Today was my first and last visit to Park Road Books. This is my first negative review to give on Google, but I want others to know what to expect. I popped in to find a copy of the Oxford American. When I walked in, several employees were standing together gossiping about someones family member. No one greeted me, so I had to find my own way to the periodicals. After looking for a couple of minutes w/out success, I finally approached a bearded fellow who had his back turned to me. I asked him if they had what I wanted, and he said, "No, we dont have that." That was it. I asked if that meant that they dont carry the Oxford American or if they simply were out right now, and he said they were out. He didnt offer to order it for me, let me know when it might be back in stock, or suggest another place in town where I might find it. In an age where bookstores are closing their doors right and left, one would expect the few stores that remain to offer exceptional service. Sadly, that was not my experience here. My wife tells me I can find the Oxford American at B&N, so Ill cross my fingers and hope for a better experience at the big chain store.

I LOVE this store, its my favorite bookshop in Charlotte, a city which has a lot of bookstores. While the selection isnt as varied as a massive chain store like Barnes and Noble, the atmosphere and fantastic staff really make a difference. There are suggestions and recommendations all over the store shelves; "If you liked such and such, try this title." They work hard to promote local authors and have signings. And best of all, the staff are all readers! The staff at places like Borders and B&N are always kind and polite, but they just dont have that knowledge Park Road Books staff members have. I went to pay one day, and the woman working had read some of my choices, and she made recommendations and even gave me a publisher that specializes in my favorite genre to check out. Its the highest quality service you can imagine. Support Park Road Books!

I called about a book I had been looking for all weekend at 5:45pm on Sunday and saw prior to calling that they were closing at 6:00pm. I asked if it was alright if I arrived a few minutes after 6 and was told it would be no problem. When I got there with my dog, the gentleman had kept the store open for me, with the book I called about already at the checkout. On top of that they had treats and biscuits behind the counter for dogs. I always try to shop here when I can for books but after my most recent experience I doubt I will ever step foot in another book store other than Park Road Books.

I have been a devoted customer of Park Road Books for so many years I no longer recall the exact date. Visiting the store was an adventure for my children and grandchildren, and it is still a treat for me to browse among their excellent selection, to get informed advice from the friendly staff, and to relax a while with a volume. The staff makes helpful special orders for me and enhances the quality of my life. I also enjoy the readings of authors and special programs such as the tribute each early spring to Dr. Seuss. Amazing staff who recommends lots of great books for me. The book collection is substantial for children and adults. My family comes here a lot. Sometimes I spend hours at the store reading on the comfy couches. Sherri and Shauna are very knowledgeable about the different genres of books. The atmosphere in the room is very cozy and warm, and the store smells inspiring! Sometimes when I come in the dog greets me.

Great small business with a fantastic selection of books for adults and kids. Purchased a few items for the kids, and picked up their newsletter at the front that included suggested reading for kids. The salesperson asked the ages of my children and kindly highlighted a few of her favorite selections for each age. Very thoughtful and valuable. I love small businesses with personal service.

I just came out of this bookstore and thought this place has some rude people who work here. They dont greet you, they just stare and make you feel like "what are you doing here?". Im better off going to the big bookstores like Barnes and Noble. You would think that a smaller bookstore like this would have a much friendlier atmosphere. Not the case here. Dont support them, theyre RUDE!!

One of the only remaining independent bookstores in the area... Yes, you can get books cheaper online, but you will not get the customer service and the relationship with people who really care about books and readers of all ages. An added bonus is that this is also a stopping place for local, regional and national authors on their book tours.

One of our favorite places in Charlotte. My daughter and I frequent this small, quaint bookshop frequently as we prefer the atmosphere here to the giant booksellers. This is how bookstores should be - crammed full of books and really helpful people who know their inventory.

This is what bookstores used to be like, and should be like. While small, a great local bookstore with staff that know books. Book signings and events are fun to attend, and you can get lots of signed editions to make gifts a bit more special.

The best at what it is! a specialty book store on art architecture photography blah blah blah! if they dont have it they can get it for you. Great place to spend hours and hours on your interest.Even have a nice selection of erotic art books.

Barney & Niblets have more books, but certainly not more depth of stock than PRB. Friendly, willing to go the extra mile, and a fine stock of avid-reader favorites you wont find at the big boys.
