I have done a fair amount of business with Gander Mountain in store, and online, and will again. Ive had a generally positive experience. But lets face it: any time Ive been in there, the place is crazy busy, and there is only so much a handfull of guys working a department that big can do. Sure, a couple of the clerks are a little high-handed, but so are most gun guys anywhere. Think of all the tedious questions they have to answer from people just, Im sorry to say it, wasting their time. Remember, we are dealing with lethal weapons here, not socks. Ive been in the store when a yahoo has dropped a 1,500.00 shotgun just "inspecting" it. If you know what youre looking for, know what youre doing, and TAKE A NUMBER, youll be fine. But above all remember: there are no quick legal firearms transactions. Expect to spend at least 45 to minutes from choice, to paper work, to cash and carry. I hope this helps others.

The firearms staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The store carries a wide variety of outdoor items. Not a fan of their return policy on weapons. I am new at shooting, and purchased a gun that isnt exactly right for me. I had only fired the weapon twice, but the store would only take it back as used, at about half what I paid for it. My intention was to swap it for a different weapon. With something as important as a firearm purchase, and as critical as it is to be able to shoot it well, you should be able to fire the thing before your purchase is etched in stone. There is only so much you can tell, at least for me, by simply holding the unloaded weapon in your hand and pulling the trigger. Epic fail, Gander Mtn. My next firearm purchase will be elsewhere.

Do NOT buy ammo from Gander Mtn. They are over charging big time on 5.56/ .223 ammunition. They are selling 1,000rd boxes of Federal .223 for $499.99. Thats 50 cents per round! The standard market price for a 1,000rd box of Federal .223 is approximately $350.00. Additionally, they are selling 5.56 Federal Lake City M855 Green tip, 150rd box for $80. Way, way, way overpriced. Check cheaper than dirt dot com, midway, ammotogo, bite the bullet dot com. Virtually any online retailer sells this ammunition for a much, much lower price. Lastly, Gander, you are under staffed. There was one employee at the from check out counter, today..a Sunday- one of the busiest retail days of the week. Your wanton price gouging, and lack of proper customer support is UNACCEPTABLE.

I usually have trouble getting help at the back counter. Im satisfied with the help after I finally get it. This happens even when their is hardly anyone in the store. Many times I think, let me run up here to Gander Mountain-"The mans toy store", but then I remember, what a hassle it can be if I end up needing some help, so I dont go. If their are others like me that feel this way, I dont think Gander will stay in business very much longer. Its a shame to let a place go out of business that could have made a few key changes with customer service to make their customers happy. I want to want to go to Gander. Please make some changes so you will stay in business Gander.

Having recently gotten our purchase permits my husband and I were looking to buy a handgun. We first went to Field and Stream to look at their selection and ask some questions. All of the guys we encountered in firearms there extremely rude and if you asked any questions they acted like your were just stupid. I told my husband we needed to go to Gander Mountain instead. Everyone there was nice and extremely helpful and did not mind answering any questions. Since then we have purchased 2 handguns and I am going this week to get my compound bow. So a big thank you to Joe, Bernardo, Thomas, Stewart, Lance and all the guys back in firearms. You guys are awesome!!!

I went in to take a look at some pistols. Sure, it took a little time for someone to get to me, but there were several people there before me. When someone came to help me, he was very helpful and polite. ...plus patient, since this was my first time actually going to window shop for pistols, and wasnt sure what I was allowed to do as I examined it. I plan to come back, when Im ready to purchase the pistol. I should mention that their selection of firearms, especially old Eastern Bloc surplus guns, is better than any of the other dealers Ive visited so far. My only disappointment was the lack of ammunition for these guns.

I agree with everyone else here. I wandered around the firearms dept. for almost half an hour and none of the salesmen would come out from behind the counter to help me. When I approached them, they either ran in the back or pretended to be on the phone. I finally found the silicone cloths I was looking for and checked out. I had intended to buy some ammo, too, but their prices were outrageous! I can order ammo online, and even with shipping charges its still cheaper than Gander Mountain.

Cant believe the trash on this review board! I was there on a very busy Monday, they were having a big sale. I had to take a number but i watched many sales before i was served. All i wanted was grip screw for my older Beretta. Several of the guys got involved in looking for that screw and then finding me a few possible resources when they couldnt. I found the staff friendly and helpful and the salesman told me when the 38 Special I waswas looking atfor was going to be on sale.

I had a $10 off "gander bucks" card (that I earned after buying a firearm) with NO expiration. When I purchased the minimum ($50) and got to the register, the clerk said they were no honoring "gander bucks." We used to have signs up and stuff about the coupon," he said. The line was long, so I didnt put up a fuss. Well, that will be my last purchase at Gander Mountain.

This place is massive and if you go you will find what you need. But ask yourself if it is worth the price you will pay. Guns here are so outrageously overpriced that one would only think he was getting a deal if this were the only place he ever looked. Camping gear and fishing gear are alittle better I give them that but boots and clothes. They price like a monopoly

If your gonna buy a gun at gander mountian you better pull up a chair, its gonna take a while. Ive bought 3 guns from here( only because of sales ) and each have taken roughly an hour each to complete. The gun department is severely understaffed, to have as many guns as gander has. Overall it wasnt a very good experience. I would recommend field and stream.

A massive store with a whoooole lot of selection. It is very open which makes it easy to locate the aisles and sections based on the signs that hover over them, like "Camping" or "Fishing". When you go into each individual section, they have subsections, and each has a wide variety to choose from so you arent forced to choose between one brand or another.
