Freaks and Geeks came recommended to us via a friend who had amazing work done there. While we were visiting Asheville, we wanted to get a tattoo so went there. However they were closed because there was a tattoo convention in town. So we went to the tattoo convention, paid $20 each to get in, and went to the Freaks and Geeks table. We were greeted by a woman who would end up giving us the tattoos. Her name is Linnea. She is actually not from Asheville, but lives in Chicago and is associated with Freaks and Geeks, and apparently joins them when there are conventions. If I had known that before getting the tattoo I would have requested someone from the actual studio do our tattoos. Her tattoo that she gave me is messed up. The lines are messy and bled out, it looks like a kid with a crayon did my tattoo. I contacted her and sent her pictures and requested that I be refunded 50% since Im going to have to pay someone else to fix her mistake. She has so far ignored me. Im not remarking on the abilities of the other tattoo artists at Freaks and Geeks. From what Ive seen, whoever did my friends tattoo is very talented and good at what they do. Linnea however is not comparable in the talent department.

When my little sister told me she wanted to get her first tattoo and she wanted me to get the same thing with her I was thrilled. We are really close and I was really honored and excited. Of course my heart fell when my current artist in Waynesville was not available in the 36 hours she had left in Asheville. I called a bunch of people in town and asked for suggestions as time continued to run out we decided to visit a few and make our decision. When we walked into Freaks and Geeks we realized there was really no other choice. Not only is the space fantastic but Galen was an absolute doll and my lil sis and I both love the matching pieces he did. Since it was her first tattoo I was very glad they took as much time as they did to make sure the space was comfortable and clean. All in all my experience at Freaks and Geeks was excellent and it is definitely a shop you should consider whether its your 1st or your 6th piece of artwork. Thanks so much Galen!!!

Wouldnt recommend for out-of-town folks. This studio has a good reputation so I was surprised by their amateurish fumbling of an attempt to schedule a custom tattoo through an extended exchange of e-mails. Over the course of 6 days, their interactions with me shifted from "Im sure that we will have time to tattoo you that weekend." to "[artist] just took a look at the email thread, and I didnt realize that he has another appointment booked this Saturday. So, unfortunately, he wont be able to fit you in this weekend."--sent the Thursday before theoretical Saturday appointment. They were civil and I otherwise have no complaint, but when one is strung along for nearly a week before it becomes clear that custom pieces arent welcome and one has two days to find a quality studio that CAN do the art Freaks and Geeks doesnt care for, one leaves an irate review.

This place is magnificent!!! I came in to modify a small tattoo Id had done 10 years ago, and Hank was happy to oblige. I gave him artistic license, and he did an amazing job, a tattoo Ill love forever :) However, I just assumed they would take credit cards, which they dont (of course I should have thought cash, but its been so long lol) My wallet had been stolen the week before, and though I had a card, I had no PIN number, so I couldnt withdraw cash from anywhere. Hank said he trusted me, no big deal even though I offered to have him hold some valuables (ID, bank cards, iPod4) and he said to get it to him in a few days. These guys are so cool :) P.S. This is the coolest tattoo parlor I have ever seen. THESE GUYS ARE GREAT!!

I received a Zoidberg tattoo from Galen and it is awesome! He actually made it look better than the original image I brought in by doing some amazing shading and giving my piece a very antique, pencil-style look. He also did two tattoos for my buddy the same day and his look great as well. The price was a lot less than I anticipated and Galens a super nice guy. Had we met in a bar or a party I could have easily had a couple beers with the man and just chewed the fat. Im already looking forward to going back because, as we all know, tattoos are addictive. Thanks for a great experience! I highly recommend this studio!

I am big into the tattoo scene and have been to a ton of shops across the country (and overseas). Freaks and Geeks is outstanding. The staff worked with my wife and I from the moment we walked in the door to insure we got EXACTLY what we came for. They even made sure they put us with the right artist based off our tattoo styles. Very friendly staff, and fantastic portfolios. Both of our tattos came out better than we imagined they would. I live in ohio, and we will definately consider returning to asheville (a 7 hour drive!) for another tattoo! A++++!!!

Kris was absolutely phenomenal. The shop has a great vibe and is extremely clean. The music was great...nice to go into a tattoo shop and not hear death metal the entire time. Kris took the time to explain his vision and what would look best which was extremely helpful since I dont know anything about tattooing.. I am beyond happy with my back piece and the colors are exquisitely vivid. Thanks Kris and I will see you soon! (And to not leave out Galen and Tiffany, they were so very sweet and professional. Everyone at Freaks & Geeks is top notch!)

Me and my wife went in to get tattoos to commemorate our first trip to Asheville together. I admit we werent completely set on what to get but we had a general idea. The staff was very short with us if they acknowledged us at all. Our questions were answered but we both did not feel welcome. Just as we were about ready to make a decision one of the tattoo artist said they were closing early once they were done with us. We felt very rushed and ended up not getting a tattoo at all. The experience was very uncomfortable.

Absolutely amazing. This is easily the best tattoo shop in Asheville. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They are all willing to help in any way they can. Very professional. Great prices. And, perhaps most importantly, supremely talented artists. Their portfolios are full of amazing work. If you get work done, you will not be disappointed. My tattoo, though simple, came out so much better than I could have hoped for. If youre looking to get a tattoo in Asheville, Freaks & Geeks is the place!

Definitely the best tattooing experience I have had so far. Drove all the way from Atlanta for my appointment, and Baylen exceeded my expectations by far. Got a gorgeous tattoo and she did it way faster than was estimated. Loved the intimate and chill vibes of the shop and the other people there. Everyone was friendly and made me feel very comfortable, which was cool because I was being tattooed in a sensitive spot and was definitely in some pain. Good music choice too, guys. Will be back soon!
