explained to him how it would actually cost me 5 bucks more. This didnt slow him down in the least. I wont be going back here and wouldnt advise anyone else to either.

Great staff! We bought our (first) canoe from this store this past week and had a great experience from start to finish. We got the canoe recommendation from a friend and ordered online. Before our item arrived we went to the store to get sized for paddles. Tony helped us and was fantastic. When our canoe came in he taught us how to load and secure our canoe safely and made sure we had the right equipment. Tony is great and I would recommend this store to anyone looking for experienced staff. Looking forward to our future REI purchases!!

I travel a lot for work and always carry a Camelbak Chute with me. With that said, I have bought 5 this year because I tend to leave them in airports. They always have it in stock. REI changes the appearance and layout of their facility about 1 or 2 a year, which I like because I dont see the same stuff every time. The associates are really friendly and extremely knowledgeable, even the associates that do not work on the floor know where product is located.

Great people who work there. they know there stuff and live their job. of the 3 people I talked to about hiking gear, all were avid hikers and at least 2 had thru hiked the AT,one was a triple crowner..i had a hard day at work and came out of the stores feeling refreshed from the great conversation. All took their time to talk to me about the products and compared brands even telling the reason they did not like the rei brand of an item.thats honesty.

Great outdoor speciality store with a wide selection for your active lifestyle. Very helpful sales woman who assisted me with bike racks. Surprised by their variety sports nutrition. Great apparel selection. Big selection of Smartwool socks; my favorite year round, and Smartwool apparel which is hard to find. Love the companys values and being closed on Black Friday for #OptOutside. They get things like family time are more important than sells.
